Language / Sentences: stół z powyłamywanymi nogami / Nasi przodkowie na mchu jadali [25]

refugee expats

Well done on the good level of English there Polo.

refugee: a person who has been forced to leave their country in order to escape war, persecution, or natural disaster.
expat: a person who lives outside their native country.

But keep up the good work on your English lessons. You're doing a swell job buddy.

(who couldn't make it in their own country and have effectively sought asylum in Poland)

Says the 'Merikan.
LOL.

Your deportation order has already been posted so you can start packing.

Americans like you can be deported, EU citizens....yea g'luck with that. Maybe try marrying one Polo. Ah you can't in Poland. Gay marriage isn't allowed yet. I'm presuming you're gay of course because of your preoccupation for male gay sex on this forum. Maybe move to ENgland, meet a nice Biezszczady boy and sink the sausage, then tie the knot and finally, finally you might be able to have Polish citizenship.

Don't let the door hit you on the way out Plastic Polo.

Law / Zloty climbs as ratings agency upgrades Poland [34]

Poland is a truly democratic country and is a safe place to bring up a family, wide open spaces, good education and healthcare system

No, yes, some, not really, terrible.

The status of the US Dollar as the world wide currency of trade will fall,

Excellent news, what's taking over?
Yen, Rouble or the Yo-yo?

Real Estate / Pitfalls of buying a Polish Flat built in 1950's [20]

you don't know anything about the price of property in Katowice

Nope, don't need to know it.

But a quick google and hey presto I can find out ;)

1.5km from the train tracks

That's good, you'll be fine then. You're obviously up towards the Muchowiec end. Nicer up there, you'll be close to the park and the private airport....that's not very noisy though, only a handful of smaller planes and helicopters come in and out of it every day. Beside 3-stawy park and shopping centre too.

I just wanted to know some practical things such as the other costs I might expect when buying and where to find a reputable person to inspect the property.

And IMO the best thing you could do would be to hire a lawyer who specialises in property and you'd be steered in the right direction. Lawyers are ten a penny in Katowice and they don't charge much. They'd also be able to get you a surveyor since that's the game they're involved in.

I know it's an extra charge, but from bitter experience it's far better in the long run to hire professionals to do the dirty work than try going about it yourself. People see foreigners coming to buy property here and all they see is dollar signs y'know. The reason I'm recommending a lawyer is because they'll be able to sort out any tax issues too. Ya never know they might be able to save you a bit on it.

Best of luck.

Real Estate / Pitfalls of buying a Polish Flat built in 1950's [20]

At that price it must be Brynow or Ligota.......

Could be, don't have a clue about the price of property here.
Just know I wouldn't live in either of those sh!teholes.

it's on Ulica Francuska

Handy, close to city centre, nice noisy hospital there too and really busy railtracks. Hope you don't plan on sleeping :D

This one is built from brick, I heard that brick constructed apartments from this time were generally better quality

If someone told you that 1950s Communist brick-built blocks are of good quality then sir your leg has been well and truly pulled.

The entirety of Francuska is crumbling, only thing it's got going for it is its location....and a wee craft beer pub called Browariat. That place is great.

But look, you're paying for an address. You want better value for your buck, you're gonna need to look at the suburbs.

Work / What salary can be asked at IBM Poland? [67]

best salary asked for 13+ yrs of experience

no idea, I know 2 things about IBM
1. They helped the Nazis round up the Jews in the 1930s, en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IBM_and_the_Holocaust
2. They pay crap wages

What ever they do offer though, tell them you want double.
I wouldn't even consider moving to Poland unless I was getting 10,000zl per month into my pocket after tax.

UK, Ireland / Poles again shed blood for Britain [13]

As part of their protest to demand requal rights in the UK,

Lol Polo Lol
Maybe you might actually want to look up what it was actually about, maybe, y'know, just maybe, you might learn something and you won't come across like a complete and utter pillock for a change.

Why not stick to posting about something you know about?

That doesn't happen with the OP. Ever.

Just a shame that Warsaw don't accept British citizens as blood donors.

What? Seriously?

The right of Poles to strike or protest is also rather "iffy" and debatable.

They have the right to strike or protest the same as anyone else employed there.

Honest to christ, the f!cking sh!te that you come out with. The world would be a better place if you weren't in it.

5 story high building built in the 1950's from brick

It's in an area of Katowice we'd specifically like to live within.

If it's Szopienice or Nikiszowiec then run for the hills coz they are scumholes.

Regarding your charges, hire a lawyer here, they're pretty cheap and get them to do everything.

News / New constitution In Poland? [57]

Because he did not embody the spirit of Poland.

That's pretty funny coming from you.

a president should be on the same wavelength as sthe majrotiy of his subjects who were not liberals, agnostics or judaeophiles.

Then you clearly don't understand what the actual role of a president of Poland.

I want to move with wife and 9 months baby. My parents Will be in India. And I have to support them also

Wife, baby and parents on 5000zl.

No hope.
5000zl would barely support one person in Poland......unless you want to eat beans and rice for the rest of your life.

sheriffs, bailiffs, comptrollers and many judges are elected by the people. Surely worthy of emulation!

Don't be ridiculous.
You write some dumb f!ckin sh!t on this forum.
Hahahah, you seriously think the American justice system of electing judges, who are all members of political parties to the bench is smart!!!
Yea, mate, you're about as Polish a Mom's apple pie.

News / Poland in ruin or flourishing? [35]

If there is one person in the world that can push this country to the spot so well deserved by the Poles in the leadership of this continent, this man is Andrzej Duda.

Woah, wait, what???

Poles 'deserve' to lead the continent?
Jaysus, Germans thought the same about Hitler.

Look, it's simple, Poland isn't an important country in the grand scheme of things, most Europeans wouldn't even be able to find it on a map. Get over it.

Jaysus, really

in the leadership of this continent

hahaha, this forum really does get some delusional nut cases.

Can't imagine what life is like for a Dub in Katowice

Ah, I'm not really though, I'm a Yellow Belly, chap from Kildare knocks around here too, and sure I spent most of me life in Dublin so I picked up the lingo.

Kato's grand...especially in the summer/autumn. Grim as f!ck in the winter, but sure in fairness, the whole of Poland is a grim borefest during the winter unless you live in the mountains and can ski.

Ah it's grand though, was an awful kip when I landed here first, way better now. Swear to god I've an Italian buddy here and he says there's a restaurant here called Len Arte, chap says it's the best pizza he's ever had....that's good enough for me :P

News / New constitution In Poland? [57]

Merged: President of Poland wants to change constitution?

So what's all this about?

Speaker of the Polish parliament Małgorzata Kidawa-Błońska has criticised calls by newly installed President Andrzej Duda for a new constitution, including a revision of the presidential role.

"As we have observed in recent years, the president's role is stipulated in the constitution - and it is quite a strong role - with authority over the armed forces, the representation of Poland abroad, and the opportunity to put forward own bills," she said during a speech at Gdańsk's Hewelianum Centre.

thenews/1/9/Artykul/217490,Speaker-rejects-presidents-call-for-new-constitution

The article doesn't say what changes he wants to make, so can someone here fill me in.
Should we be worried, will we all be pledging allegiance bowing towards a crowned eagle in a few weeks' time???

I joke of course, but what changes does he want to make?

Also, this is nonsense:

The presence of NATO in Poland and Central and Eastern Europe should increase, said President Andrzej Duda in his first interview for Polish Radio since taking office.

"The aim is very simple: to strengthen Polish security, [while at the same time] strengthening security guarantees for Central and Eastern Europe," stressed President Andrzej Duda, adding that the number of NATO bases in Poland should increase.

Andrzej Duda has said many times that NATO should have a stronger presence in the country.

thenews/1/10/Artykul/217506,President-Duda-Higher-NATO-presence-in-Poland-necessary

NATO have done f!ck all good ever and having them here would only add fuel to the fire.

Law / Your experience as a foreigner running a small business in Poland [43]

very encouraging

Exactly as Delph says, it's pretty easy to set up a company now.

the only slow part of the process is Zus, I think it takes between 6-8 weeks for them to sort out your health/social insurance, so if you're going to be living here during that time it would be a good idea to have some travel insurance, otherwise, if anything happens, you might be refused entry to a hospital.

Like Roger says, the tax system is pretty straight forward and if you're selling a service it's easy to do your own accounting. It depends on what you do. My tax is a nightmare because I sell stuff though sites based all over the world so I'm paying tax in different territories, getting some of it credited back, or I don't pay tax in those territories and have to pay it here. It's a head melter but finally got an accountant that agreed to do it.

Oh, opening a bank account while easy, take about 2 hours. F!ck knows why.....only logical thing I could come up with is that Polish banks love a paper trail.

You'll need your passport and your residence card to open an account and some proof of address of where you're from.

Nowt wrong with Katowice. They have fixed it up nice now that I have left

Damn straight, place is on the up. More and more people moving here, wages are the highest in the land.
Even has more football clubs.....maybe that's not such a good thing, but at least the option is there.
3 in the top league, 3 in the 1st division.

All Warsaw has is Legia, and they're the ultimate in scum.

it's small and very provincial in mentality Depends upon what you've been used to

No, it's not, you are wrong again.
I love the way you look down on everyone, really paints a descriptive painting of the person you are.

sure Kato is not that far but town is rather depressing too.

Says you, wtf do you know about it?

What's it like up there on your high horse?

With a population of 5.2 million there's plenty of things to do here.
Urban population of 2.7m

The area has a higher population that Warsaw, money and standard of living are better here too.
Plus you don't get so many people whose heads are rooted up their own arses.

Life / Catholic idol worship in Poland [29]

Might it not be Ukrainians doing that?

Naw, wouldn't think so, ain't too many Ukrainians around there anymore. Polish border gimps making it awful hard on them since that whole Crimea yoke kicked off.

Maybe, but I know from my inlaws who run a B&B down there that they get a fair few religious types staying with them, biking or horsing around up and down mountains to have a good auld pray.

Sure whatever floats your boat, but I'd rather be licking pish off a nettle that spending my free time off visiting places like that.

Not Paedophilia Smurf rather incest. Get your technical words right!

Haha, yea, sorry you're dead right there :D

Life / Catholic idol worship in Poland [29]

Can't say I've ever seen many people praying to shrines at the side of the road

I've seen it a lot down in Bieszczady. Tourists goin around on their bikes or on horses and stopping and having an auld pray. It's a bit like Ireland, but 200 years ago.

Catholics don't worship idols. The saints are believed to have the power to intercede on behalf of petitioners

It's pretty much the same thing. Even by having pictures/statues of angels/saints in a place of worship is technically idol worship. Catholic Church puts up with it though coz it keeps the sheep coming and coppers in the coffers.

Sure it's all nonsense anyway, we all know that.

So is my dog

How do you know that, have to never seen All Dogs Go to Heaven?

When adam and his children (who lived hundreds of years) died

Oh yea, Adam who had 2 sons, Cain and Abel, one of them killed the other and then they still had to breed to get humanity started so Cain had to engage in sexual congress with his mother (look up the etymology of 'motherf!!ker'). And then Granddad Adam had to have sex with them. This all happening about 4000+ years ago!

Thus beginning the long history of paedophilia in the Christian Church.

Polonius, do you live in Poland? It's just that I don't recognise the country you describe

+1

PiS claims that Poland is in ruin

complete and utter idiots.

The point is whether the improvement has been equitably (I didn't say "equally") distributed.

Poland and her people who live, and come from here, not those silly Plastics, here have never had it so good.

You wanted capitalism, you got it. Deal with it.

still a majority of poor in Poland.

It's funny how people living in Warsaw think that about Poland.

Life / In Poland everyone is everyone else's doctor? [33]

Does anyone know how this started?

It was started by a troll on the internet who kept making bullsh!t forum threads even though he wasn't a registered member of the forum.

It all ended badly though, his body was found in a forest close to a disused coalmine in Bytom. A host of wild boar were demolishing his body when Police finally found his body. It's believed that 50 homesless men had also had their way with the body before the boars were given their turn.

A disgusting end, but y'know, that's Bytom baby.
