Real Estate / Any Feed back on PKG real estate Krakow? the site has a red /bad mark from WEB of Trust [4]

I was hoping this was just an exception, too bad it had to be me. Anyway, you were much bigger client for them than me, as I was looking to rent one apartment, their earning on me would be about 2000 PLN, on you - much more. So I reckon they would answer your emails even a 3 a.m. :). Anyway it still shouldn't happen. Maybe this agent wasn't very good, but their manager did not give me the best impression either. Too bad, still, they do have good offers, and it is not like I would never use their service again. I notice a general tendency (no matter the country) that people do not respond emails and phones often, even if you are a client...

Life / Why Poland is "surprised" by winter and snow every year? [192]

From what I heard, technically there's no use in ploughing the snowed roads unles a certain thickness cover forms, 5 cm if I'm correct. So it is not about surprising but technical aspects usually, but people don't know that.

Life / INVISIBLE MAN in shops and offices in Poland? [70]

Try this combination:

you look deep inside decolte

of

babcia fuj

and you might get the best serving ever.

Pedestrians not stepping aside just even an inch are really plague in Poland. As if they own the pavement. And when you bump their shoulder because you have no space then they see you.

Life / Why Poland is "surprised" by winter and snow every year? [192]

Well, exactly! You can't make the snow disapear by a snap of finger. I'm sick and tired of people who complain on this, this is a ****** climate and what can you do? Remove snow and ice asap and still it'll be dangerous and slipery so we must watch out. Whining about it gives nothing good, Is it like their first winter ever? It is like that every year, snow falls from the sky, surprise!

Genealogy / Michniewicz Zygmunt. Terminally ill and looking to contact old friends and colleagues. [20]

So no response is better? I think a response, truthful preferably, is better than nothing. I did a search for him/her and what could be find from it was obituary. Should I just leave it then? When I get more information (if he was a shiop inspector) I will search deeper too. If I was looking for someone I'd like to know. Where's my lack of humanity here?

Polonia / Anyone here knows good options to send stuff to India from Poland? [4]

Hi, as written in the title, my acquaintance needs to send personal belongings to India. It would be around 80 - 100 kg or less, but there is also a huge 42'' lcd tv... I checked Polish Post, their packages can be up to 20 kg only, UPS in this case - up to 70 kg but costs about 2850 zloty. I'm thinking of sea freight/mail or some space available in containters orsomething like that. Any ideas?

Hi Lwowska,

Their website is ok, quite useful actually, so no fear. I used their services once, at least I tried. I got to see the apartment I was planning to rent, and almost at the end of the deal their agent (think I have her business card somewhere) stopped answering emails. In those circumstances it was weird enough to resign, and I found an apartment ssomewhere else. Apart from that they were ok (however, that was a substancial disadvantage;) ).

PM me if you need a different company.

cheers

USA, Canada / CULTURE SHOCK! (of my Polish finance who visited the US) [210]

hahaha, yes. why yes of course. quality of life should be judged upon whether or not you get free shopping bags or not.

Well, yes! Petty things can make your life miserable or quite easy, packing your groceries can be one of such smal things that ease your life...

Life / Car's confrontation with a Wild Boar in Poland [37]

Wild Boar

First name: Wild, last name: Boar.

you mean with a dzik? is the dzik ok?

:D

Why dzik wanted to ram a car?

- Had a bad day, that's all.

Is eating roadkill legal?

- It was accidentally hunted with the use of car. You can take the boar to a vet if still alive or to a place where they collect game, to have it inspected, I think. And remember: Not all dzik is bad. Sometimes they are just chillin' on the beach and doing nuttin':

Life / Why Poland is "surprised" by winter and snow every year? [192]

It was snowing heavily yet the plows were not out in full force over night.

- and how do you know that they were not? There are thousands of kilometers of roads and streets to maintain.

traffic not allowed into cities

- Ok, I guess this happened only in one town, which might have overslept...

the authorities acted too slow

- how do you know? You cannot say that basing your opinion on the fact that there's snow and ice. If there is heavy snowfall one night (first this winter) then do you expect tho have all of it cleanly removed before morning? Show me a country which manages to do so and I'm moving there!

And a pretty bad ass contract for Mr. Plow sp. z o.o.....

Hahahaha, good company...

winter "surprises" Poles

I don't see it. What you mean by surprise? Sure there is more traffic as people drive slower, but not enough people know that in order to start removing snow from roads there must be a certain amount of it falling and this doesn't mean that anyone was surprised. It also takes a bit time to clean it of course. Where's the surprise?

News / Smoking ban in Polish bars and restaurants (AT LAST!) [400]

What?

So it's been a couple of weeks after introducing the smoking ban. I am curious how and if the opinions of some of us here changed at all? Especially how are the smokers coping. Maybe you got used to it by now? Or is it still a disaster? I'm not asking about angry opinions again, but the opinions (if any) that have changed in fact...

News / Smoking ban in Polish bars and restaurants (AT LAST!) [400]

Not sure if this was mentioned...but i was in 'Paparazzi' bar in warsaw the other night. They have sectioned off an area with enough room for about 5 people and 1 table near the door. THIS IS FOR THE NON SMOKERS!!! The rest of the bar, about 97% of it is given over to smokers!!!! Makes a farce of the law. but nothing new there.

Really? Well, it's not according to this new law. Paparazzi in Krakow became smoke free in a normal way.

USA, Canada / Polish Citizen, US legal resident, but no Polish Passport... [67]

You really don't need to go 6 times, only if you forget documents that are required:). Anyway, contact the nearest Polish consulate and ask them. Most probably they'll tell you but if not, I advise that you undergo a simple procedure of verification of Polish citizenship. Gather all documents like your birth cert. and confirmation that e.g. at least one of your parents had Polish citizenship. The procedure isn't expensive but takes time as several gov. offices have to verify the information in all the places you and your parents have their documents, e.g. home towns, birth certs etc. In about two months you will receive a confirmation - hopefully, if you meet the requirements - that you are a Polish citizen. With this, you can apply for your passport.

History / The Greatest King of Poland? [117]

Really like your attitude, Lodz_The_Boat. Although my views are different, I believe what you wrote is really open-minded.

I doubt that, with all that's happened in the Catholic church, only the old generation still goes to church in masses.

- It's not about just going to church, or belief itself. The articles were about the fundamentalists who treat Poland as their playground and think their views are supreior, and want to move this country 700 back in terms of attitude and open-mindness. Obviously they lack this and are intolerant, imposing their religion which in my opinion should be kept to oneself. After all that is what's about beliefs, not marketing and gaining more followers... (at least should be).

Comming back to what was in post #22 and #23:

There is no hope if those fundamentalists put it into action, Poland will be even more a religious country than it is now.

Polonia / What does a citizen of Poland need to do to stay in Italy for for more than 3 months? [2]

Hi,
You need to have a valid passport, not expiring in at least 3 months to enter Italy. No visa required for Poles. If you plan to stay more than 3 months, apply for "carta di soggiorno" at a local carabinieri or other gov. office (of where I am not sure, check it with any Polish embassy/consulate). For shorter periods you just need to register your address within 24 hours (like Polish 'zameldowanie').

Food / Krupnik as a Polish ethnic dish or drink? [13]

krupnik THE soup

YEAAAAAH!!!

Come to think of it..... I am hungry, where is krupnik when one needs it? :-)

- I have a bottle at home, not a pot, a bottle that's right;)

There's a soup?

Of course!

Anyway, two ways that I know how to make it, one requires a stove and about a weeks time, the other doesn't need a stove, but you need a lot more time for infusion.

How much time do you have? All you have to do is to be able to boil water for the first one....

-no no no, you must be talking about some fugazi krupnik or miodowka, not proper krupnik. It does require stove, to heat honey and water and to get the extract of other ingredients.

If this is possible, would you be willing to share your recipe?

Sorry I cannot reveal a detailed receipe but if you look for a different one at internet I could give some practical advice.

If so, can I store the krupnik or should it be consumed immediately?

- there is no rush, the best is after about a year depending on the kind of honey used (honey makes big differences and is a key of sourcing your ingredients), but it is also possible to taste it just after producing, being still warm (though it is not to be mulled, not grzaniec!).

Food / Krupnik as a Polish ethnic dish or drink? [13]

Hi Valentineee,

it tasted like Juicy Fruit gum with a kick

- surely not the taste of krupnik!

toya.net.pl/~fixxxer/Wasze/krupnik.htm

It used to be made by Polmos Zielona Gora but now it's Sobieski company

and here you have a description of a few in English:

khulsey.com/travel/poland_traditional_polish_vodka.html

Anyway it is a good idea, however, bear in mind that this krupnik that you buy never tastes as good as the properly made original reciepe krupnik (krupnik litewski). Still good enough as a gift.
