News / New cross war in Warsaw [530]

The whole label of Catholic, for example.

Frd, I'm denying myself? Well, along with prayer, penitence and almsgiving, self-denial is one of the 4 main points of Lent. It's a Catholic thing ;) ;)

He didn't lead Poland down the IMF path, Zed. Belka has.

I did a class on Lent, Good Friday and other Christian celebrations the other day. I began to see that labels are attached without a real understanding of what's involved. How can so many people do this?

My wife doesn't understand you either, frd. Is she less Polish than you?

It is largely about politics and Kommie being paranoid. I told you that you should marginalise RM and PiS (their radicals). I don't support either, FAR from it.

The cross is there as a symbol, I keep saying that. Tusk doesn't want it there but many feel that it is fitting. It's not black and white, frd. Different levels are at play here.

It is all about Lech and less about the others. What does wealth have to do with it?

Geez, open your eyes! TVN want to focus in on this row and Lech is at the centre of it. When was the last time you heard of the capable banker, Sławomir Skrzypek, being mentioned on tv? Szczygło? Walentinowicz? Natali-Świat? Choose your name! Lech was the figurehead of Poland and you can't deny that. The cross is about him and Tusk/Kommie know this all too well.

Typical Pole, pretending sth is deeper than it is. Enlighten me then as, according to many Poles, I see it very well. Keep it simple, man.

Zeti, when you have competing claims or concerns, who do you go with? Do you feel that Tusk and Kommie have the right to rule on this matter, should it go to a referendum (consonant with democratic practice) or should the highest court rule on it? What do you think?

No, she merely sees it as an expression of religious conviction as he had. The funeral was about political figures gathering and passing on their condolences. One is about his public life but we should focus on the private man, one aspect of which was his Catholic beliefs.

You were discussing possession and I said that that isn't a road you want to go down. To deny the placing of a cross there is petty. The President and many others died. Prominent people who were almost all Catholics, I believe. Now, I also believe that we should keep religion separate when it comes to direct politics but this was about human beings losing their lives. It's about humanity!

Hey, it is Poland itself that is focussing primarily on Lech and not the others.

Zeti, my wife is not religious either but she defends the right for that cross to be there. You should know not to get into territory debates. Poland would have to hand back a lot of land to Germany if you went down that road. The cross is a symbol of Catholicism here and Lech was a Catholic outwith politics. Maybe a statue will pop up eventually but, for now, he is being honoured by a cross. Is it really so hard to accept? Maybe it will help those sticker labellers to actually practise what they preach and raise the level from 60% to 95% which is what it is said to be.

I don't get your point, noreen. If anything, you are backing me up. If crosses can be put in classrooms and also at the side of the roads for road casualties, they can DEFINITELY be put in a strategic place for an ex-President of the country. There are plenty of other crosses for churches. What, St Anne's has somehow run short? ;) ;)

BB is spot on! Why create conflict? Why? Because it's the Polish way and foreigners will lambast you for it. Be reviled as you look like a bunch of squabbling children.

So what changed in the 9-year interim period, BB? They had a recent debate in France over niqabs and burkas. They are really turning up the heat. I wish the German government would listen to Andreas Von Bulow. He is a great guy IMHO.

The cross war in Warsaw is really hammering it home how people can make a fuss out of sth. It's a shambles and that cross should be left alone. Kommie is likely behind it. He wants everyone to think the sun shines out of his arse and that LK needs to be put firmly and squarely behind us.

Life / What is the Cheapest way to send money FROM POLAND to INDIA ? [23]

Also, as I said above, India is a special case. All other countries 'swiftly' expedited the procedure but it takes 3 months to get money to India from the UK. From Poland, perhaps even longer. That's through Nationwide Building Society as they have the CHAPS option.

We should marginalise these radicals. Yes, they too have a voice, but they are wreaking havoc over what is, in essence, much ado about nothing. I alluded to the bigger games at work, see post 257 above.

BB, the German police closed down the Hamburg mosque that was formerly frequented by Atta and his goons. That could easily be seen as controversial when you consider that globalists have an impeccable sense of timing, e.g Clinton bombing Serbia on the day of his impeachment trial. Pure deflection!

They should be taking a clear stand on the cross issue. Creating a fractious schism is hardly in Poland's interest. PO need to pull the finger out and take decisive action on this and not puss*foot around.

News / New cross war in Warsaw [530]

It was on the news after midnight last night (this morning). This really has the potential to create a schism in Polish society. PO do not want Lech to be honoured with a cross, that's how it appears! I really don't see the problem in honouring a Catholic ex-president of Poland with a cross. It's symbolically fitting! Put the mohair berets to the side and enter this debate rationally. The geopolitical influence is at play. Just yesterday, the Hamburg authorities closed the mosque that Atta and his cohorts prayed at. In NYC, they are still toying with the idea of erecting a mosque near Ground Zero. They did this winding up in the Balkans too. Truly sad!!

Love / Possibility of Marriage with a Polish lady [96]

Well, shekofte, please fill out the 100-point questionnaire and then stand in line. Thanks! Your appearance will be very much taken under consideration and please submit your bank details forthwith. These are prerequisites for the next stage. The preliminaries are very thorough here in Poland.

News / Poland sends firefighters to help Russia [67]

That was a good decision but rychlik has a point in that Putin has to put more on the table. He cannot forever plead territorial jurisdiction as Poland has a greater interest factor in a true outcome. International relations has and will always operate under the maxim, 'you scratch my back and I'll scratch yours'.

America and Russia need to show it more to Poland.

What's the latest on it? Has Rydzyk stepped in with a cross and some hissing? Is he armed with garlic for all those vampires? What a circus it is!

Food / What's your favorite Polish beer? [870]

No worries, Pibwl. It is a classic and VERY underrated beer, IMHO. It is crisp and could even win awards.

Perła Premium is top notch, as is £omża :)

Ach, Davie, you're setting me up again for jokes I don't wanna tell ;) ;)

The Kashubian wonder is undoubtedly passive. He needs to put a cross on himself as he'll need it in the future.

Yeah, it doesn't augur well. I like the fact that Poles are striving through identity and have carved out 'Polishness' quite well but not when it's rammed down peoples' throats. Again, the key word in life is balance. LK and JK were too vociferous and DT and BK too passive. Poland has yet to find its golden boy of politics :(

Keep that cross there, I'm off to pray :)

Love / Are Polish Women cold and aloof? [249]

There are some and I've had the pleasure of meeting them. The problem is that too many are abrupt and, of their own admission, lack manners in some situations. However, there are plenty good ones who make for good company. Even with those, they appear suspicious but you can let that slide.

Yes, they speak their minds openly a fair bit but can then withdraw and say nothing for long periods of time. That approach doesn't work in today's connected world.

They don't always want to be kissed and touched at all. That's the point! In the right moments, all women want some TLC but it's when the time is right.

You mean a Scotsman sticks to whisky? ;) ;) Scotch is whisky :)

Anyway, the thread is about sth different. Making a meaningful connection can be harder here.
