Food / New Polish Recipe Website - I Love Pierogi [17]

hey, that's a pretty cool site. hope it grows as there aren't many sites in english that are exclusively polish cuisine.

History / Polish aristocrats - would be better off if we had Polish magnate families? [69]

Polish nobility by and large served Poland well and its supposed failiure is nothing but a communist myth, Poland fell from power because of nearly 20 years of constant destructive war it had to endure in XVII century.

that's BS but i know you don't care.. PL was partitioned because of the szlachta.. they weakened poland to the point where the neighbors were able to waltz in and take our country.. otherwise we would have been on the map for 123 years.. putting szlachta on a pedestal is crazy.. grandpa never had much good to say about them and he definitely wasn't a freaking commie.. quite the opposite.

i think that other thread of yours pretty much spells out the issue foreigners have with PL, so fixing those would be the thing to do... although then PL wouldn't be PL.. and I don't know if that's what we want.. foreigners don't have to love PL.. Poles do, however.

Life / What are the things which cause culture shock in Poland? [164]

I've never seen that here, isn't that an Italian thing to do?

not off the chin but one arm crossing through the inside of an elbow while that arm is bent.. can't think of the name for it at the moment..

Why would anybody do that? It's horrible isn't it? You see people at home doing that too and it makes people just look like proper dorks :-)

no, it's soooooo sexy. ;) :D :D

Herrings, like, seriously who had the idea to pickle a fish, ....

jooz

one thing I cannot get my head around is the formal language and not being able to swear in front of older people, for me that's like a submission by treating people differently just because they're older than me and it doesn't float my boat.

it's called respect

Also Poles dont really give each other the finger, or the V, which'd be fairly common at home too.

how about the bent arm thing?

also this thing of white socks with shorts that ***** just nasty looking,

but not the socks with sandals? that's normal? lol

History / Polish aristocrats - would be better off if we had Polish magnate families? [69]

No.. They just had 2 different point of view.

and that was the problem right there.. one set wanted russian influence.. adn the others wanted more power for themselves.. either way, it wasn't good for PL in the end, was it now.. thus, PL is better off without them.

Food / pasztet recipe? [12]

Since we have more polish ladies on the forum, let's bump this and see if anyone has any new ideas. i did find this recipe that kind of approximates what i am looking for (it is on Polish). it looks what a pasztet made in Poland should look like.

You mean when they funded Polands schools and universities or when they raised armies to defend her?

when they sold it to the partitioners.. when they "sold" pl to the commies..

And so are you for that matter, Poland without its inteligentsia (which is not neccesarily the same as nobility) is a headless chicken.

intelligentsia is a completely different matter..
