News / New cross war in Warsaw [530]

As I said to Zeti in a PM, it is a child to be and we should protect it. That's just biological process and, though it doesn't have personhood (a legal construct) at conception, it needs to be guided to that stage. We can't just skip to the 23rd week when sentience comes into play. There is a very definite progression and a couple that made a conscious and fully-thought-through decision to have a kid should pay heed to stare decisis.

Oh, yes, the cross. I dislike the fact that all manner of undesirables seeped through the cracks and came out of hibernation. They are not true Christians at all. As said above, they are the Taliban that use religion as an excuse yet DO NOT represent the word of the Gospel.

News / Nigel Farage voice of reason for Poland and EU? [79]

Well, the very appointment of Von Rompuy and the largely inexperienced Ashton go to show that they don't really care for a meritocracy. They care more for getting people that won't rock the boat in. That's why Tusk and Kommie will go down well with them.

Some of them know that the game could be up but they will rigidly cling to their positions for as long as they can.

here he is on Polish tv. The interview is in English with no subtitles.

I think and hope he will enlighten Poles and instill some healthy scepticism. He needs to engender doubt.

News / Nigel Farage voice of reason for Poland and EU? [79]

I'll think three times if you wish but what good would that do? Farage represents one of the last bastions of democracy, a stalwart that will expose the Eurocrats for what they are. When he speaks, he speaks for the broader application of democracy.

Life / Things we enjoyed as kids in Poland [140]

It was used in Sex Mission? Surely not! ;) I remember playing all kinds of good games on it, though. I think the name was Gauntlet. I waited forever in Inverness until I returned to Aberdeen to play it. It was fun :) Daley's Decathlon too

Did you guys have the ZX Spectrum 48? The Commodore 64 was better. An Amiga was for richer people in Scotland.

News / Polish, language of future - Post-apocalyptic [45]

You are speaking Scottish now, Crow ;) ;0

How's your Polish anyway, Crow?

SHT, nah, I've just invested time and effort into learning Polish. I still have a little way to go to be fully comfortable with the grammar.

Nah, not this time :) Violence over such an issue is petty. There doesn't need to be such division in society.

I saw one action where a guy kicked another guy off of a pole. TVN has edited the violence as Kommie wants to paint a calm picture. This is absurd and he shouldn't be allowed to have that done. It's a bit like Israel and their finely selected cuts when they went onto the MM in international waters.

News / Poland sends firefighters to help Russia [67]

It is a definite option :) However, Poland is doing quite ok for itself at the moment.

I wonder what Stadler and Waldorf will do to reward Poland's gesture of sending well-trained firemen to help out.

Crow, Poland doesn't have a chance in hell of superceding English in the foreseeable future. If it did, well, I wouldn't have too much learning to do :)

I wonder if Russia will make a similar gesture to Poland. There has also been an all-day Russian festival here in Poland. It was televised. Showing Katyń was good but sth else must follow IMHO.

For some it can be a perverse pleasure. Sth we will never understand.

Anyway, back to the topic. Have you crossed yourself today, Zeti? ;) ;) I hate the fact that people are profitting from this side show. It's garbage!

To all, Please keep in mind that off topic posts will be removed.
Thank you.

She didn't say that, mafketis. She said that the baby, being a life form (or life to be, more), should be put up for adoption. The rapist would be punished accordingly and the 'mother' wouldn't have to raise an unwanted kid.

Sentience occurs about 22-24 weeks into the pregnancy. It is connected with awareness and receptiveness to pain so you might be interested in it, Zeti.

It's not the baby's fault, that's true. Still, it just depends where you position yourself on the spectrum. Do you think that a life is formed from conception or after it has reached sentience etc etc?

True! They are like a splinter group that thrives on ruthless opportunism. Me? I can take it or leave it. The cross is not offensive there at all but a fitting memorial would be better.

News / New cross war in Warsaw [530]

The case concerned a 14-year old and the Church of England were happy to grant it given the stress she was under and the complete violation of her privacy. She neither wanted nor planned for the baby and that moron from America's far right was not sympathetic to that argument. He saw it in absolute terms that it was a new life, regardless of the feelings of the 'mother'.

The thread might have been deleted by now but there was a lot of hard discussion on it. Search around, it was quite a laugh to see how extreme he was.

I was actually more focussed on the first one, the rape exception. I had a running debate with an American fundamentalist Christian here. Talk about taking an extreme position.

The stress one also appealed to me as it has a central focus in criminal law, known as duress.

The third one obviously didn't hold much weight but I can remember agreeing with it :)

They are generally anti-abortion but will grant it under 3 exceptions, the most salient of which is when the woman is raped. The second is concerned with immense stress and I've forgotten the third ;)

One thing Catholic that I approve of? What? I was just stating the Catholic position on infanticide without stating my opinion on it. I support the position of the Church of England on abortion.

Is he a real Catholic, though? I mean, come on, what Catholic doesn't recognise late-term abortion as infanticide? He converted from Protestantism to Catholicism because of his wife.

Also, I remember him in a Sky News video claiming that he was following the Muslim faith as he found it "interesting". That man must have inner turmoil given what the lives he has cost. He is a war criminal!

Always supported LK? LOL

I'm not an advocate of the Catholic position. I just feel that, as an outsider, leaving the cross there causes no harm as it's like a tribute to LK. I've never been a fan of PiS and their homophobic, Stone-Age agenda. The cross will be switched for sth else anyway.

It was a time when the Catholic faith reached a high point, much like when JPII died. Poles should honour that sentiment.

Britain is not Poland.

Amen to that, Zeti :)

You made a simple mistake. To errr (sic) is human ;)

I don't condone any fanatics and will not be branded as one of them. I just believe that this cross can stay. Do you know how many people crossed themselves around the time of the Smolensk tragedy?

Kondzior is right. Zed just needs more education. Frd, it is BASIC that others suffered when those others died. To say that I can't understand that it not to understand such a basic human trait in compassion. Absurd!

I just can't believe the reactions of some people. Again, the labelling culture. They say I am a RM and PiS fan, ROTFL. I simply believe in the cross as a gesture of humanity to see people through hard times. Jesus suffered for us and that's the point!

You should have sex (f*ck) or you shout f*ck, Zeti? I think you meant the latter :)

It is a matter of national importance so there should be a referendum. That's just my opinion.
