JohnnyReb, apprarently you still don't understand that, as the Bible was written by humans, humans are infallible, at that time, highly ignorant beings. Yep. How right you are! That's why many here at home have turned towards Western Europe for guidance. Doesn't seem to have done much good though, on either side:-)

Let's be clear about one thing; diversity = (third-world) immigration = America's historical love of cheap labor. The US has ALWAYS been a nation of the huddles masses. Thing is from huddling together during the first winter at Valley Forge until today, the masses have gotten just a little bit too huddled. Essentially, we have crony capitalism on steroids, all the bequest of Ronald Reagan, America's Patron Saint of Homelessness and Dislocation.

I could go on, but I think I'll stop. There's much more to say.

My grandfather said "sufganyot", but of course, that's Hebrew and not Yiddish or German. American-style cupcakes I've yet to see in Polish, even Polish-American bakeries. The German word is "Festkrapfen", but then, that too is undoutedly regional as well:-)

Fluency in nearly any language other than one's mother tongue can be and frequently is a major asset. To be honest, most Finns I've met spoke such excellent Swedish (albeit with a Finlandssvensk accent!) I never even bothered with either English or my rudimentary Finnish:-)

Can't believe most Polish universities are as poor as some here are saying! Frankly, I still think it's all a matter of perception; Poland's education is perceived by some as backward, therefore, it "is"LOL

Not a clue, sir! The only Polish university of which I have even the remotest knowledge is Jagiełłoń Uniwersytet in Cracow, and only because of its Polish language program for foreigners sponsored in part through our local Kościuszko Foundation here in New York:-)

Polish is probably more practical for you at present than Latvian. The latter is a minority language. Polish at least has some cache as well as EU status:-)
