News / Polish Independence Day March in Warsaw. Is it going to be the biggest march yet? [1530]

Because it's threatening, aggressive, in your face, and inane.
Simple really. Here to help:) Of course, some people like such parades, but they shouldn't be permitted to break the law with flares, overtly racist banners, and rampant racist chanting. It is against European law. Poland took the money - now she has to abide by Europe's laws.

That is why democratic politicians stay away. They know what will happen to their majorities if they associate with the mob. This march is an imposition, not a march of the people.

I get where you are coming from, but maybe the opinions you hear come from the type of people you choose to mix with.

Absolutely. I had considered that skewing. Damn.

News / Polish Independence Day March in Warsaw. Is it going to be the biggest march yet? [1530]

And I think you are wrong about the November 11th march too

No - I live here. I seem to know more about the situation than you do. After all - we are both British, but I, after 27 years here, am more "Polish" than you Miloslaw,, and hear how people feel. Because I ask them. City folk hate having to move out of the city for the day, just because of the crowds of villagers shipped in for the "celebrations". Of course some, out of patriotism, attend, and try to enjoy the day, but the inane chanting soon drives them home to their family lunch.

That's the message I get every year anyway......

most poles support patriots.

Poles understand patriotism as well as other nations, to whatever degree, and so do I. Polands' recent history (300 years) is of bitter struggle. Any historian will argue though that what is now Germany suffered much more through the Thirty Years War. Germans don't bang on about it today though do they BB? I have a horrible feeling that nationalist Poles will whine about "their" 300 years of pain for aeons to come though - until the sun consumes the earth.

Most Poles hate this putrid nationalism though. You, Dirk, and others don't seem to want to understand the difference between patriotism and nationalism of course, though knowledge speaks and wisdom listens.. Academics have argued the difference between patriotism and nationalism since the 19th century, but from my point of view of the Polish groups of people, one of them is decent and honorary, and the other is self-serving.

My 1000 sample (learners I asked an opinion of, from all walks of life and ages) came out as 80 percent against such nationalist marches.

Is now a very rich man. A self - server, as stated. You can have him, because Britain disowns such scum.

wiadomosci.onet.pl/opinie/gronkiewicz-waltz-o-mozliwym-rozwiazaniu-marszu-niepodleglosci/4qbkw9z

I suppose Waltz is just blowing hot air when she says she will not tolerate a repeat of last years' racism, and there is doubt that the police will actually do anything at all to halt the repeat of last years' disgusting scenes. Poland is full of populists, and nobody actually takes a stand.

The British police would break it up, and be within their legal jurisdiction to do so, but the Polish authorities are bound by the communist past to let this nationalist mob rampage through the capital city and embarrass the nation again.

Such a shame when the whole 3 days could (and should) be a mass of street celebrations aka fun, tented events and exhibitions. Instead we get politics rammed down our throats.

Very nice Spike. It's a pity some of those people don't take the same community spirit into doing something practical, such as picking up all the litter in the fields and forests next to their homes - except they wont do that - for they are the very people who dropped it in the first place.

If there were group action we could really celebrate something. A lesniak tried to fine me for camping in the krajobrazowy last week, until I showed him the three bags of rubbish I'd collected, litter dropped by his village living mushroom collecting "friends".

A little bit of the Independence March "community spirit" directed into real community action would go a long way. Instead - it's all hot air. Nice in parts, I will admit - however, although I'm proud to be British, and sometimes watch town processions go by, I wouldn't turn up for a St Georges' Day parade. Hijacked by UKIP buffoons like Aaron Banks.

Excellent Miloslaw. You could do the same as Dolno. I know I would, in your position. Getting on in years means you would have have time to indulge yourself - grandchildren notwithstanding.

Just going through the Smiths/ Morrissey catalogue, and I have 230 recordings of Herbert von Karajan on Deutsche Gramophon to get through!

Law / Non E U. looking to retire in Poland, seeking permanent resident permit. [21]

I would love all that but am too much of a boring person to ever appreciate it. I had a very spoiled childhood, where my father took me to country hotels and spas, and fancy restaurants. On expenses.

Now I love camping ( Hilleberg tents), listening to my LP collection of 50 years, and walking with the labradors. I wouldn't have the energy or will for the good life that you describe. And I wouldn't have tolerated, or been tolerated by, some of the ******** that you obviously had to lick on your way to such success.

Enjoy:)

I would like us to go together in the Independence March, and it is a matter of responsibility to society.

Duda is a clown to say such a thing. Just as the communist government stated before the May-day processions.
Some things never change!

So I don't see any controversy here.

Full of people who exclusively blame others for Polands' history, and are taking the Monday off - because they are not interested in what they can do for their country....................etc...etc.....

he will probably have his trotters up in Krakow

Duda will bunker down in Jurata more like. If his helicopter comes over Dougpol towers I will get on the roof and offer him the finger.

News / How will BREXIT affect the immigrants in UK and Poland. [1114]

The funny thing is, they complain about 'the immigrants' that they had to run away from

If by "they" you were referring to Asians, Poles etc then you would have a point. This adequately describes the Poles' ironically narrow view of the world more than the British.

They (Poles and Asians) refer to each others' communities in this way. "All those dirty immigrants........."

UK, Ireland / Polish Pilot killed in Leicester Football Club Helicopter Crash [6]

Disgraceful comment. Atch was nice enough take the trouble to pay tribute to someone who she feels a connection to: the woman built a life for herself in Britain, and Atch has done the same here.

And you come out with a low-life comment like that? It speaks volumes for what sort of a person you really are.

British in Poland slagging off Poland are the same as The British people in Britain slagging off Britain.....leftie wasters.....

Again - you haven't been paying into the system here for 27 years. Poles that have been paying into the system in the UK also have a voice. You are one of them. albeit British born, vis a vie British, and we do hear your voice on here - so are you saying I can't have an opinion about the job creation scheme that is ZUS? (Not that you would know anything about the situation - not being really Polish - but looking at the home country through a rosy hue...............)

It's raining cats and dogs here at the moment - pity it's a Sunday, or those ZUS "workers" could get wet on their way to the office for their coffee and cakes.

number of people working in public administration in Poland between 2000 and 2010

Yes, apparently in Ogrodzieniec, that fun town with the castle, half the townspeople work in the ZUS office. Whilst as well you know, in the UK there are a grand total of ONE ZUS offices. Grammatically incorrect I know, but colloquially speaking....

But do please keep up with your agenda of Poland the brave!

Poland should take this opportunity NOT to take holidays on Monday 12th November, further damaging the economy, and also to reflect:

1. The young, especially graduates, are still leaving Poland. And they never, ever, plan to return. My own daughter is one. I'm delighted for her. My pal's 25 year old sister assured me tonight that she is very happy in a post grad job in Paris, where she is paid too much for what she does, working for the government. It is boring work apparently, but wild horses would not drag her back to the low wage economy.

2. After 25 years of year on year growth, it's crunch time. Property prices in prime locations, meaning star cities, are stagnating. Some wise minds speak of a crash. Poland has never experienced negative equity in democracy. It really wouldn't go well.

3. The church messing with politics more than ever before since communism. Ask the young. They don't like it one little bit. See 1.
4. New tax laws removing people's incentives to work.
5. Encouraging laziness, as in state sponsored long weekends/cancelled days, costs the country and YOU.
6. Add your own theories here.

Instead of patting itself on the ******* back for 100 years of independence, Poland should be getting back to ******* work - instead of this inane PIS conceit. Very likely costly times ahead for many. Your own fault for backing this government. Please don't say you didn't see it coming.

Mmmm. A lot of such figures will court controversy. FWIW My uncle Frank actually met G. Anders in the 1950s. He got to speak to him personally. No, really. I remember him discussing the night with a colleague of my dads - Andriej Biedawski, ex Polish air force, aka "uncle" Dawski from Plock. Frank and his 8th Army brigade were all machine gunned in Africa, his troop in the lower legs, and he was at some sort of club in Nottingham and supposedly met Anders and others. I always remembered the stories that night because they made clear to me that war was not about Airfix model soldiers and BSA airguns. Later it was considered a family joke that luckily Jerry didn't know how to set his sights properly.

I was 13 when said uncle died and my mum and family have all passed so I can't ask what went on. Sifting through family photos, just in case!

So the Sejm have just passed the emergency legislation for the Monday 12th. They are sick in the head. This is costing me money and costing the country countless millions.

Total wankers, and the worst of the laughing stock. Well done you scummers.

You don't know who I am, what I do for a living and what I add to the wealth of a nation

From your supercilious attitude, we could take an educated guess. I reckon Ironside is bang on the money.

an insult to Poles who were not able to return home until recently!!!!

Until recently/ You mean in May of 1989? I wouldn't call that recent. People could have returned to build the Polish dream any day since that date. These patriots who profess to love their mother country so deeply seem to prefer Chicago.

All 2 million of them.

Thats the crucial thing

If it's all so much roses, why aren't you living here? As cmf suggests, these kind of hooligan elements only bring Poland into disrepute, and they will have a free day off from their ZUS office desk jobs to get over it, while the rest of us are paying for them to so do. You carry on earning your London salary, whatever it is, but keep your nose out of our affairs.

In the good old days the citizenry would march to Frankensteins' castle and burn it to the ground. They have created a monster. And all monsters are ugly by definition.

an extra holiday on 12th

What actually is the purpose of this free Monday anyway? Everybody will have done their celebrating on the Friday night, Saturday and the Sunday.....so Monday will be spent with heads under the cold water tap.

It's just another jolly for those who have appointed themselves as the entitled classes. They can do as they please of course but I shall be nose to the grindstone to pay the costs of maintaining Dougpol Towers, seeing as I don't qualify for any of this governments' poxy bribes.

Work / Men in child care (creches/nurseries/kindergartens) in Poland [17]

I think Doug was talking more that somehow priests were ok to spend time with kids

Well yes. In the days before vetting, my dad would pop down to have a ganders at the church set-up and decide for himself. So off I went to Sunday school at the C of E. Hated it of course - still can't hold a note:)

a MINORITY of Poles,

Really? Every single Independence day march slips into such an outmoded language. It's even the same in Gdansk - an anti PIS stronghold in the past. Any visitor or private investor could be turned away by such language.

And only language or posturing it is. When people come here they realise that it is only a voice - a position of pride. And that pride is great, and right. But personal pride and values and politics do not mix, and all this is so archaic. Now everything is coming to the real crux of the matter, and the old cliche.

Does Poland want to be in Central Europe, or Eastern Europe? With PIS you get the latter. And socialism in a poor country that cannot afford to subsidise the undeserving does not work.

If celebrating freedom an independence sounds "confrontational" to you then you're already lost my friend

Spike - you sound very reasonable to me, and I love your country too. But flags and mass hysteria and chants, and the mob, just do not do it for me.

It's a shame that Poland didn't have such mobs in the 1980s - or rather - they did - but too few dared to join the shipyards and the miners. The result is that Walesa and his associates are ridiculed in modern day Poland even though they were so brave.

You really couldn't make it up.
