News / "We will not hesitate to shoot Kaczyński dead" - KOD Facebook page [164]

he's gone on yet another classic Jarosław rant today that will just annoy people even further.

Perhaps hoping to deflect from his minions hacking the Facebook page of a grass roots activist but more likely due to the embarrassment to him caused by yesterday's massively popular demonstration and the poor showing by his ridiculous counter-demonstration today.

I wonder if many will show up for the vigil by his house.

How long before Ironside brings out the PiS line that we were all paid to be there? :D

Someone actually did suggest here that participants were paid - must have been a pretty huge bill!

They're coming out with every excuse, aren't they?

News / New Poland's Government breaks promise to increase defense spending [16]

Governemnt income has of course increased, so there nothing but the stark fact that they CHOOSE to cut defense spending in the face of the biggest threat to Poland since

Spot on, and a sign of their sheer incompetence more than treason.

Nobody came over whom? Jaro?

Unless tomorrow is moherowe berety mainly, it will basically attract the sort of pseudopatrioci who like to throw their toys out of the pram, not that many will come.

Isn't the other thread a better place to discuss your sulk about today's success?

News / Demonstrations in Poland in defence of democracy. [2554]

Anyone else was there?

Just at the end (it was that lunch today) and it all looked amazing.

Funny to see the usual suspects licking their wounds and trying (but failing) to snipe bitterly. Every word they say is so utterly predictable and banal.

I just watched an interview with a 97 year-old who attended (lots of older people there) who was talking about the last time she came out on the streets to support democracy and how she doesn't want to see something eroded that she long fought for.

There certainly may be early elections depending on how things go over the next year, however the thousands of people who came out today are not (yet) calling for that. Have you seen any of the TV coverage? It's impressive.

It really looks like Jaro doesn't have a Plan B at all...

News / Poland to end state funding for IVF treatment [102]

Spot on, Chemikiem.

Medical treatment is a basic and yes, IVF should be funded. It isn't about the money here - it's entirely to do with religious objections to IVF.

Do they want people to have kids or don't they.

Likely PO members, majority of them.

Normal people, I suspect few are members of anything and you'd need to see a pretty bizarre photo to include 50,000+ people.

It was an amazing turnout and a great day for democracy in Poland.

50,000+ That earlier number was estimated early in the day before most people turned up. There were so many people arriving that it even delayed the start.

One in the eye for the Kaczynski gang who must be licking their wounds somewhere, and interesting to see what will happen with his moherowe berety and pseudopatrioci tomorrow.

News / Demonstrations in Poland in defence of democracy. [2554]

All in all, today was a great success and definite the beginning of something. This covered the situation well:

Duda swore in the PiS-backed judges in a hasty late-night ceremony. Legal experts have condemned Duda's handling of the saga, accusing the president -- a trained lawyer -- of violating the constitution.
"My freedom and everybody else's freedom is in danger," said Bartosz Kaminski, a man in his forties.
"Communism fell 26 years ago and we thought we would be free ... we have to fight again," he said.
The march was called by a spontaneous civic movement called the Committee for the Defence of Democracy and was attended by the leaders of opposition parties from all hues of the political spectrum.

Absolutely beautifu

Isn't it. I just saw the very end of it (I had something on today which wouldn't have been appropriate to cancel) but it went peacefully and was dignified - such a contrast to the pseudopatrioci with their flares and masks. We saw quite a few families making their way home.

Don't forget that a lot of people are expected at the candlelit vigil in Zoliborz tomorrow evening.

ex-pat bars

As far as I know there's only one and I don't go there. In any case, I doubt the 50,000+ Poles who came out on the streets to support democracy would fit inside.

Here's a link to the vigil tomorrow evening outside Jaro's house. Just a few minutes' walk from Metro Wilsona and the gathering has official permission.

From a very conservative source, here's what the Daily Telegraph had to say about the demonstration in Warsaw.

Thousands of Poles took part in demonstrations across Poland on Saturday as the country wrestles with its worst constitutional crisis since the fall of communism.

Later on in the article they're scathing about Jaro, which is only fair. I wonder how many will turn up for the silent protest planned outside his house tomorrow.

They had 100 day

100 days in which they've made every political mistake they possibly could - less than 100 even, which is sheer comedy. Now it's rebounded on them, they're terrified. Now it's the end of the beginning. Soon it will be the beginning of the end.

BTW R U 1 2?
