News / Kaczyński slams "political correctness" plague in Poland [85]

It's a political thread. What is your problem with using correct names, so that members outside of Poland can follow the thread too?

Is it permitted to use Dear Leader Kaczyński? It will be entirely appropriate sooner rather than later ;)

News / Poland Parliamentary elections 2015 [1060]

Identical arguments were voiced by Jerzy Urban in defence of detetnions, street round-ups, home searches and other such "routine" police-state tactics.

So in other words, the law as adopted by democratic and free Poland is actually comparable to the law in the PRL? That's a pretty offensive thing to say, given the people that fought and gave their lives for this country.

The glib justifications were backed up by very "convincing" rubber-encased
cable batons.

No-one was using batons, no-one was threatening anyone. It was a routine police control.

Kopacz has apparently remained faithful to the Jaruzelski heritage.

Comparing police checks to ensure the safety of the passengers and other road users to Jaruzelski's regime... go on Polonius, you're just showing your utter lack of respect.

It was a clear case of poltically ordered harassment.

It was a clear case of the law being applied equally to all citizens of the Republic regardless of who or what they are. I really cannot understand why you seem to be promoting special treatment for some.

Grzegorz Przemyk, a secondary-school graduate, was hauled in for a "routine check" in Old Town in 1983.

Comparing that to a routine bus inspection is in pretty bad taste.

That's how all regimes operate.

If it was a regime Polonius, then you would be rotting in a prison cell.

Sure, a campaign coach prominently labelled Szydłobus leaving TV HQ is like any other bus. They're two a penny, ain't they?

Shouldn't you be happy that no politician is above the law?

It seems strange that you're complaining about the police checking a) whether the bus is roadworthy, b) whether the documentation is present and correct and c) whether the driver is fit to drive. Fits entirely in with the IV RP - laws are for everyone else, but not for the nomeklatura.

If Szydło doesn't like it, she's free to campaign about changing the law so that police no longer check buses and their drivers. I'm sure that'll go down very well with parents...!

Just thought I'd quote this from last night's debate...

Kopacz: Let's discuss women's rights. Over the last four years you voted against women's rights three times as an MP.

Szydło: All children should be loved. Why do three million Poles want to leave Poland?

Kopacz: Poles: you have heard the opinion from a woman who voted against women's rights.

Upon leaving the TV debate site Szydło's Szydłobsu was stopped, inspected by police and written up.

Polonius, you do realise that all transport like this must be declared to the police? I have to write a letter to the police every time I hire a bus to take kids somewhere - and checks are made frequently. It's normal in Poland, and don't pretend otherwise.

Szydło is not exempt from the law - in fact, she should be very happy that the police are doing their job properly.

In any event it smacked of PRL all the way.

No, it didn't. It smacked of the police doing their job properly.

See, Polonius - you might fool a few non-Poles, but those of us living here know that bus checks are absolutely normal.

Interesting that you think that Party members should be exempt from the law, Polonius.

PiS are harking back to a previous time like I've frequently suggested?

News / Poland Parliamentary elections 2015 [1060]

Making a federal case out of a minor local incident is typical of small-minded PO backers.

Minor local incident? It's not the first time that PiS have been openly hostile towards the German minority - as I well remember, even Kaczyński was making threats towards them not that long ago. If PiS were a sane party, they would immediately announce that the candidate in question is expelled from the Party (capital p intentional). There's no need to abuse children for the sake of political points.

Oh don't be sad about it :-/ I don't have the candidate that I would vote for sure and since I don't live in Poland it makes no difference to me so I can vote for you, I am in those 6-10% of undecided voters, who do you think I should vote delph?

PiS. You're not going to vote ZL, Nowoczesna or PO - so it leaves PiS and Kukiz. If Kukiz forms a coalition with PiS, he's going to cause a lot of trouble - he has no real experience in politics, and he was openly indulging in fights with PiS online not that long ago. From a country point of view, PiS winning a majority is surely preferable to an unstable PiS/Kukiz coalition.

Polonius, how can you take a poll in that rag (worse than your grey toilet paper!) seriously?

The only thing that matters is who can win the vote of confidence in the Sejm. Everything else is irrelevant.

That's not really credible.

From looking around, it looks like it was pretty bland and no-one won it. I watched a little bit of it, but there were no fireworks or knockout blows.

Don't you realise that your screaming is not heard? You can not influence voting decisions on this forum, people who have rights to vote allready know their choices here.

There's still 6-10% of undecided voters. As for "screaming", it seems that the only screaming is done by rude candidates who try and deny the right of children to sing in their own language.

btw do you have rights to vote delph?

Sadly, no. Another year, so just in time for the 2017 election.

Not sure who I'd vote for, actually. Kukiz is an obvious no, but beyond that... it would probably come down to who the best candidate was in my area.

What about the guitly people who had their msideeds swept under the rug duribg the PO era?

PiS previously made it very clear (with Ziobro) that they didn't respect the judiciary and prosecutors as an independent institution, so how can anyone have faith in PiS to allow institutions to do their work free of political interference?

Or do you mean that PiS will go after people like Hoffman and insist on bigger punishments?

The world does not consist solely of innocent people.

PiS through and through - everyone is guilty, except them.

Perhaps Polonius, you can explain whether the IV RP will demand the President resigns for his fraudulent activities?

If the new guard can keep the old guard off the playing field than maybe PiS can evolve into a normal Christian Democratic party which would not be the worst thing in the world.

No, it wouldn't be a bad thing at all. But the desire for "revenge" over Smoleńsk hasn't gone away, and I fear that many innocent people are about to have their lives ruined as a result. Macierewicz even made it clear that they have names ready and waiting - which is rather frightening.

I can see 2006 happening all over again - Kaczyński seizes power from a popular Szydło, proceeds to destroy the government and then blames everyone else in sight for being destroyed again in an election.

Well, Polonius and his reactions are exactly what we can expect. He's completely ignoring it - instead of doing the honourable thing and denouncing such behaviour. Sadly, the German minority in particular are likely to get a lot of abuse under a PiS government.

Let's discuss the PiS candidate telling teenagers to shut up, shall we?

We're not discussing your fantasies Polonius. We're discussing PiS candidates being openly rude and nasty to national minorities.

That is typIcal of the godless set on the outside looking in. They see "The Church" as a bunch of doddering old bishops.

Well, it is, isn't it? Dissent is rarely tolerated...

In actuality, "THE CHURCH IS US!"

No, it really isn't. If it was, they would refrain from a lot of things that make people angry.

Another day, another hilarious story involving PiS and being intolerant.

The actor and PiS candidate for the Sejm, Bartlomiej Morawski has banned teenagers singing in German at the fair in Krapkowice. Why? Because "this is Poland,"

wiadomosci.gazeta.pl/wiadomosci/1,147565,19046187,kandydat-pis-krzyczy-do-dzieci-spiewajacych-po-niemiecku-tu.html#Czolka3Img

The true colours just keep on revealing themselves. And to think that PiS has the cheek to complain about Lithuania's behaviour towards the Polish minority?

Well, given that their own members tend to get mad when they do so...

I mentioned it before to Polonius that it would be much better for everyone if the Church could simply have their own political party.

The problem is the concordat, which essentially says that the church can do whatever the hell it wants. Unfortunately, they've already said that this is a matter for each individual church - which is clearly bollocks.

For what it's worth, I'd walk out of any church that tried to tell me how to vote - be it for ZL, PO, PiS or others. Why is it though that only PiS supporters feel the need to tell other people how to vote?

No doubt some priests will be telling people how to vote from the pulpit as they usually do at election time.

They already did. The difference now is that people are openly protesting such things and walking out of churches as a result.

Right, just take a look at people that's going to deal with these matters when PiS wins: Morawiecki, Kluza, Szałamacha and compare them with current crew of "experts" :))))

So if they're so good on economic matters, why does Kaczyński keep proposing more and more unrealistic things? Flats for 2,500zl/m2? Cutting the retirement age? Money for everyone? :D

We all know that PiSonomics means populist promises and not actually delivering.

Are you for real? Do you expect to obtain the right to vote in a country of your residence without securing citizenship of that country? Am I right to assume you are not taking any medication?

Actually, there are murmurings that the EU will move towards allowing EU citizens the right to vote in all elections in the country that they are resident in.

News / Poland Parliamentary elections 2015 [1060]

PiS leader Kaczyński said on Sunday that if PiS win you can expect peace, calm and a plan for Poland.

Highly unlikely given his history.

He also said Poland needs housing within the reach of the average Pole. It should not cost more than 2,500 zł per square metre

More populism. Such prices are picked out of thin air, and such a promise has no chance of being honoured. The price in £ódź alone is over 3,500zl/m2 - and this is in an economically depressed area. Even in places such as Nowy Sącz, you're looking at around 3,000-3,200zł/m2.

and can be rented on a hire-purchase basis whereby the rent would count like instalments so after 30 years it would become the tenant's property.

Which means more debt for the government, as the government also has to take all the risk.

What would make much more sense is for a law to be passed prohibiting municipal authorities from renting bigger flats than required, with spot checks to make sure that it's still the case. This would help to ease the housing problems, as old people would no longer be allowed to take up large municipal apartments in prime locations.

But PiS couldn't do it, because they depend on old people voting for them.

More proof that PiS have the welfare of Poland's little man at heart.

Not really. PiS will promise the moon to everyone, as it's been their sole electoral strategy since 2007. More to the point - PO already have been helping "the little man" obtain housing through the MdM programme. Do try and keep up.

disappointed PO voters will stay home. As I said, I know quite a few who stopped voting in May.

I'm not so sure they will - if you use May as a barometer, then the turnout was almost identical in the 2nd round compared to 2010. Duda won those voters rather than the PO voters staying at home - but that was almost certainly down to the fact that he engaged the voters much more than Komorowski did. PiS as a party haven't performed anywhere near as well.

Spread this straw poll across Poland and PO have no chance.

The thing is that the turnout doesn't look to be any less, and I can't imagine PO voters going near PiS/Kukiz/Korwin.

To me, the most likely scenario right now is that PiS will fall just short - and Kaczyński will spend 4 years claiming that the election was rigged.

News / Kaczyński slams "political correctness" plague in Poland [85]

Freedom is a part of our identity, our Polishness," he emphasised.

So why is Kaczyńśki proposing essentially state control over all aspect of our lives? It reminds me of the PZPR propaganda.

She refused to do her job. It was not her job to write legislation.

As we all remember, PiS were very fond of punishing people that refused to do their job.

My life won't change either as I don't live in Poland but it doesn't mean I can not do something good for my old home land and help removing the worst government Poland has ever had that has been destroying this country for the last 8 years.

So in other words, you're voting based on nothing but things that you've read on the internet.

Anyway, do vote for Kukiz. The dream scenario right now is for PiS to need Kukiz's votes - which will almost guarantee screw-up after screw-up in the Sejm. Meanwhile, PO will sit back and win early elections comfortably.

Life / Your Polish friends - why do you regard them as such? [41]

Poles "do a lot of hours" on the job but very little work, at least in Poland.

Indeed. Try getting anything from a Polish person from around December 19th-January 10th or during July/August - it's an absolute waste of time. Then we get the incredibly unprofessional "don't know, send an e-mail" attitude on the phone from many businesses. And let's not forget about the fact that many people don't even try and sell products - I've been to one trade fair today, and the utter lack of interest from people working on stands is unbelievable.

Anyway, that same laziness makes them great friends, because they always have plenty of energy for doing things :D
