News / Has there been an influx of Polish people into Germany? [21]

=KingAthelstan]I was wondering if Poles have starting moving to Germany since they lifted immigration restrictions this year?

I am still in Poland.

I am not going to move to Germany. I respect and like Germans but living there would be too big Clockwork Orange for my psyche.

News / Poland Parliament elections in October 2011 [944]

PiS deputy chairman, Z. Ziobro, said today that PSL is a natural coalition partner for the future PIS government. He also added that he expects that PO, after losing the elections, will break into smaller fractions, some of which might join the PiS government.

Very funny.

-gumishu]then there is a question if they can carve up a faction that would desert PO and form a majority for a PiS government (there are a couple of moderate people in PO in terms of PiS-hating) - but yes this is highly unlikely

I hope so. :):):)

History / Do any Poles miss the Communist era? [35]

=pip]Gov't officials and other upper management positions.

As other guys explained, its is rather a false conviction although I suppose that some ex-commie guys who are big shots in finance/business today prefer political power to economic power. So, I can imagine some of them regret the collapse of communism.

But people who truly deplore the fall of the system are these: workers of state farms called PGR.

History / Polish bombers over Berlin in 1939? [19]

=sobieski]I have read a few times about Polish bombers operating over Berlin beginning of Septemer 1939 (PZL.39 £oś). Does someone knows more about this?

Funny that you mention it. I recall it every year when we celebrate the anniversary in September. I saw the original article about it in 1939 newspaper. I remember it claimed that about 30 £oś bombers attacked Berlin.

Of course, it was state propaganda to boost the Polish morale.

Gumishu and others are right.

PS. Here you are:

Funny, the planes were described as fighters! £osie Poznańskie! :):):):

Explanation: the newspaper was considered a tabloid at the time.

Work / The demand for English language learning in Poland is at an all time low [41]

=welshguyinpola]At its peak there were 300 students,

Polish demographic indexes have been going down for years. This year is probably the first one when a number of state school teachers (other subjects than English) have been made redundant due to low intake in their schools. Some state schools in the countryside near Krakow have been closed.

The trend will continue.

UK, Ireland / Grateful Polish photographer stitches up his Welsh hosts [96]

=Des Essientes]Pawain, you should note that the photos you've posted were not all taken in a single night, but over a five year period.

Oh, yes, indeed, I have come across another article:

=Des Essientes]And thanks for posting the thigh signing one twice- it is the most pleasing of the bunch.

Not my merit. Just a pure accident - I used photos from two sites.

Merged: Moral degradation of Western Europe - can Poland avoid the same fate?

In another thread Fuzzywickets said:

=FUZZYWICKETS]the majority of Poland's population right now grew up during communist times, and everyone over the age of about 44 has spent more years in communism than in a democratic society. how can you compare a country full of people like that to people in western europe?

I said this:

=pawian]I prefer to live in Poland than in the West. Poles, though poorer and with communist mental burden, are still better people than Westerners. Less morally corrupt, more traditional, keeping good old values. Although I am pissed off many times by my compatriots, I can`t imagine my life out of Poland.

They look like images you might find in some depressing police dossier.
Here, in vivid detail, is a squalid portrait of binge-drinking Britain. Some of the more incapacitated specimens are in mid-vomit. A few have simply passed out.

For, in the eyes of the experts and professionals gathered at the International Festival of Photojournalism in the French city of Perpignan, this portfolio of work -entitled Cardiff After Dark -was a beautifully crafted and realistic portrait of life in modern Britain.

The next time we scoff at, say, the chauvinism of the French or the hysterics of the Italians, it is worth remembering the sort of stereotypes which are applied to Britain.

Polish photographer Maciej Dakowicz, 34, has been capturing nocturnal scenes in Cardiff - where he was previously a student - for the past five years. The results speak for themselves.

Dakowicz admits that he would be unable to produce images like this in his home town of Bialystok in Poland. People there just don't demean themselves like that. But, in Cardiff, he was spoiled for choice. For all that, he remains fond of the Welsh capital. 'Welsh people are very friendly and open,' he says. 'The atmosphere is very cheerful and everyone is having a good time.' And so they are - if your idea of having a good time is passing out in a pool of vomit.

'The pictures tell stories of drinking, of love, of violence, of lots of things,' he insists. Around 50 of these images were presented at the prestigious festival on a giant screen. The critics lapped them up.

The nation which was once regarded as a buttoned-up bunch of repressives in bowler hats is now a land of incontinent alcoholics.
Spiffing, eh?

The past? (Jelcz no longer exist, right?)
If you mean the city - no idea.

From Kraków? Not Solaris as they are from Poznań

from Jelcz

there were some buses still produced in Jelcz in a section of the former factory just a couple of years ago - I am not sure if it is still true -

Nope, everybody.

That bus was produced in 1970s on a French licence of Berliet factory. In late 1970s and early 1980s it was the main means of public bus transport. The Polish government was critisized for choosing them because they were too delicate for Polish conditions as roads and crowds of passengers contributed to damaged chassis. Also, engines and transmissions caused a lot of problems. The buses weren`t room enough, either.

pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jelcz_PR100

=pawian]That bus was produced in 1970s on a French licence of Berliet factory.

Despite technical problems, it was a very modern construction at the time.

The bus was chosen by Poland because the French manufacterer was controlled by communist trade unions.

Yes! We spent there a few days in July.

What is the make of this city bus and what is the main story about it?

News / Poland Parliament elections in October 2011 [944]

That is against all the recent polls which regularly show SLD support at 10-12%.

Prediction : The SLD will play kingmakers, and will choose to support PO on a "confidence and supply" basis.

Hey, come on. It is unfair! I didn`t announce the future coalition prediction game yet!! :):):):):)

as anyone seen them? If you can get hold of these clips then please to post them.

Good post.

I was thinking of showing a few of them:

PO female karate candidate: Kinga Więzowska.

We need tough people like Kinga to fight PiS hordes effectively.

PS. She is pretty, too. Kaczyński has no chance.

=wielki pan]The current IMF forcast for the EU countries for 2011/12 is not good news for Poland.

=wielki pan]Please refer to the IMF home page for forcast.

Silly of you to leave it to members.

=wielki pan]Can I ask for comments from people who may be effected ie people in business/people buying and selling homes and of course people working in private companies who may need to down size.

News / Multi-culti (in Poland) -- roadmap to disaster? [344]

This is Warsaw in 50 years time....

Nope. Polish traditional society will make Arabs and other immigrants adopt Polish culture. I see it now in my kids` schools and kindergartens. E.g., immigrants` children go to religion classes and have First Holy communion together with Poles.

I believe in the strength of Polish culture.

don't be silly

Hey, that is my licentia poetica!

News / Let us save Poland. Suggestions [40]

=Crow]Let us save Poland

Please, no. I don`t want to be saved.

I want things to stay as they are.

I love my country, I don`t want it to be saved. We suffered enough in the past. More than other nations. Can`t we have a little peace and quiet for a while? Say, one century?

=gumishu]the animal in the girl's hands must a be some kind of mink or ferret

Yes, of course. It is a mixture of feret and European polecat.

=Des Essientes]Not royal coats, but rather royal mantles were made of ermine. Mantles have no sleeves and they cover only the shoulders.

Yes, of course. Actually, not. It was a donkey and they were amazed how dusty the animal was - upon touching it, a cloud of dust rose into the air.

What is my son doing?
