Love / How many Polish men are Violent how much is domestic abuse reported. [129]

Are there any laws in Poland that make it mandatory to report kids being abused?

It's one thing reporting abuse, it's another getting a court to do anything about it. From my experience the court wants prima faci evidence and if they don't get it they will do nothing. Again from experience this is dealt with by the family court and one court will do something and one will not. There is no consensous. Young judges possibly the problem. Erring on the side of caution but not the right side. Unfortunately any appeal process to a higher court will take 3 months. Here you will get an older more experienced judge who will look at things more thoroughly and likely put the interests of the child first.

As an example of how long things take in Poland, if International Social Services contacts the Polish equivelant, they do not expect a reply for 6 months. Thats 12.5% of a four year olds life.

The current Kurator system is laughable.

Life / Why is Polish Christmas on the 24th? [87]

Christmas Eve

Ah! so it's her terminoly thats incorrect. Christmas day is still the 25th then.

What is the relationship between giving gifts and christmas eve then? I am not relgious but assumed the gifts were something to do with the three kings.

I am only asking out of interest as I do not want to start a religous debate.

UK, Ireland / Legal aid eligibility for a Polish woman (British father child support) [17]

Good luck on the legal aid. It takes months if you are a decent, non criminal human being. If you are a crim it's instant almost. What they actually do is play it out to the point that you either stump up yourself or give up all hope. That's my partners experience anyway.

Life / School starting age in Poland [4]

most important to me is that my kids learn to read well, enjoy it and maintain the habits for a lifetime

I couldn't agree more with this.

writing in cursev is learned first

I guess it is so they get into the habit and not the habit of printing.

I think we are the opposite way around to you as we have one 5 year old in reception and a 7 year old in Year 3 in England. No problem for the younger one but a very steep hill to climb for the older one.

Is the percentage of children going to Zerowka high or low?

Life / School starting age in Poland [4]

My partner and I are having a discussion about school starting ages. She believes the starting age in Poland is 7yrs old although there was a move to 6 years old but this has been recinded. Is this correct?

I am personally interested in peoples opinions on school starting age and the benefits of starting early or the negative effects of the same.

Love / Married in Poland, now wanting divorce, does she have rights to half my earnings? [67]

English women have their faults but man hating isn't one of them. Polish and English women ... no comparison!

I do actually have a deal of experience with both varieties and I have to say the English ones are easier to understand but far more devious. The Polish ones get found out faster. The English ones may have had more practise :)

Love / How many Polish men are Violent how much is domestic abuse reported. [129]

I think the major difference is that people can speak more openly about these issues in the UK as a whole. Domestic violence figures are without doubt miss leading when you consider how many women use this as a ploy in divorce. The same happens in Poland. The fact is it is unlikely that "the truth" is unlikely to be available.

What can I do to change things in Poland. Nothing. It's up to you guys to stop sweeping it under the carpet. For me it's no crusade, I'm just bitter about your judicial system and the length of time it takes things to resolve, what are in fact, seriously damaging things for children. My cause is not noble, as I have no cause, and I am no activist, just a plain old Joe, shocked at your judiciary.

Love / How many Polish men are Violent how much is domestic abuse reported. [129]

I have had many discussions with lawyers in Poland on the issue of domestic violence. Most of them seemed to believe it is not taken seriously in Poland. Following a conversation with one lawyer, I would tend to believe this to be true.

He told me of a lawyer friend of his who married and then experienced physical violence. She went to court 3 times to try and protect herself. After the third attempt, the husband killed her. The judge who had heard all three cases said she should have made a stronger case. I would like to think this judge would err on the side of caution in the future, but who 's to know. Of course mistakes are made everywhere.

Beating children does appear to be acceptable by the majority in Poland. My partners child suffered the belt aged 5. Something I find difficult to reconcile, but conversations I have had with Polish men usually bring out, "its normal in Poland". I know the law changed in 2010 and an anti smacking law was introduced. It would be interesting to see how many convictions there have been since it's introduction. I think in Poland what happens behind closed doors stays behind closed doors which is why it is so suprising when children from a "a nice quiet family" get murdered along with their mother.

The 1965 Family and Guardianship Code, although forward thinking in some respects, really gave adults a get out of jail free card with respect to child abuse.

News / Greed rules the world; Czempinski (Poland's former Intelligence chief) arrested [21]

I have no doubt about that. I was only curious and found a different spelling. Thanks for the lesson.
Don't be so snappy.

What she actually meant was "AGGRO" unless she is much younger than I imagine and not learned to spell correctly like the younger generation of my country. Of course you can find a definition for 'AGRO' on the internet. The same as you will find many other miss spelt words. They are just there for the those unable to spell correctly. Damned liberals.

Love / Polish men calling polish girl for dating englishman [80]

violetta my polish girlfriend

I guess as an Englishman he doesn't know 'W' in Polish translates 'V' in English as I did'nt 7 years ago. Reading his post again, I see, as I saw the first time, it is not his problem, but he is showing concern for her and the abuse from her fellow countrymen. It's just a typical negative Polish reaction. A bit like asking a Pole how they are. Poles apart from asking the same question to an English person.

Law / Search Engine Optimisation in Poland - the same SEO rules apply? [7]

+ Location was irrelevant, traffic would come from Asia, Europe, America

It's totally relevent and a good proportion of your traffic will always come from the three locations mentioned. They are massive. In particular the Asians are making great use of the internet to search out potential customers. Just look at how google works now. Local this. Local that. In a way, unless you are a known International Brand, it is a bit like bricks and mortar, location, location and location. If you haven't signed up for Webmaster Tools do so.

+ SEO was irrelevant, I did not bother with keywords, I did not submit my site to any engine, I was too busy working on the content. Nevertheless, my site was soon indexed and it was quite highly rated.

Google hasn't used keywords in Meta tags for a long time. That kind of SEO died with the keyword stuffers. Remember the days you searched for chocalate and every site was a prn site. They killed keywords. True SEO will be gone in 5 years as Social Media sites will dictate search rankings which is why Google has invested heavily in +1.

+ Visitors coming from google search were usually random, one-time visitors, who mistook my site by something else, or who did not know how to precisely specify their search directive.

This can be converted to useful visitors by taking a look at your Meta Descriptions which is what appears below the link to your site in Googles results. Writing good landing pages with relevant content and good Description tags is critical.

+ Most, if not only, valuable traffic was coming via references from other, somewhat related, web pages

Thats exactly what I aim for but this takes time to evolve and relies on good content from your site. There are subtle ways of speeding this up but like anything to get a return you need to work hard and add a bit of lady luck.

Law / Search Engine Optimisation in Poland - the same SEO rules apply? [7]

And why .pl domains so damned expensive?

Something I have found highly beneficial with SEO is hosting location. For example I used 1and1.couk for a period of time assuming they were located in the UK. WRONG and they weren't very good either. When I moved my .co.uk sites to true UK hosting then my search engine rankings improved dramatically. I did research this first of course. I am guessing hosting in Poland would be on a par with quality UK Hosting as regards price. Expensive but worth it.

Love / Why do Polish girls think they are fat all the time? [42]

i know!!! polish women are so skinny! i have never seen any fat women here in warsaw! well to me "fat" woman is really someone fat!! i hear people saying "i am fat blah blah" i feel so soo sad because to me they are soo beautiful!=((

Go stand outside Mcdonalds and look at the younger ones. Fast food culture is making it's mark.

If you step back in time to the comunist era when food was in short supply and if you had dollars you could buy anything. If you didn't you struggled and could only look in the window of the American shop. The general population could not afford the likes of sweets and sweet things. They were a rare commodity and a treat. Now they are considered a necessity by some Polish Mothers who justify it because they never had.

The tide is turning and the European malaise is coming.

An Italian guy once told me "It's good to be seen with a skinny girl, but fat ones are more comfortable in bed." and "Skinny girls are like Ferrari's, High maintenance. Marry a fat one, you can afford the Ferrari and have all the skinny ones you like".

The second is problably true :)

Love / Concerns about Polish Family / Child Support Law [68]

She doesnt work and is responsible for bringing up our child, whenever i come home i find he is eating sweets or drinking drinks with extremely high sugar content.

A mother and her son. You cannot win this one by simply disagreeing. The fantasy father son bond does not exist in this situation. The hand that feeds the sweeties will win.

You really have a tough decision to make and before you make it I would review things like child maintenance decisions in your locality. Decisions appear to vary from town to town. You will of course be portrayed as an alcholic, wife and child abuser in court and she will also attempt to remove all parental responsabilty from you.

Better to try and educate her about food using an indirect approach. Do you remember the series in England that showed parents what their children would look like as they grew older with the food they were being fed. My ex wifes shopping srategies changed the following day. I am positive my children benefited enourmously from this, both educationaly and physically.

Personally I would try at all cost to keep this relationship together, especially if you don't fight all the time, as your child is too young to understand, and is easily manipulated. The child will believe what it is told.

There are some amazing decisions made my Polish Courts.

I met a Polish guy at an airport in the UK who had to take his daughter back to Poland every week to visit the mother. How could this child have a normal life with freinds etc. Unfair on the child and a punishment on the father for living in the UK.

A woman that worked for me earning £1200 after tax had to pay £900 for one child. As if loosing her child wasn't enough.

Another woman who worked for me had 1000zlt awarded to her and 3 months later this was reduced to 100zlt. Her ex husbands situation had not changed and he was a very high earner for a native.

I haven't heard of any good ones but then you are unlikely to on the internet.

Of course I will be attacked now and numerous misguided comments will follow. Its normal.

Real Estate / Banks in Poland selling fewer mortgages in 2011, down 49% [285]

That won't happen though, there's too much competition in Poland. For instance - you've now got Multibank/mBank, Credit Agricole, Deutsche Bank, PKO, Pekao, Santander, Millenium, ING and a hell of a lot more fighting it out - they simply can't afford to increase fees.

And you don't think they talk to each other ?

Real Estate / Banks in Poland selling fewer mortgages in 2011, down 49% [285]

but it won't collapse

How many times have we heard that drivel in the UK. What goes up must come down.

Seriously ask yourselves why lending has fallen? Could it be because the banks know something you don't want to contemplate. Problably!

It's like listenning to English estate agents. The closed doors protecting Polands economy will open and the inevitable will happen.

Life / Some Poles have fine houses [68]

I beg to differ - many of them are thrown up and built from cheap materials. The vast majority of post-1990 residential construction has been of appalling quality.

Something we can agree on.

If you are considering having something built, make sure you check the builders previous projects.

One place I looked at had cold water at both taps but the toilets flushed with hot water. And yes, people lived in the house like that.

What an English estate agent might call a "feature".

News / Multi-culti (in Poland) -- roadmap to disaster? [344]

Given that you did everything yourself in Poland, are you surprised that you had problems?

Ok here is an example for you so you understand what I'm getting at.

Firstly I spent over £5000 on legal advice in Poland in a two week period. Every penny was wasted because the lawyers we spoke too had no concept of Law outside of Poland and how international law overides Polish law. At that time I also had no concept of this.

Brussels II Bis (A convention signed by Poland) clearly states that if you are habitually resident in a country then you can start a divorce in that country. If you ask a Polish lawyer they will tell you it's impossible. In Poznan anyway.

Without checking back, I doubt I said everything in Poland as that would of been untrue. My work in Poland was to help our lawyer understand English Law and how International Law should be applied and is applied in other countries. Law is really not complicated but the language used often is. As you are more than likely aware, most of Polish law is based on the 1965 Family and Gaurdianship code. Much of which was forward thinking and much of which is outdated and aimed at keeping families together what ever the cost. The section on corporal punishment for children is quite shocking to western readers although this was updated in 2010 with an anti smacking law.

To put things into context for you, here is what happenned.

The childrens father brought them to England and on the same day beat his wife. (Regular Occurance in Poland)
She decided there and then the marraige was finished.
He agreed to leave the children in England.
Almost daily telephone conversations between father and children.
3 months later he visits children for 1 week.
Telephone conversations continue
Dec 2010 Children taken to Poland to visit Father
January 6th 2011 children were not returned and father dissapears for 3 days.
3 days later he contacts Police who do nothing as he has parental authority equal to the mothers.
Children are extremely distressed with the older child not speaking and banging his head against furniture and walls
Father thinks this is a romantic situation (deluded)
3 days later the older child is left with mother on condition she doesn't take him to a doctor
On advice from lawyer he is driven to Berlin and I bring them back to England.
Child is very distressed
Next day visit a Polish psychiatrist.
Don't believe what we hear. Both children are drugged for 3 days and on the first day one child had to be shaken to resusitate after father had held his hand over his mouth and the child had gone unconscious.

Psychiatrist confirms he believes its true as everything would be out of the childs experience and the conversation was totally natural.
Fly back to Poland with report in Polish and go to court 2 days later to try and get younger child back to safety.

Polish Court rejected all documents. This process took one and a half minutes. The judge was severely reprimanded by a higher court 3 months later

The Polish process to get out of this mess would take up to 2 years.

A little different to how we treat children in England

News / Multi-culti (in Poland) -- roadmap to disaster? [344]

Gotta love the way that he's complaining about foreigners despite being married to one himself.

Please read posts carefully and then you won't make silly mistakes. I'm not married.

I don't read the Daily Mail, I'm an Al Jazeera viewer. I prefer my news without a goverment slant on it. Britain for the British. I'm sorry again you are being a little slovenly. I am talking about being English not British. A subtle difference again.

Am I complaining about foreigners or is that a poor interpretation of what I have said? Tanslation never works well.

I freely admit I have issues with Poland, but these issues pertain to Polish justice and not polish people although arrogance and being rude are not the most endearing of Polish male traits. If you live with one, you learn to accept the rest.

Law / Is running a business in Poland very profitable? [33]

You're comparing apples and oranges - Sports World is a downmarket shop for chavs, whereas InterSport is a high-end sports clothing shop. Different countries will pitch products at different markets - for example, Zara is a downmarket brand in Spain, but a mid-class brand in Poland and the UK.

How can you say that is comparing apples with oranges. It's like for like.

Personally I would quite like to set up shop in Poland. I quite like the place really but I was advised it might not be safe to do so. As you say the Polish perception of some products is different to ours in the UK. If you were very selective on your products, I think there is huge potential in Poland. I spent pretty much the last six moths going back and forth to Poznan and having spent the 20 years buying and selling I don't miss much. The competition talked about exists mostly at the lower end of the market. The upper end looks to me likes it's controlled by a Cartel. I was researching shoes a month or so ago and one brand which was available in Warsaw only, was 600% higher in Warsaw than in it's native country. The brand escapes me now.

I would think with the growth in internet facilities (more people with computers so we don't light a fire) in Poland and peoples level of trust in Internet Commerce growing that these higher prices are not going to last forever. Things change.

He lives in a gritty ex-mining town council estate and is unemployed (and divorced from a Polish woman, from the looks of things) - no wonder he thinks so ;)

I'm happily divorced from an English women and happily living with a very attractive Polish women. We have two happy little ones. I have never been happier in my life. Oh how wrong you are!

Few English people? The last demographic data suggested that England was around 89% White English.

Have you been to Leicester, Bradford or London. I read 2 years ago that in 2012 Leciesters poulation would be in the greater majority, Asian. Notice I made no previous reference to blacks other than to the 'Racist' station master. Please point me in the direction of your data. It's interesting as I am here and what I see is a little different. Remember statistics can be made to suit your purpose and your reference to White English is in my opinion unlikely to be correct as is more likely to be white. A subtle but massive difference.

Law / Is running a business in Poland very profitable? [33]

Actually, Ant68 says he's unemployed. He is probably too lazy to walk out of his place to see any competition. Instead, he is ready to to sit at the computer typing rubbish about a £5 T Shirt in the UK that will cost you £40 in Poland.

Go to Sports World and check the prices. Then go to the big sports shop in Kings Cross in Poznan.

See for yourself.

Lazy. I think not. Sold a successful business in January. Spent most of the proceeds recovering two abused children from Poland. Did all the legal work UK side myself. Did most of the Polish legal work myself. In between times developed what is now a successful e-commerce site with 3000+ products. Currently developing a second site. I work like a Pole except I don't stop when I'm sick. I'm pretty busy really. Today I have a Jquery problem and I need to relieve some stress.

And if the price difference is so massive, why haven't you already bought up lots of stock in the UK to sell on the Polish market?

Whose to say I haven't?

Check out what a childs bicycle costs in Poland and then the UK. The whole economy is fixed in Poland. Manufacturing is protected by low wages. The chinese are coming.

Why is there such a massive business in shipping secondhand clothes to Poland?

I did buy a few shoes in Poland. Difficult finding nice shoes in the UK.
