Life / Costs of doctor and students life in Warsaw? [7]

Remember also that you will have to pay for electricity, water, rubbish disposal, your telephone bill, internet connection, your transport costs, medicine - all this before you start paying for books and other necessaries......and of course food, as you must eat something now and again.

Work / Poland is not the best country to get part time job with study? [59]

@WaqUp
As long as you have the necessary qualification in order to be accepted for the MA, can pay from your own pocket and can speak the Polish language up to the standard required then there will be no problem. If your MA is from another country you may have to have it recognized in Poland. They may test your Polish ability as well. Apply to a University and let us know how you got on.

Classifieds / FOR SALE lovely apartment on Grzegórzecka, 53m², 5min from the center, 5min from the shore of Wisła River [20]

You are right about the 10K pln m2 price - but they are in new purpose-built luxury apartment and not in a loft, which prohibits anyone over 60 from being interested in it..

Remember the asking price is NOT the price that any apartment is sold for. In my 'kamienica' (tenament) a flat has been on sale for over 2 years, the seller has not dropped the asking price - but nobody is buying it. The seller has to pay maintenance costs for each year and if he had dropped the price - he would have come out even by now.

It seems that Poles cannot do simple mathematical calculations. Drop the price by 1K per m2 and sell it NOW, but no, they would rather keep it on the market for 5 years and not sell it.

Law / Polish inheritance - court ruling and delay - the only child [18]

I was not talking about property taxes - and I DO know how much they are as I have a property myself. What I was talking about is the 20% tax due on the resale price of a property if you have not owned it for the last 5 years. This is a substantial sum.

Law / Polish inheritance - court ruling and delay - the only child [18]

I came across a Polish website which confirms that where there is no will a 'spouse' is entitled to 25% share. There was also a stipulation that it is only within the first 6 months that anyone 'entitled' can refuse to accept their share of an inheritance, so that they are not liable for any debts (if there are any). They have to notify the court of that.

It could be that the 16 family members are waiting for the 5 year cut-off so that they will not pay tax on the property.
I'm afraid there is almost nothing that you can do, except perhaps write to someone questioning the delay.

Law / Polish inheritance - court ruling and delay - the only child [18]

I do not believe (but check on relevant websites) that there is a time limit by which interested parties need to submit documents for the division of the estate. It seems likely that family members maybe having trouble with finding the right documents to prove their claim. Also the Court must be certain that those named are all those who could ever submit a claim on the estate.

Another way to proceed is to find a good solicitor who may write to them to ask what is going on. But remember, he will have to write to everyone concerned and this will take time and money. Could you not contact a representative of the family and ask what is going on. It may be that if you divide a 25% share by 16 people, they are in no hurry to proceed, as they will not receive a large sum after any sale. .

The courts ruling is correct as to the percentage of the inheritance. There is no point in contesting it. If the wife had lived, she would be entitled to her share and now her descendants have a right to her share.

You cannot threaten anyone with legal proceedings as the case is in the court's hands. There may also be a question of tax due on the property if you have not owned it for more than five years before selling it. Research thoroughly whether you will have to pay any tax. This is totally separate from any inheritance tax, which you may not have to pay. Make sure that you have good valuations from a few estate agents before the sale of the property.

Make sure that YOU have provided to the right person/authority all the documents they have asked for.You can then write to them politely asking why there is a delay. The courts maybe asking for documents that your family has to provide - so enquire as to which documents are lacking before the matter can go ahead.

Work / Working and Living in Wroclaw [2]

20K pln gross per month is a good salary. If you are considering it as a stepping stone for the future - go for it.

Law / Length of time to receive confirmation of Polish Citizenship [26]

Give over. The best advice for you is to sit tight and wait another 3 months, then gently remind them.
If you start causing trouble, they may put the papers somewhere and forget about them and they could remain 'somewhere' for years. They may even ask you to submit copies of everything you've submitted before as they can say that they have lost them.

Do you have written evidence that you have actually submitted anything?

Classifieds / FOR SALE lovely apartment on Grzegórzecka, 53m², 5min from the center, 5min from the shore of Wisła River [20]

I always like (and I know I'm very old fashioned) to see the front of the building in relation to others in the street.

With regards to this flat, it could be a bargain, (I don't feel that it is) but then again, who wants to live in a loft and have to climb 3 flights of stairs with their shopping or a child in a pram/pushchair. This is only suitable for youngsters, no 6-70 year old wants to do that.

I would be bothered about the following:
1. roof and its condition - last time it was repaired/renovated,
2. who owns the building and legal status. Important, as the czynsz (amount payable 320 pln will increase every year)
3. cost of heating during winter time - as flat is all electric
and most importantly, the price of 8.5K per metre is far, far too high for a loft space.

Work / Popular pay days in Poland [7]

Found something . By Law - A salary needs to be paid by the 10th day of the month following the month in which it was earned. So if you worked in January, the employer has to pay you for it by the 10th February.

Your contract of employment may state a different date say the last day of the month in which the salary was earned or payment in parts during the month..

Out of interest I'll search the internet for verification of when wages/salaries have to be paid.

Life / Long-term living and working in Poland [12]

Only your employer is able to say whether he will give you any raise in your salary.
Think of Poland in this way: remember when you met a woman and fell in love and it was all wonderful and exciting and after a year or two you didn't feel the same and after 5 years you separated....this is what it will be like in Poland.

Our of your 5K you will have to rent a flat, eat, clothe yourself, pay bills. Your bills gas, electricity, taxes, phone, internet, travel costs could come to another 500 pln per month.

It is o.k. salary for a single person, but not so good for a family. There are of course people who survive on much less, but they have family connections, speak the language, know where to go for bargains. They know how to deal with officialdom. You will find everything strange and after 5 years you will think to yourself - what do I do now?

Wish you all the best though, I worked in Poland for 2 years and thought that everyone was always angry and nervy- after 2 years I behaved exactly like them.It was too much for me.

Law / Poland tourist visa refusal [10]

You do not have to convince me - I do not know you and it's not my problem. However, you have to convince the authorities and you have failed to do that. They do not have to give you a reason anyway - just refuse you and that's it. No one can help you.

Real Estate / Contact from a Łukasz Mróz about Krakow property inheritance is this a scam? [20]

I was under the impression that you couldn't buy (a share in the building) if there was no owner of the building to buy from. Who would you buy off? If the owners own parts of the building, they are very unlikely to sell. Everyone thinks that a share (1 or 2%) in a building are worth millions.
