News / Opole townsfolk outraged by mayor's destruction of their song festival [137]

The mayor won more than 67% of the vote

And that is the last time. The townsfolk are up in arms that their mayor has destroyed a 54-year-old tradition that really put the city on the map. No TVN or other ersatz can re-create the magic and overall ambience of the Opole Song Festival under TVP aegis. And voters will remember who not to vote for in the next council election.

@Polonius3
In the Nazi-Soviet narration of late 1939, it was Poland that started WW2 by provoking the Third Reich with: Gliwicew, beatings of Volksdeutsche, refusal to allow an extraterritorial motorway and rail-line across the Polish corridor and probabyl a few more. Similarly in this case, former PO councillor WIśniewski used the protest of a few pro-PO showbiz types as a convenient pretext to jump into the fray.

a particularly good one

Indeed, in your books anything that can be used to badmouth Poland is good.
Remember how this thread started. A brave lone councillor had to guts to stand up in defence of Poland's good name. "Good name" + "Poland" was a red cape to the PiSlamic Bull which triggered yet another round of his knee-jerk Poland-bashing. And, of course, as always he coiuld rely on his pitiful little disciple to second the derision.

News / Opole townsfolk outraged by mayor's destruction of their song festival [137]

Opole residents interivewed on Wednwedasy expressed outrage and disgust at Mayor Wiśniewski's destruction of the Opole Song Festival. Their city's best-known claim to fame was dashed when he decided to unilaterally break the contract. Not only did he destroy a half-century-long tradition of which Opolians were proud and looked forward to each year but also deprived the city of the revenues the festival always provided, Resuarateurs, taxi drivers, shopkeepers and hotel operators are all quite turned off by the stupidity of the mayor who is now quite unlikely to get re-elected. Culture Minister Piotr Gliński said the total oppositon have opened yet another war front of their reckless adventurism, politicising the song festival was neither Platerformerish nor PiS, only Polish.

rewrite a piece of the history

Since when are comic books the forum for writing or rewriting history?. Providing a super-cursory, short-cut picture of a complex historical issue is also a lie. That's probably why the LL so hotly advocates it.

Catholic Poles murdered Jewish Poles

When will we see you writing about Jewish Poles murdering Polish Poles? Oh, I forgot. You refuse to answer the question: R U 1 2! That is most telling indeed!

PIS councillor are utterly indefensible

On the contrary, all things considered, it was a wise move. PiSlamic and other PF Pole-bashers are simply acting out their accepted roles.

News / Anti-government opposition wants to impeach Poland's President Duda [44]

Merged:

President Andrzej Duda marks second anniverary of presidency with 60% support.

President Andrzej Duda has marked the 2nd anniversary of his presidency with a brief address to the Polish nation. In it he reviewed the several of the numerous achievements of his administration so far but added that much remained to be done. Duda commands the support of 60% of Poles, more than any other Polish politician at present.

his act of stupidity

Only in the skewed view of mean-spirited bigots. He had a goodpoint. Send a few slogans in comic book form for misinterpretation by clueless youth does not make sense. Explaining all the complexities of Russian occupation, Russification, the Okhrana and its provocations transcends the scope of the comic-book format. The

He may have done but it was not reflected in your or your guru's lambasting of him.
We're not in Białystok nor are we obliged to read any reports, only to discuss things on the forum, and nothing but attacks and negativism were directed at the councilor here by you and other PO stooges.

Another PiS mess

The roughshod way you purposly portrayed it so young readers of the comic would conclude that Poles are anti-Semites might look that way. But as in a Stalinist rigged show trial, you did not let the accused give his side of the story and explain his motives, showing how PC and cultural marxism are closely related. If the council opposed the move, they must be dominated by the "total opposition" whose sole knee-jerk reaction to good change is total negation.

city council in Bialystok

No, I was referring to those inveterate expat Pole-bashers on PF who will go to any lengths to smear, deride or ridicule the country that gave them refuge. They are the ones who can always be counted on the take the non-Polish side of any row or controversy. One can only wonder what keeps them here in a coutnry they so vehemently loath and despise. One of them (whose name I will not mention) has been here 22 years and has never even bothered to master the language. For him Anglo-jabber is enough.

varying interpretations

Like most historicla occurrences, the 1906 Białaystok pogrom was not a black & white incident but one example of the various crisscrossing ethno-religious and political undercurrents permeating Russian-occupied Poland. But it provides the ideal opportunity to highlight THE ANATOMY OF A POLE-BASHER (of which there are more than one on PF).

The Pole-bashier will also invoke historical facts but will simplicisticly focus on a few points that back up his anti-Poloish thesis and run rough-shod over the many circumstrances and implications of a given occurrence. Here the point was to accuse Poles of anti-Semitism for the benefit of the young people for whom this comic book was intended. The main poitns can be summed up as follows: Jews were attacked in a pogrom by townsfolk of a Polish city. Ergo Poles are anti-Semites. All the hallmarks of a clear Russian provocation are missing in that statement. They would be too complicated and involved in a comic book for the average young reader to understand anyway.

The councillor felt they owiuld be out of place in a comic book meant to popularise Zamenhof's achievements and pormtoe the city of Białystok. One might also say there is far too much violence in today's computer games and action films to highlight more in such a publication. But the Pole-basher is unconcerned about such fine points. His sole aim is to bash the good name of Poland, Poles and things Polish as well as the pro-Polish Law and Justice party.

read the first post

First of all, this is a comic book. Secondly the councillor doesa nto deny htat a pogrom had occurred but feels it is out of place in a popular pulication meant to promote Białystok and will be distributed ot Polish schools and embassies abroad.

Re the 1906 pogrom, the tsarist occupation authorities for the first time allowed a Corpus Christi procession to move through the streets, and during the procession a bomb went off killing one of hte procession participants. At the same time the Russian Orthodox Chruch was holding its own rival procession commemorating the return of the Greek Catholic Church into its fold. According to the Russian authorities, Jews, who accoutned for 66% of the Bialystok townsfolk, opened fire on the procession. Russian police officer Dyerkachov, who had opposed the anti-Semitism of police commissioner Shermyetov, was killed in the violence. Those circumstances clearly showed that this was a tsarist provocation designed to to stir up the city's Polish and Russian populace.

News / Film director Paweł Pitera (married to PO activist Julia Pitera) was SB contact [3]

Film director Paweł Pitera sued "Gazeta Polska" after it revealed in 2008 his conatcts with the SB. Two courts dismissed the lawsuit and in 2015 the court of appeals did likewise. His last chance to clear himself was cassation by the Supreme Court which however also dismissed the case. He is married to senior PO actiuvist MEP Julia Pitera. Yet another example of how PO and its surrounds are riddled with unsavoury PRL-era holdovers. Interestingly, Pitera has directed films about the Vatican. To expiate for his SB-linked sins or to create a smoke-screen and alibi -- that is the question.

Have you read the book? Can you cite the sentence or passage that according to you has been removed or doctored? Otherwise you're simply engagign in what Poles call "bicie piany" (rush to Google translate)!

He did however survive the 1906 Pogrom

Does that mean Zamnehof was in the midst of the tsar's charging mounted Cossacks and managed to escape unscathed. Or merely that he was living there at the time of the pogrom but not idrectly involved?

88 Poles

So where did the Jews disappeared? this was supposed to be an example of Polish anti-Semitism. Or have your PC heroes now defined anti-Semitism to mean Pole-bashing?

PIS councillor

Judging from the huge amount of time spent and copy churned out by you about this one bloke, he must be some really VIP of nationwide, nay--world-wide prominence whose every utterance and act is of key significance.

functionary's attempt

Setting up a separate thread for a minor local incident was asinine in the first place. The mods should have transferred it to the post-election thread. I used to create separate threads for things but mostly they got merged with similar ones already in existence.

And chill out and lighten up, lower-case! One PF-er constantly snitching to mods on PF is more than enough.

the election in 2067!

Yes, and the crystal ball says that 56% of the votes will be won by the Polish Patriotic League, a mega-party formed in 2041 after PiS merged with Kukiz, PSL and the Catholic Democratic Alliance (set up in 2030). Petru's N-word will be long gone, the successor to PO, Demokratyczny Rynek (Democratic Market) party, will get 8% of the vote and a small leftist grouping, the Progress Party (Partia Postępu) will get 9% in 2067. The Polish Muslim Union (Związek Muzułmanów Polskich) did not make it under the wire with only 3%. Muslims now account for 4% of Poland's popualtion but many do not have Polish ciitzenship and some of those who do have do not vote.

your expert knowledge of the PiSlamic State

Your wrong. I only know one PiSlamic poster on PF and a few wannabes (one currently suspended) who for some unknown reason regard him as their guru.

You still haven't answered the simple question: what was so revolting and disgusting about PO's 8 years of misrule that prompted the Polish electorate to give their opponents and outright victory? Even PO had to tack on the PSL hayseeds to get a majority. And why was Komoroswski rejected after 5 years in office? Was it his WSI connections or the fact that he had been a SB snitch codenamed Liwin? One can't formulate a question any simpler than that.

PIS councillor

That councillor must really be a VIP, a major authority, celebrity or guru since you have seen fit to devote so much time and energy to his person and activities.. I don't even know his name. He wrote some book about esperanto or something, but for me he's a nobody. But a busybody like (.......) must pick nits and isn't happy unless he does.

your knowledge of history

This was not about anyone's knowledge of world or even Polish history, but a simple request to explain the most humuliating election defeat in Polish history: that of 2015. Not 2011, or 1984 or what might be in 2049, but Otcober 2015. That was the first time ever Polish voters were so fed up with the PO scamster regime that they gave their opponents an outright victory? So we're still still waiting for an explanation fromn you or one of your....er, um, I mean your one disciple.
