I believe PiS are well-meaning, decent people who's rule is to the benefit of the most people at the expense of the so-called elites - the elites who are egoistic and don't want to share power or be controlled by the people

it would have been reflected on the PF one time or another, but the truth is it has never been.

PolishForums is not the pinnacle of the world neither it is of Poland - if you haven't noticed judicial scandals and scandals involving the judges during the 3rd RP you haven't been paying attention at all - and the terms 'special cast of people' and common theft by judges were not made up by PiS - what i also recommend you to pay attention to is that judges only recently have been obliged to report their financial assets - how convenient for them what do you think

again - I am not saying all judges are corrupt or partisan or consider themselves 'a special cast of people' but enough of them are warranting the idea to finally have checks on them and showing them that they should be servants of the people not owners of Rzeczpospolita Polska

at cms: and again the new laws especially on appointing new judges would stop the practice of the judiciary being a power unto themselves without any checks and controls - that it must lead to pathology was shown multiple time over the III RP time - if you haven't noticed it then all I can call is blind

I just sincerely hope the considerable effort the govt put into misinformation and propaganda was paid for by PiS and not from taxpayers funds or by the shareholders of Orlen, Pekao etc.

do you think that government propaganda including billion deals with private broadcasters was paid by PO during their rule

or maybe you think the likes of Nowoczesna would be less generous on propaganda from taxpayer funds - if so I envy your naivety

and actually the PR around the proposed judiciary changes was rather minimal

I didn't know you were a conspiracy theorist mafketis, I guess according to you all those people who comment on portals like interia, wp and onet in support of PiS are paid trolls - this is a common belief among total oposition supporters who don't understand how they have lost elections and live in a PO+TVN bubbles

As for the police, do you seriously believe they are totally new people.

I haven't heard of any police provocations during PiS rule, maybe you have - if so please share

as of recently - 2015 and 2016 Independence Day marches in Warsaw went completely peacefully - I am not saying it was all the police fault before but there was evidence on youtube of police undercover starting riots - also Paweł Wojtunik told Elżbieta Bieńkowska on one of the Sowa tapes that it was Bartłomiej Sikorski's people (police or ABW don't remember now) who set the guard post before the Russian embassy on fire during one of the marches - this is how far they went with the provocations

so maybe it's the issue of police and ABW leadership

regular judges will be appointed by KRS just like now, and could be removed by the new Disciplinary branch of the Supreme Court, the KRS (National Judiciary Board) will be elected differently - till now the majority of the seats in KRS was divided between various branches and levels of the judiciary and the minority were elected by the Sejm and Senate (in effect the judiciary was an authority unto itself) - from now on the majority will be elected by the 3/5 of the Sejm

Or the absurd situation when one of prominent PiS politicians is a former communist prosecutor.

Piotrowicz was a decent person back then, he even helped many Solidarity activists escape prison sentences, there are witnesses

tell me what happens to those 'enemies of the state' you talk about - are they prosecuted in any way - appart from removing Frasyniuk out of the way of legal manifestation

But I can't remember other governments bringing water cannons to the protests.

there were rubber bullets fired at protesting coal miners in Jastrzębie during PO rule, there were massive police provocations and then interventions during Independence Day marches during the PO time as well, people were prosecuted for running websites like antykomor.pl - you really have a short or selective memory

Which is precisely what is at risk.

the judiciary was without any democratic control before the new law - they were an authority unto themselves - without ANY checks

In some states they are elected but normally with extensive checks.

democratic control is a check enough

The American Bar Association has criticised the proposed Polish law for destroying the separation of executive and judicial branches.

None of those problems will be fixed by this law. However a very serious problem will be created - Govt control of the judicial branch.

I'm sure you realise that jugdes are elected in the US - this is the ultimate democratic control of the judiciary - the current reform gives the people at least indirect control over the judiciary through an elected government and ends pathological state where judges were an authority unto themselves

if you think in terms of checks an balances - there was no check on the judiciary in Poland
