Law / Benefit entitlement in Poland for foreigners [37]

Wouldn't they just be handed a plane ticket to the UK?

Doubtful. I'd imagine they just get a bit of cardboard with the word "Anglia" on it and some advice about how to hitchhike in Poland.

Although they might be offered a seat on the plane which the British government hires every two weeks to return to Poland people who Poland has issued an EAW for, given that it pretty much always goes back empty.

History / Did British public protest against the sell out of Poland to the Soviets? [286]

MyMom
Why is it that 99,9% of Brits with any interest in WWII history understand and are ashamed of what British and USA governments did to Poland at Teheran, Yalta and Potsdam, but you alone act like a mixture of an idiot and anti-polish scumbag?

And thank you for your helpful contribution to the discussion. Perhaps you could be the one to explain why securing for Poland both the promises of free and fair elections and the movement of Poland's western borders to those first proposed by the Polish leader of the time is something which the British should be ashamed of?

MyMom
nobody is buying your lies

Do feel free to do what everybody else is also unable to do, i.e. to point out the lies which you constantly accuse me of telling. I'm quite happy to point yours out.

'civilization' might also include the installation of more public toilets.

I don't know about Wroclaw but in Warsaw there are plenty of toilets which the public can use if they ask nicely (e.g. bars, restaurants, cinemas, etc).

once again Harry is proving himself to be nothing more than a sly swine !

Thank you for your insightful contribution to the debate. I would ask if you have anything better to contribute, but let's face it: you don't.

Or perhaps you can do what all the other posters have failed to do and detail the supposed 'sell out' which saw Britain secure the promise of democratic elections which Poles never bothered to exercise and the promise of free accommodation which some Poles still exercise?

It's not heathly to suppress bodily functions. What a bunch of uptight prigs you are to complain about this.

So you see nothing wrong with the drunk guys I see taking a leak right outside the primary school I walk past on my way to work? To you there is nothing wrong with little kids having to walk past grown men exposing themselves?!

Oh please, twice I’ve pointed out to your own quote which was undeniable yet you still tried to wiggle out of it so what’s the point, you know your truth I know my. Although in all fairness most of the time it’s a half truth that you twist around which makes it that much worst to a casual reader as he doesn’t know any better.

For the third time of asking: could you be so kind as to quote the lies which you accuse me of telling. Either that or just admit that your accusation is nothing more than a lie.

ShortHairThug
Show me one Polish official representative at that conference be it of the free Polish government in exile or even one that the Soviets would have a decency to put up as a stooge and we’ll talk.

How does Polish presence at the conference in any way affect the promises which were won for Poland (i.e. free and fair elections and the movement of Poland's western borders to those first proposed by the Polish leader of the time) in any way at all? That's right, it does not affect the promises at all.

ShortHairThug
Of course the peasants’ with primary education were too stupid to do just that yet they managed to outfox the best and brightest that the British had to offer

Perhaps the best and the brightest that Britain had to offer believed in the image that many Poles like to give: Poles never collaborate with enemies of Poland. Pity that so many Poles proved the British wrong by collaborating with the Soviets and carrying out Stalin's order that the free elections would not be carried out for 45 years.

ShortHairThug
Here we go, so much for the intelligent conversation on your part. Whatever delusions on my part there might have been surely I have none now.

More than a hundred thousand Poles were captured by the western allies alone whilst in the service of the German armed forces. Sorry about that inconvenient little fact.

You on the other hand obviously have no interest in other Brits coming to Poland because every one of them is a competition for you.

Thanks for the good laugh! Sadly for you, the work which I do is still much in demand and the number of people with the correct skill set and experience is still far below the demand for us. That isn't changing any time soon.

And despite what the article says, I'm certainly seeing fewer Brits in Warsaw than ten years ago.

Where should I start I wonder, there’s so many.

Start with any one you like. Provided, of course, that you are not actually lying about their existence (which we both know you are).

ShortHairThug
You hold what’s viewed as my ungratefulness in your eyes against me, I on the other hand 44 years of hell you prepared for us.

Yes, communism was entirely the fault of the British and not at all the fault of the Soviets or any Poles. What planet do you live on?

ShortHairThug
What could you get?

You tell us, you are the one claiming that Britain took part in the dividing of the spoils.

ShortHairThug
By that time you were washouts and losers

But still you blame the British for not fighting to stop the Soviets having their way with Poland. Nice to see you being consistent in your delusions.

ShortHairThug
you kept your freedom, something you have denied others at Yalta.

No matter how many times you lie, the Yalta agreement still says what it says: free and fair elections for Poland. Elections which Poles then prevented from taking place.

ShortHairThug
I guess that’s your way of expressing your eternal gratitude that you ask and expect of me.

Yes I should be grateful that at least a hundred thousand Poles fought in the ranks of the Nazi armed forces.

For once I would really like to see you taking your own advice which would be nice and refreshing Harry.

Could you be so kind as to quote the lies which you accuse me of telling. Many thanks in advance.

ShortHairThug
Ironically your self-appointment to represent Polish interests in those negotiations puts you in the position of sole custodians thus making you solely responsible for what had happened afterwards and that’s no lie.

So it is the British who are to blame for the Poles failing to hold the free and fair elections which they had been promised? Interesting approach.

ShortHairThug
When you stop meddling in the affairs of others

People like you sometimes make me wish that Britain hadn’t bothered signing the Anglo-Polish treaty: you have so much gratitude for the millions of Britain who fought in a war that was declared over Poland.

ShortHairThug
Simple as can be, three powers diving up the spoils of war.

So what did Britain get as spoils of the war, other, of course, than a huge debt which wasn’t repaid until 2006 and hundreds of thousands of Poles, some of whom until this day live in accommodation paid for by the British taxpayer?

I find it highly unlikely you can tell people what they can do in their own time and with their own money.

Become the public spokesman for both the Polish Union of Satanists and the Polish Man/Boy Love Association, make sure you appear on TV very often (and remember to thank your employer by name for their tolerance of your views) and then see how much longer you work there.

Harry nothing is clear here. Life is not a series of tick boxes.

Many things here are crystal clear. But you can't admit that because then you'd have to back down even further and you don't want to have to do that, most certainly not when you're being forced by me.

Context in language as in life is everything Harry, it’s not black and white it’s not a series of tick boxes. But do feel free to selectively parse.

The full quote is "I'll post what I want when I want, put me on ignore it's not that difficult." But you claim that that is a statement of ability and not an instruction or command. How stupid do you expect your readers to be?

Perhaps if you were less of a hypocritical prat, you wouldn't so often find yourself having to claim that black is white and white is black.

Lets all judge this man without knowing anything about him or his relationships.

Perhaps you can list the situations in which it is appropriate for a man to cheat on the wife who clearly considers that their relationship still is one of man and wife?

Barney
Harry, I said he can ignore me not must ignore me or have to ignore me.

No, you used the imperative, "put me on ignore". The imperative is used for instructions, not for statements of ability. But do feel free to keep wriggling.

History / Did British public protest against the sell out of Poland to the Soviets? [286]

Ozi Dan
The more relevant back stab was, in my view, the failure of HMG to tell Poland about the critical issues materialising out of Teheran, not to mention HMG’s craven acquiescence to Stalin. The backstab is even more serious because it was in breach, and in contempt, of HMG’s obligation to tell Poland (per Art. 5 of the Treaty) of any development that would threaten Poland’s independence.

Why can't you learn that a lie constantly repeated does not become the truth: instead it simply is repeatedly exposed as a lie so that more and more people know that it is a lie.

Could you please be so kind as to quote the parts of the relevant agreements which show that, given that the British and Americans had secured a promise from Stalin that there would be a Polish state and that there would be free and fair elections in Poland open to all parties other than the fascists, Poland’s independence was threatened. Either that or stop telling your latest pathetic lie.

Ozi Dan
Consequently, Poland was unaware that it was to be subject to significant and prejudicial changes to its borders and socio political makeup after the dust settled on WW2.

Which allied leader first proposed moving Poland’s borders to their current western location? Oh yes, it was General Władysław Sikorski. But in your world Poland was unaware that her borders would change.

Ozi Dan
when Anders sought release of Polish forces to fight their way back home

‘Excuse me but we’d like to go start WWIII. Is that alright with you?’

Ozi Dan
The story of HMG’s treachery toward Poland in WW2 is that simple.

Actually it is far simpler, it is as simple as can be; after all, what can be simpler than something which does not exist?

we consider him a self employed consultant.

Which does mean that he can now ding your staff to his heart's content as your staff code of conduct doesn't apply to him. Did that occur to you?

Barney
Nothing hypocritical about that Harry, if He doesn’t like a statement he can ignore it or me.

Interesting that you consider yourself free to say whatever you want and people will have to ignore you but when I say whatever I want you start a thread titled "Harry the cuunt" and make statements such as "Harry fcuk off and stop harassing people." Perhaps you would like to look up the meaning of hypocritical and then reassess your statement.

News / SPECIAL REPORT: The Brits who left the UK for a life in Poland [28]

Utterly crap article about Brits who moved to Poland

Dire, truly dire. Even by the standards of the Daily Fail.
dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2043562/SPECIAL-REPORT-The-Brits-left-UK-life-Poland.html

Once there, they find the only economy in Europe not to have fallen into recession during the credit crunch, a business culture open to fresh ideas and inward investment, a society that places a premium on family values, a lower cost of living - and, in the case of thousands of British males, a female population they seem to find irresistible.

You have to wonder if the 'journalist' has even been to Poland.

you could buy a million zlots for 38 quid in 1993

It was a bit over £25 when I got to Poland two years later. I still have my first million.

grubas
what does it have to do with currency exchange?

It proves that, as we have been trying to tell you, as late as 1999 there were men in black leather jackets hanging round in touristy areas exchanging money.

Personally I found that as long as one was on one's toes and changed fairly small amounts, you could get better rates from such gentlemen (not surprising given that their overheads were limited to a leather(ish) jacket every decade and much of their profit margin came from the less than careful).

Either 2 (more probably) or perhaps 4. You don't want to start firing people unless you really need to (hassle and expense).

Although you may wish to consider letting your new guy know that if he ever again dips his pen in the company ink, getting fired will be a picnic compared to his wife divorcing him.

Real Estate / How to get my property back in Poland? I left 36 years ago. [59]

Check the facts before posting becuse already up to 1992 5000 kantors were opened in Poland.

I refer you to page 16 of the 1995 edition of the Rough Guide to Poland: there is a warning there regarding illicit money exchange transactions.

Alternatively, check the 1999 edition of the Lonely Planet guide to Poland, page 60 "Street moneychangers are slowly becoming an extinct species, but some still hang around touristy places. Give them a miss - most are con men. Particularly, beware of moneychangers in Gdansk."

Are you stupid or what?I just told you that since March 16th 1989 anyony could buy or sell any amount of USD in kantory.

Yawn. Clearly you are too retarded to understand the concept of 'getting more for your money by buying at a better rate'. Nevermind, go back to your illegal job as an illegal immigrant while you can: it's only a matter of time before you get caught and deported.

grubasAnd what are you talking about now???Huh?What better rate?Since march 16th 1989 anyone in Poland could buy as many USD as one wanted in kantory wymiany walut, so what better rate are you talking about?

It seems that you may be the one who has never been inside a Pewex store (did they not let peasants shop there?): one could, in theory, pay in several different currencies, including zloty; however the cheapest way to do it was to change your zloty to dollars as the local kantor (or man in leather jacket outside) would give you a better rate than Pewex would.

Pewex was still running in 1993 where you could buy luxury items but they would only accept US dollars

It was still running in 1995 but by then you could pay in zloty too. I remember seeing the sign for a Pewex shop in 1998/9 but I don't remember if the shop was actually operating then.

Law / What's the best way to transfer £20,000 into PLN [31]

There's a simple solution: arrange for the Kantor to meet you in the bank. There's also a nice trick you can play with the bank to get a better rate than the kantor is offering.
