News / If Poland were in the Eurozone... [39]

France and Germany, resp. Presidents Mendes-France and Adenauer, back in 1955, were looking forward to a United States of Europe (united, no doubt, by a single currency). Presumably, they wished to include ideally ALL of Europe:-)

Language / The lost literary languages of Poland [54]

Uh-uh!! Always found it a decidedly ugly language, neither fish nor fowl, neither Germanic, nor Slavic, nor Hebraic nor much of anything. To be frank, I felt it a sort of "throw-away" language.

News / Does democratic Poland guarantee it's LGBT citizens respect for human and civil rights? [1169]

JohnnyReb, apprarently you still don't understand that, as the Bible was written by humans, humans are infallible, at that time, highly ignorant beings. The pleasant poetry of the Scriptures is nonetheless forever subject to interpretation! Guess you never studied science, or, don't tell me, you were out that day/month/semester:-)

This is not the place for such discussion, please keep to the topic

Apologies there, mods!

@Johnny Reb, I meant to say "human beings are FALLIBLE.." Just a typo. sorry:-)

Hey, gang!

Let's be clear about one thing; diversity = (third-world) immigration = America's historical love of cheap labor. The US has ALWAYS been a nation of the huddles masses. Thing is from huddling together during the first winter at Valley Forge until today, the masses have gotten just a little bit too huddled. Essentially, we have crony capitalism on steroids, all the bequest of Ronald Reagan, America's Patron Saint of Homelessness and Dislocation.

I could go on, but I think I'll stop. There's much more to say.

News / Dunkin Donuts to come to Poland [46]

Curious as to whether there's an indigenous Polish-based coffee bar chain equivalent to Starbucks. Once more, for whatever reason, it took off like mad in Austria.

Guess the Austrians just wants to see how the other half drinks:-)

You're correct, Jolly!

My grandfather said "sufganyot", but of course, that's Hebrew and not Yiddish or German. American-style cupcakes I've yet to see in Polish, even Polish-American bakeries. The German word is "Festkrapfen", but then, that too is undoutedly regional as well:-)

You guys call 'em "doughnuts" aka "donuts", the Poles call 'em "pączki", the German "Krapfen", all the same damn thing!

I'll take a nice homemade, authentic Polish pączek from one of my favorite Greenpoint bakeries any day of the week compared with a Krispy Kreme:-)

YUCHHHH!!

Study / I got accepted into a university in Gliwice, Poland! [38]

Can't believe most Polish universities are as poor as some here are saying! Frankly, I still think it's all a matter of perception; Poland's education is perceived by some as backward, therefore, it "is"LOL

I'm not yet convinced, people:-)

Not a clue, sir! The only Polish university of which I have even the remotest knowledge is Jagiełłoń Uniwersytet in Cracow, and only because of its Polish language program for foreigners sponsored in part through our local Kościuszko Foundation here in New York:-)

News / Dunkin Donuts to come to Poland [46]

I've not doubt. Pity though that convenience has won out over leisurely enjoyment! Remember well when Starbuck's arrived in Vienna. Even the Viennese were duped into thinking it superior to their time-honored coffee houses:-)
