Work / About Work permit for Student Visa in Poland [28]

How many of such messages are we to get???? Who in the world told them that there "are" jobs in Poland for ... Nepalese or Indian "students"????? Of course, they only want to enter EU through Poland and into Germany and so forth.

News / Poland - Third World Country?? [300]

The answer to question is that Poland is closer to a 3rd world country than to a "1st" world country as not financially independent (+ millions of Poles leaving home for bread).

News / Poland - Third World Country?? [300]

Do check figures from European Union ec.europa.eu/budget/mycountry/PL/index_en.cfm#cinfo and it is a fact that Poland receives more aid than any other country.

Everything is Poland is financed by EU and nobody can deny it (metro, new buses and trams, new trains, computers in schools, new equipment in hospitals, roads, highways...).

The problem is that most Poles don't realize where the money comes from and unfortunately Poland does NOTHING in return for the EU.

News / Poland - Third World Country?? [300]

@Wrobelek: don't forget to mention that the money Polish government use to build roads, bridges... comes from western European taxpayers. Poland cannot make it without foreign companies and foreign money. Poland is a developING country.

Life / Would you move back to Canada if you had Canadian PR or remain in Poland (and risk loosing your Canadian PR)? [30]

@Czech Canadian! Bingo! 100% ok with you!:) You know, distance is no issue when money ;) so shopping in Paris if you live and work in Canada no problem ;)

@Poganin: Luxembourg people are ... rude????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Do you speak French and/or their local dialect (Letzebuergesch) to have been able to interact with them? ;). They may be a bit ... abrupt since of Germanic origin but since 28% people living in Luxembourg are from elsewhere, I suppose that locals are very nice and welcoming otherwise foreigners would not settle in Luxembourg, not true??? And yes when the head of a government can marry his or her partner of the same sex with the society's approval, it does mean that said population is most open (and probably this bothers you ;))

Love / Do Polish guys tend to take things slow with regards to sex? [44]

@Dolno: isn't it what ultra religious people claim? In countries like Poland, very few people use contraception (the most common "method" is that of ... temperatures ;) - what they used in Western Europe before 1950), girls are scarred to get pregnant and "decent" guys are scarred to make them pregnant and it is normal that quite a few people raised this way don't feel comfortable with sex.

It is very frequent that you read in PF or we year hear Polish men are not very comfortable with sex.

Of course, I am NOT saying ALL but problems of the kind are not exceptional among Poles and more so than in more liberal societies where people have generally a healhier attitude to sex.

Sorry, if you take it personally ;). It was not my idea ...

Love / Do Polish guys tend to take things slow with regards to sex? [44]

@Dolno: I did NOT say ALL "Poles" ;). It is normal that when people are raised in very religious, very conservative societies, don't receive sex education, sompe people are not comfortable with sex. I have for instance met quite a few teenage girls in Poland (nowadays not in the 17th century) who knew nothing re contraception or re pregnancy.. At the same age, in France (and similar countries), they have had years of sex education in school, parents and media talking about sex normally.

As to myself, although raised in France, I'm of Spanish origin; I was a teenager during Franco (I'm sure you know how Spanish society was at the time) and I can assure you that Spanish girls were (in those days) very ignorant and not as "brave" as French girls raised in a liberal society (although of course less open minded then than it is now).

In conclusion: when people are brought up in non opened societies where they are taught that "sex is dirty", that "sex is only to have babies...", it is to be expected that some people from said societies will have problems with sex ;)

Travel / Behavior of Polish travellers on Planes. [72]

@Traveler: it comforts my staying away from low cost companies ;). I am first of all against the exploitation of passengers and of their staff by low cost companies (cies such as Ryan and Wizzair are famous exploiters). I suppose low cost flights between UK and Poland must be really "something else" so behavior as above is to be expected ;).

As said, I only travel with regular companies and trust me, when taking advantage of their promotions, very often it is not more expensive than with low costs, especially in heavy periods such as Christmas and summer. Not only it is often not more expensive with regular companies but also travelling with them we leave from/arrive at better and more convenient airports, we have better schedules and better services on board.

Love / Do Polish guys tend to take things slow with regards to sex? [44]

@Dimples: sure a lot of (male and female) Poles don't feel very comfortable with sex as per their conservative upbringing in a very religious society but in case of severe "problems", professional help can be necessary... You won't find an answer to your problems in a random forum such as PF.

Good luck!

News / Referendum in Poland about so called refugees. [56]

Do you think that Merkel (= EU) would accept referendum in Poland (and elsewhere)??? If you check EU's history, you'll realize that EU have NEVER accepted results of referenda against EU (French, Dutch and Irish voters have had experience ;)).

Just heard that Sweden will expel some 80,000 migrants but to where???? If back to their countries, it'll be against international laws since obviously refugees cannot be returned to their home countries (logical). So, the said 80,000 migrants shall have to sent to other EU countries because Frau Angela will say so.....

It is getting worse and worse and no solution in sight.

Work / Salary opinion - Warsaw Junior Translation Coordinator for media products [11]

@Dolno: Trust me, at the top of the ladder, they don't see things the way you do. It's sad but it's a rat race. Anyway, the guy is already in Warsaw so he knows that it's very little money. To enjoy life in a city requires a lot of money and Warsaw is no exception, very easy to do nothing and spend (min) 100 ZL within a day... Well, I know some people get by very cheap (I can"t and I don't want to if I'm abroad).

News / PiS to impose blanket retail tax in Poland [291]

+2% on VAT??? Poland has one of the highest rates in EU! For sure, the poor will buy a bit less but honestly, anything new in the sun? In Poland, the poor are dirt poor (I am shocked) whoever is in office so why would it be now different? On Monday, someone fascinated by Petru told me that the poor would be hurt if the 500 ZL kid's allowance was implemented because the poor would use the money to buy wodka... It makes me "laugh" when banksters such as Petru and consorts who are responsible for dirt povety in Poland (and elsewhere) use the poor as hostages. No, Mr. Petru and your clique, if poor families in Poland could get 500 ZL more per month, a lot of Polish kids would be better fed and enjoy some of the pleasures money allows.

Work / Salary opinion - Warsaw Junior Translation Coordinator for media products [11]

@Hailo: Employers pay as per the job to be done and not as per people's needs. If you don't want the 22 offered, no problem for the boss to find someone else who will accept 22. It you say that a lot of people get 18 and you are offered 22, it is "good". In Warsaw, cleaning ladies usually get 20 an hour (and they don't pay tax).

You know, those international companies come to Poland and similar countries only because of cheaper labor.

Do you think it's worth it to slave for peanuts? Besides, taking some sh@@jobs don't help on CV because recruiters think that said persons are desperate and have no ambition. I've been in the corporate world for over 30 years so I know how they think "at the top". For me too, someone accepting peanuts (unless completely desperate, with a family to feed, etc...) shows a lack of ambition and I would not hire them for "decent" jobs.

You post in a public forum so I'm answering but honestly even if I were let's say 25 years old, I would not move abroad to be exploited. By accepting low salaries and poor conditions, you encourage bosses to exploit you! I know that times are rough but let's have some dignity!

Unless you are desperate, don't bother and look for something appropriate in western Europe!

Even if you work 40 hours (how many hours do they guarantee in writing?), it is very low especially after tax, ZUS... After tax and other ZUS..., it'll be some 2,500 ZL (on a 40-hour basis) to "survive" on and no way! Of course, millions of Poles "do" but 1. they know the "system" and 2. they have their families to help them if need. To rent a low standard place in a lousy area, you'll need half of it, and with the rest, you'll have to eat, to pay all the rest + do not forget about emergencies such as dental work, buying medicines, something (for instance your phone or your computer) that needs to be repaired or replaced. Curiously, those in PF giving estimates NEVER include emergencies. Since a foreigners alone in Poland, you'll have to save some money every month in order to face "rainy days" but sorry, on such a low salary, there is no way. Also, no way to take any vacation!

Where are you from?

Work / Information about jobs for Indian students in Poland [286]

so for instance, where? Maybe washing dishes or toilets in an Indian restaurant but let's face it, even in a city like Warsaw, one can count the number of Indian restaurants on one's fingers. At the very most fewer than 1% can get jobs and therefore telling them that they "might" is wrong because they arrive in Poland, cannot work so cannot study and have to return home very frustrated and broke (it costs them money to come to Europe)

Work / Information about jobs for Indian students in Poland [286]

@Jon; if "a few" do, I suppose no more than 0.000000000000005%. Have you personally seen any? I never have and I have lived in Poland for "ages". Of course if need to rely on hypothetical employment in order to study, students should NOT be issued "student's" visas. Students should be expected to have money to study and to live while studying. Do face it, 99.8% of socalled 'Indian students" are economic migrants using Poland to enter EU and sorry, I think it is wrong...

Law / Wife runs off with a child from Poland to England after splitting from her husband. Education of their son. [8]

I understand that lawyers are expensive and that you are not in a great financial shape but instead of posting in a random forum, you could seek help from a social worker where you live or from a legal site (lawyers give free advice on various sites).

Not only nobody in PF is an expert in family law but also we only know what you have written (in order to give you pertinent advice, even a lawyer will need ALL details and also wife's version).

Good luck!

Work / Information about jobs for Indian students in Poland [286]

@Jon: have you ever seen "Indian students" working in Poland???? I never have! Do you think that employers in Poland do hire "Indian students"? Even places like MacDo, KFC, or Biedronka do not..... There is the language factor but not only. Poland is a closed (I've read that only 0.3% of peole living in Poland are from abroad, compared to around 5 to 8% in Western Europe, and up to 28% in Luxembourg) so a not tolerant society and therefore if one looks different, no way to get a job even to clean the toilets. And besides, Polish students have prority, which is common sense and also normal...

To tell "Indian students" that they "may" get jobs in Poland does not help because they have ZERO chances to get anything. Misleading people is wrong.

Life / Would you move back to Canada if you had Canadian PR or remain in Poland (and risk loosing your Canadian PR)? [30]

@Czech: the great advantages of Luxembourg is that it is international (28% are people there are foreigners) and also that while living in Luxembourg, you may have lunch or dinner or do your shopping in France, Belgium and Germany (all 3 countries much cheaper). Yes, salaries are higher but so is the cost of living and that's why people from Luxembourg shop (even for food ;)) in France, Belgium and Germany....

Luxembourg is also in the hear ot Europe so easy to travel to everywhere in Europe.

In my opinion (I have been there, as I'm French, not a long trip ;)) Luxembourg could be a good option in Europe (inspite of the almost non stop rain ;)) but if you risk losing your PR from Canada, I'm not so sure staying in Europe is the best thing for you to do. Once your status is secured in Canada, you may consider moving around...

PS: in Luxembourg, they are also very open minded ;). Their current Prime Minister got married last year (or 2 years ago) to his Belgian boyfriend and NO problem whatsoever in Luxembourg.

News / Demonstrations in Poland in defence of democracy. [2554]

@Borsu: be aware that in countries such as Poland, there is a lot of dirty money ;). Very strange, nobody in Poland speaks about their situation prior to 1989. I trust that a lot of people with very good money and well connected these days were big shots prior to 1989 and stole money from the State in order to open businesses, send their kids to higher education and now said kids are the Polish elite.

Personally, I am not impressed by the rich who made their money too quickly and by "all sorts of means" ;).

Hi! If you have legal problems, don't you think seeking lawyer's help would be more appropriate? Most people in PF don't even live in Poland (many of them have never been to Poland, including alot of teenagers from US Polonia and others with no connections to Poland) and among the few of us living in Poland, no lawyer specialized in family affairs. So, what do you want us to advise you?

My only piece of advice, do spend some money and consult a lawyer! :)

Life / Would you move back to Canada if you had Canadian PR or remain in Poland (and risk loosing your Canadian PR)? [30]

Canada, no doubt! If we just check the number of Poles moving to Canada and the number of Canadians (in particular those having no Polish origin) moving to Poland, we get the anwser in 2 seconds. Risking to lose a PR in a country like Canada does make no sense.

As to Luxemburg, the only advantage is that it is truly international (some 28% of people living there are foreigners, the largest community is from Portugal) but it is so small (OP may feel claustrophobid in tiny Luxembourg) that need to spend half of one's time in neighboring countries since Luxembourg offers not much to see not much to do. To me, maybe the worst thing about Luxembourg is that it rains all the time. (I have read some Luxembourg docs according to which it rains there an average of ... 350 days per year ;)). OP will also need to learn French (I understand she lives in English speaking Canada)....

So Canada over Poland and Canada over Luxembourg.

However, OP will decide, we won't...

Work / Salary of a customer service representative in Krakow [28]

@Molotov: if you have only 2,000 after rent, you'll survive and not live. Yes, a lof of Poles do but 1. they survive and 2. they have their families to help. You'll be so frustrated counting each ZL that you'll be very quickly tired of it. In order to be comfortable, a westerner needs at least some 4 or 5,000 net. You'll realize right away that most goods are western brands with same prices as in western countries. I went shopping this morning to Marks & Spencer but if I had to "live" on 2,000 a month, I guarantee I would not be able to go to better stores and whould have to buy garbage instead.

With your 2,000, what in case of emergencies? What if you get sick and need to buy medicine (easy in Poland to spend 150, 200 ZL at the phamacy)? What about dental problems? A mere filling costs minimum some 250 ZL and in case the dentist recommends a crow because you need one, altogether it'll be minimum 1,000 ZL, so half of your income. What if you need to pay for heating? I know people who pay up to 500 a month during winter. Do you think about all this? You sure do not. You know, there are many more expenses than beer, coca-cola or cigarettes and it is necessary to keep money aside for "rainy days" especially when abroad and alone (I save around 40% of my income every month)

On your income, also forget about vacations!

Yes, it's more living like a monk or a rat. If you think that Poles are not Americanized and not materialistic, you'll have the shock of your life.

Personally I don't care whether you come to Poland and barely survive but since I live in Poland and know how much it costs to live properly, I'm telling you.

If you want to live like a rat, it's your choice! ;)
