Life / Pakistani Muslim studying at the Medical University of Lodz (racism, safety, etc) HELP [23]

I didnt saw the part where you said that you use beard and islamic clothes.

He isn't talking about islamic clothes, he's talking about designer clothes. That means he's wearing expensive clothes (which is normal in the Pakistani community among young British Pakistanis). I don't think he'll stand out at all in this case, except that he'll look better dressed than the average Polish brute.

News / Poland's election winning party: PIS proclamations [229]

Yes, he was clearly expecting to play kingmaker in the Sejm, but then found himself outside of that.

If history is anything to go by, I think we can expect Kaczyński to become Prime Minister by this time next year, some PiS parliamentarians to leave (possibly Gowin's grouping) and Kukiz with a few others will join PiS to keep their majority. His core electorate will be furious, and he'll be gone in 4 years.

News / Poland's election winning party: PIS proclamations [229]

Winnicki has said he is sticking with Kukiz amid rumours his group may go over to PiS.

Winnicki won't stay for long with Kukiz, although you have to wonder whether or not Kaczyński would be stupid enough to accept them into PiS. Doing so would give them a stronger majority, but completely at the expense

Just a small titbit - 2015's budget called for spending of around 343 billion złoty. The 500zł per child (that isn't really 500zł per child at all) will cost 22 billion - so it's a huge part of the budget, and it's completely unfunded.

Law / American travelling to a non-Schengen country while still waiting for TEMPORARY residence card in Poland [20]

Can I go to Germany ( or a Schengen territory) or does it have to be a NON Schengen territory?

Essentially, the 90 day clock will begin on the day after your visa expires. You don't need a stamp at the border - the visa in your passport will prove when the Schengen 90 day tourist clock started. So you're free to go to Germany (for instance) as long as you're legally in Schengen. As long as you remember that the rules for Poland and Schengen are different, you're fine - the only crucial thing is that your Schengen clock will keep ticking as long as you're in Poland. So as long as you don't go to Germany/other Schengen state after the 90 day Schengen clock expires, there's absolutely no problem.

The residence place told me that I can go to Berlin for example get proof that I was there, then come back to Poland

Exactly. There's no real need to leave - it makes the paperwork easier, but you don't have to go as you already have the stamp anyway.

The real problem lies when you have the stamp in your passport, but you enter Schengen via a different Schengen country (not Poland) and the 90 day clock has already expired/you need a visa. But in your case, it's a non-issue, so don't worry about it. And ignore mcm1, he obviously doesn't understand/know how Schengen law works in this case.

Law / American travelling to a non-Schengen country while still waiting for TEMPORARY residence card in Poland [20]

Once again it is YOU who is missing the point.

I refer you to the original post.

Does anyone know if you can re-enter Poland with an expired ... I have an American passport.PLEASE HELP.

My point stands.

The issues are nothing to do with Polish immigration either leaving or re entering Poland.

I suggest some comprehension lessons. The issue is entirely related as to whether he can re-enter Poland after his trip abroad.

Post 6 is entirely relevant depending on which country in January 2016 is being visited.

It absolutely isn't. The only thing that the other country will check is whether he can legally enter Poland upon arrival. He can (as he holds an American passport and thus has 90 days visa-free regardless of the stamp in his passport). Therefore, it's a non-issue.

Let me leave it at that and my 35+ years of experience doing my job.

If you work for the UK Border Force, then it's no surprise that you haven't got a clue about how Schengen works.

Why does it matter what country i am visiting? The country I am going to does need me to get a visa for entry.

Ignore him. It's absolutely irrelevant.

Basically, once your student visa expires, you have 90 days in Schengen "visa-free". The clock will stop when you leave, and re-start when you enter. After you go over 90 days in Schengen (in a 180 day period), you won't be able to visit other Schengen countries while waiting for your temporary residence card, but your Polish clock stays on Day 1 as you've already applied for the residence card.

In short, you're free to come and go.

I really have no wish to elaborate much more, as usual you can have the last say.

If you failed to notice...

I have an American passport.

Then there's no hope for you.

P.S. you did notice which country his passport was issued from?

Indeed I did. American passport holders aren't required to hold a visa to enter Poland for up to 90 days stay. The stamp in the passport overrides the requirement to leave within 90 days. The only issue is that he will have 90 days in the entire Schengen zone upon re-entry - after those 90 days expire, he'll be restricted to Poland and non-Schengen countries only.

To dd92......take as much documentation as you have to allow exiting the non EU country as painless as can be.

There's no need. He's American, so they won't even look at anything beyond the passport cover.

If you came before myself at immigration I would ask you a few relevant questions.

Polish border guards will look solely at two things - the passport and the stamp that says that he's waiting for a decision. Nothing else.

News / Don't read "Gazeta Wyborcza" Polish newspaper -- wPolityce.pl [83]

Representatives of intellectual leftishness are enemies of their own country and direct all their effort into turning the nation against their own tradition - says news portal wPolityce.pl.

Reminds me of Putin's Russia. They accuse everyone else of being enemies of Russia and turning everyone against Russian traditions.

I have never thought that, in fact I think Winnicki can influence Kukiz.

He might well do. I'm quite interested in how this whole Kukiz-Winnick dynamic will play out.

My gut feeling is that Kukiz will end up in some very public rows with Winnicki, possibly even as early as the 11th November if it gets out of control again.

News / Roman Polanski accused of unlawful sex with a minor [403]

PiS have always been rather clear that they regarded the legal system as something that should serve the needs of the government. I found a fascinating document a while back from 2007 in which the prosecutors openly protested against the government's interference in their affairs.

As for Ziobro, had Polanski been a strong Polish Catholic, we wouldn't have heard a word about him.

History / How come Polonization never works? [87]

Poland never cared of polonization of areas its controlled. didnt even tried to convert them into Catholicism.

Hahahaa. Good try Gregy, but the reality was that Poland very much did care about it in the II RP.

i actually doubt hes polish.he lack basic history knowledge, probably pretend to be polish so he can insult us

It's just that Levi guy again. He has a ridiculous amount of trolls on here who either love or hate Poland. There's some very obvious linguistical mistakes that he makes that aren't characteristic of Polish native speakers.

Either way, he's a troll.

History / How come Polonization never works? [87]

Polonius, was the PGR concept a total failure, or did it work with any particular kind of farming?

The Polish resistance to collectivisation was quite commendable, but it seems that huge problems were caused later by people subdividing already relatively small plots (<10ha) among family members. I was reading something a while ago about the rise of "Rural Solidarność" - and how many of their members were living in poverty because their holdings were just too small.

But for what it's worth, I really don't perceive the Czech Republic or Slovakia to be richer than Poland. There's two fantastic examples that I'm aware of - Kudowa-Zdrój/Nachod and Cieszyn/Cesky Tesin. The Polish side in both cases is far, far, far nicer than the Czech. In Cieszyn for example - the Polish side is full of life every day of the week, while the Czech side is economically dead and seems to exist only on selling non-vodka products to Poles. Same story in Kudowa - which is a very nice place, but the Czech side is terrible.

History / How come Polonization never works? [87]

That's very interesting - I didn't know they did that!

Czech Republic is much stronger than we are. Even Slovaks come to Poland for cheap beer.

Uh...the Czech Republic most certainly isn't stronger than Poland. Neither is Slovakia.

Bratislava and Warsaw are comparable, but Poland has nothing comparable to the crushing poverty of Eastern Slovakia. The Czech Republic is badly governed and has been for years - the only thing that keeps it richer (just) than Poland was the success of collective farming there. If Poland had done the same thing, the country would be far richer these days.

News / Poland's election winning party: PIS proclamations [229]

So you're laughing at yourself that you read rags like "gazeta wybiórcza"? Always a good reason.

I'm more amused that you think that Winnicki can be controlled by Kukiz ;)

Jako "zupełne plotki" określił spekulacje na temat przejścia do PiS prezes Ruchu Narodowego Robert Winnicki.

Give it a few weeks.

a few more get thrown out for not being sufficiently loyal to the Dear Leader Kaczynski

Let's not forget that Gowin is already making statements that run contrary to the official line.

HAHAHA. I've just read that Winnicki (leader of Ruch Narodowy, also known as a far-right extremist) is planning to move to PiS from Kukiz even before the first sitting of the Sejm.

You couldn't make this stuff up :D

Work / What is deducted from a salary in Poland apart from Income tax? [155]

Now i have been told that the rent of the apartment will have to be included in the yearly income and i will pay much more taxes and earn less salary because of this.

Essentially, it's a taxable benefit. They are paying your rent in lieu of extra salary, but the tax office sees it all as income on your part. You should ask your company to give you a pay increase to cover the extra taxes owed.

News / Poland Parliamentary elections 2015 [1060]

Polonius, if your beloved Polonia stopped sending charity to poor relations and came and contributed with their brains and their brawn, Poland would develop faster.

I think it's worth pointing out that the "poor" relations are often living in very nice places these days. The perception is still that Poland is a very poor country, but anyone looking on Google Street View can see how nice many farming villages actually are.

For instance - google.pl/maps/@49.5239812,18.8570921,3a,75y,123.36h,80.8t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1s2r6Jwj3UUqkxOOzLuZgJDw!2e0!7i13312!8i6656!6m1!1e1?hl=en

News / Poland Parliamentary elections 2015 [1060]

:D

Funny you should say that though - they want to re-run the 2014 local elections. In other words, they know that they're going to be faced with very hostile local administrations in places such as Poznań and Warsaw - so they want to try and put their people in power off the back of this win.

And people believe that they stand for democracy?

"Confirm" all you want. Tri-City and Opole region were the only areas to vote for economic progress. That tells us all we need to know. And for your next fantasy?

Poznań too. Nearly 50% of the vote went to PO/Nowoczesna. Kukiz/PiS/Korwin only managed around 33%.

Yeah - this is why the Polish countryside is covered with stupidly sized villas, where nobody lives, but which are minded by some poor villager for peanuts, which were built (often illegally) as an "investment."

It's especially common in Beskidy :( The Czech side is beautiful, but the Polish side has been completely ruined.

Or rather the fact that they're pretty disconnected from Poland. They also couldn't care less about what happens to Poland, as witnessed by their "patriotic" abandoning of Poland in times of need.

UK, Ireland / Sugar tax in the UK. Polish friends addicted? [55]

Agreed. Like you I was always outdoors as a child. Today kids don't get anywhere near the amount of exercise past generations did.

They're actively discouraged in many cases, too. I can't go into details, but I've seen a lot of examples over the past years on how kids are strongly discouraged from actually doing anything that might resemble exercise if it's not in a very controlled environment.

News / Poland's election winning party: PIS proclamations [229]

There's a good argument to create one for Warsaw, as Mazowsze is quite poor outside of the Warsaw area - so they have problems as the voivodship is "wealthy", even though the wealth is mostly concentrated in Warsaw. But then again, Warsaw pays for a lot of things that make Mazowsze a better place - such as their railway company.

The rest - there's absolutely no sense, and it's just Kaczyński playing the populist line yet again. Koszalin only has 100,000 people living there and was never any sort of administrative centre.

Worth pointing out that it was (like most of PiS policies) a feature of the PRL to have endless voivodships.
