News / Polish Independence Day March in Warsaw. Is it going to be the biggest march yet? [1530]

It hasn't been said but the independence Day in Poland is kind of the 4th of July in the USA.

Now how would you know that? Instead, the facts are that Poles are in the huge majority very subdued and serious on Independence Day.
Happy to correct you on that simple fact. But it wont stop you talking as if you actually know anything about present day life on the streets.

She was a smartie.

A madwoman, don't you mean? What would Eastern Germany be now if it were a separate state? Probably one of those suspect and dangerous mini-empires so well portrayed by John Buchan.

If they could mess with their athletes sexuality there's no limit to how low your countrymen would have stooped BB. And that's what Thatcher wanted. Divide and conquer. Nasty woman, and I'm delighted she lived to old age, to be constantly reminded of how hated she was.

Hope you enjoyed your day out

Doubled. Processions and marches are not my thing, but it's good that this one seems to have passed off without making the news for the wrong reasons. Thank God that's over and we can all get back to normal.

The Christmas season is coming and just maybe we can all have some fun instead of this wearing seriousness.

How many

Are you feeling alright Vladimir? Wot are you on about? Racist banners as they were paraded last year are illegal under race discrimination laws, and you know it.

In the US, such banners start a riot. In Western Europe they don't exist. Or would start mass riots. You don't live here, and you think this sort of behaviour should be tolerated? It's none of your business.

Now go down to the Moscow river and raise one finger.

Now it's a time to celebrate it without having to think about politics

Thank you for your report Mr G. Poles politicise it. The media reports. It should be one big party, but you are determined to be serious and miserable. Because "It's our tradition!"

(Head banging smiley) Poland can be so ******* depressing to live in, even after 27 years.

Poles aren`t pussies.

It's as Maf says. They look after their own. Which is why they love Margaret Thatcher so much. No real sense of community, because it was beaten out of them, but in the future young Poles will learn to CELEBRATE their Independence Day. It needs this communist and old generation to die out for people to start having fun again.

It was a huge march, flags everywhere I walked

And the hate slogans Mr Grunwald? And the racist banners? And the flares? Listening to more Chopin. His music is proud - the marches are xen ophobic and lame.

And, Dougpol1, your provocations are very primitive. I am surprised.

Look Crow. I know something of Serbia. I went out with a girl from Belgrade once upon a time and I loved her like I was going insane.. You guys are nationalistic, and crazy:) Poles are different, more of a mix . Sorry to break the obvious to you.

@Ironside
Right.....I find that hard to believe. If Polish polling was false, even though it is taken as an indicator in elections, then it would have been flagged.

The same polling is obviously used here. Going by your theories, referendums mean nothing.
In the case of the UK and Brexit, I wish they weren't.
I suggest you learn some respect Crow. You are a ******* nutcase.

A meaningless statement unless you define the terms

Of course. but the angry spirit was there:) I suggested a definition in a previous post. Patriotism wins, but then, some of my pals aren't patriotic in the slightest, and always moan when they come back from their business trips/hols how backward Poland. That does annoy.

On this great day for Poland - where I see NO Pole drinking champagne (..shakes head in bafflement....) The French president was left to say it all.

"Patriotism is the opposite of nationalism."
Now, let's see the police uphold the law and limit those nationalist thugs to the backstreets, otherwise we will again be seeing ugly headlines tomorrow, on what should be a champagne day for the country.

For example, is waving a Polish flag "fascism"?

Don't be facile "Rich". Flares and racist chants, racist banners and aggression are. Anywhere in western Europe the police would give them a battering, which is what they deserve.

You don't want to be in Warsaw tomorrow. You are actually glad you're not. Like in my car crash picture, people will be wringing their hands and saying, "How did 'Robert' get his teeth smashed in.."

Or worse. Let's pray nobody is killed.

Travel / So I went to Warsaw - my thoughts after visiting Poland [88]

Traditional Polish car park driving,

The weird thing was, the car was bumbling along at a sort of OK speed, and another shot of his parking space, and broadsided him, as you can see in the pic. All so avoidable - another instance of zero care and respect for other users. Here's another pic.

More evidence of the standard of driving in Poland. This piece of stupidity even had the dog shaking his head. I felt sorry for the guy driving his car. Broadsided at 20 km an hour and it toppled. Avoid these 100,000 zl plus "4 by 4s" - they're just ....shite. His roof was crushed and he was lucky to get out with only bruising.

PS Can anybody identify the car model? In reflection it is a cheapo? The roof was partially crushed and the lad on the right was lucky not to be topped.

So let's focus on facts

"The US Embassy in Warsaw has issued a security alert advising citizens to avoid the march route". (The Guardian)
So what we have Spike, is a situation - as those of us on the ground here have been saying, that we have a mob march which has been allowed to grow for the last 10 years, which has been hijacked by low life scum, and you defend it?

Do tell us what would happen if you marched with racist banners and flares in Blackpool or Middlesborough? But strangely, you support yobs doing so here? I take issue with Dolno that it is the odd loser behaving in this way....more like in the thousands, and these crims deserve prison time for inciting racial hatred.

If Poland was the laughing stock of Europe 10 years ago for jailing village alcoholics for riding their cycles while drunk (illegally imprisoning them IMO), then they bloody well should have no problems in giving these "hard" men a taste of their own medicine.

commie thug Dough, he is such low IQ

Not a commie. I don't want government interfering in my life. PIS voters are the commies. They want it served up on a plate for them. I work, and pay my taxes. Glad to clear that up for you.

As for IQ, mine are average? Yours? And while you're domiciled in Norway, earning a Norwegian salary, the rest of us are keeping the home fires burning and fighting the good fight.

That's wasted on you - because you could care less about your country.

If someone say there is they are either progressives which is beyond pale, ignorant or simply stupid bigots.

So, 78 percent of Poles, who hate these marches, are the above, according to you? Shocking assertion. What an insult to Poles everywhere ( the 78 percent) YBut oif course, you wouldn't really know the truth of the matter, seeing as you are a plastic Pole after all.

the march has always been arranged by the people and for the people

It has been arranged by that right wing mob, as per Delphs' posts. And the history of the last two years tells us that it cannot be allowed to stand. Do you really want your country called into disrepute by 2 percent of the population?

I don't. Where it happens in Britain, and the minority try to hijack our democracy, these people go to prison, whether they be that (white) Robinson bloke, or that (black) Al Hansa bloke.

Why are 40 percent of Warsaw's policemen on sick leave? Obviously because the budget and 500 plus dictates that they are not paid properly. There should be a general strike to force the governments' hand, the result being that in future policemen are properly paid, and those who do not fulfill their civic duty are fired. There are plenty of worse jobs than being a policeman - maybe Poland tries to copy the American model, where the policeman is your "buddy", as "Our Jacek's a policeman...."

In the UK, they are untouchables. Nobody speaks to them. They have their "own" pubs, their own circle. Nobody wants to associate with a copper, for obvious reason. They are never off duty. So they are paid subsidies according to their "pariah" status.

Only then, when it is "us and them" meaning the public separated from the police, can we have a real state where the police act as a buffer between factions. It's so bloody obvious from the outside - but then again America is ****** up, so it's no surprise that Poland is as well:(

Until then, we have a dangerous situation, like on Sunday - where all these policemen are running scared. And I don't blame them. Why should they do the courts' dirty work for them?

someone wants nothing to do with people from another country

Millions of Poles are very happy to have "something to do" with people from another country, when they live in that country and reap the benefits. Time for the small minority to be ignored, and legislated against.

Racist scum. It really IS that simple. And under EU law, clearly actionable.

but stats prove nothing.

Yes - they do. As Mafs' post states. Poles don't want these illiterate hooligans busting up their neighbourhood on their stupid "marches. In fact they should go out of their homes and fight them.

enslaves you

Are you on the sauce Dolno? Nobody is enslaving anybody. Or rather, these villagers are enslaving Warsaw residents for the day - who have to leave their homes for the day for some peace and quiet. this is BANG out of order.

Now it's not. If done randomly, it is a scientifically accepted sample. Using a sample of 5,000 and respondents only adds to the cost of such a survey and does not appreciably reduce error.

It's 40 years since I was studying, but I am sure you are aware of the above as statistical fact.

Dirk, flares and racist chanting would lead to riots in America. Why would Poland be any different?
People have said enough is enough. This is a turning point against Poland's nationalist scum.
The debate is typical Polish politics. Why don't they debate poverty, or the pathetic state of Polish towns throughout the land?
Populism.
Wankers.
