News / Poland Parliament elections in October 2011 [944]

"The State as a common good". Straight from the PZPR guidebook on "good communism", circa 1951.

They are flaming socialists in all but name, they should just come out and admit it. Sadly their voters do not know what socialism is.

It looks as though Platforma is haemorrhaging to Ruch Palikota, but on the actual day, I doubt that Palikot's supporters will actually turn out to vote. Hopefully the turn out is going to be somewhere in the mid-fifties.

Life / Do Polish parents let/encourage their kids to **** outdoors? [40]

their little ones to p*ss any where when they are out doors? Do other European parents do the whole routine where they whip down their child's trousers and such then prop their little legs up and let them fire off what ever they have to?

I understand that it is quite common in France, personally I haven't ever come across in Poland or France, and it is not common in Australia.

Law / Benefit entitlement in Poland for foreigners [37]

I just want to enjoy the country, culture and social life and improve my Polish language.

Are you having a laugh, based on all your other posts on this forum surely you hate Poland, don't you?

History / 1920 Battle of Warsaw - English trailer and film [55]

Hey champ, I think we'll have to wait for this to come out on Foxtel, or go with all the babcia's/busia's down to the Polish Club to watch it.

Bad luck i guess, if they did show it at the Polish club i am sure it would be worth seeing, even without 3D

no chance of a 3d release here but may be part of a film festival...katyn was part of the melbourne internationa film festival a few years back.

Too bad.

History / 1920 Battle of Warsaw - English trailer and film [55]

A Review of the film:-

A fantastic review indeed! This movie should be worth seeing, if only for the cinematography. This little excerpt caught my interest: Cinematographer Slawomir Idziak (who shot Harry Potter And The Order of the Phoenix, and was Oscar-nominated for his work on Black Hawk Down) uses 3-D effectively.

Apparently there is something in it for all those folks with a little penchant for bloodlust. Although I still question whether Szyc should have been the lead actor, personally i think he does not measure up.

History / Are Poles grateful to the Russians for winning the war? [120]

Would like to know your opinions...

No they are not, because Russia was Germany's ally, and they attacked Poland together in accordance with the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact. Ever heard of Katyn-why would anybody be grateful for that?

UK, Ireland / Culture shock (my neighbours in the UK are Polish and Slovak) [88]

'might I trouble you for a piece of paper', whereas in Polish you would say 'give me a piece of paper'

I don't ever recall coming across a Polish person who actually says 'give me a piece of paper', it's usually give me a piece of paper please (prosze), unless they are familiar with you they always ask.

No necessarily. If the wife/son in question have the skills, experience and qualifications to do the job, I see nothing wrong with it. It's even possible to argue that they should get the job over slightly better qualified candidates as the relationship the employer has with them is very much a known quantity and so there is no risk of personality clash (those tend not to come out during an interview).

I totally disagree, family members should not be employed as point of principle: that is the code of conduct in the UK and Australia, and I totally agree with it. Politics is not for those wanting to feather their own nests, it's about helping others not your family members.

I may be wrong but as far as I can gather an MP in Poland just receives money for the maintenance of his/her office including hiring of the stuff

Maybe, but it is public money. If she had owned a private business she could hire who the hell she wanted, but with public money it's a different matter for obvious reasons.

News / Poland Parliament elections in October 2011 [944]

hiring a son and his spouse in one's MP office is not nepotism in my view simple as that - the people hired by an MP are not on a state wage but are paid by the MP - go figure (it was just blunt fight for power in Lublin PO as far as I know)

It's Nepotism pure and simple, so I guess I am not surprised to see you supporting PIS-whose members have quite questionable moral values to say the least.

Staffers working in an MP's office are paid by the taxpayer, and not the MP. I worked in an MP's office here in Auss-and my wage was paid by the department of Treasury and finance. I am 100% sure that is the case in Poland as well.

And not only that according to the articles you provided she also tried to have her son get the number 1 ticket in her region, that's truly disgusting nepotism.

News / Europeén Union will finance the 2nd Warsaw metro line. Good news. [60]

There's only one pie; if someone takes a bigger piece, someone else always gets a smaller one. Despite what banks and governments think, you just can't create another "pie" out of nothing ;)

That is a very socialist view of the world.

Aww. My heart bleeds.

I can't wait to use the British-subsidised metro with the cheap tickets.

lol.

On a more serious note, these investments couldn’t have come at a better time for Poland. The economy is injected with some much needed stimulus that does not overburden the budget and creates growth and employment. Now had these investments taken place during an economic boom, I am guessing that in all probability the inflation rate would be sky high and the government would be forced to cut back somewhere else.

Instead the government is getting maximum bang for it buck. Given the economic situation, the competitiveness between construction companies must be huge, which means that they can't simply jack up the prices, and in all probability they have to compete on price as well.

I believe this can be described as Poland's Goldilocks moment(:

Language / How hard is it to learn Polish? [178]

However, I don't know Polish and that's disheartening to my very Polish grandmother

Yes, I am not surprised. I would be pretty damn disheartened to that you chose Russian over Polish. Have you ever been to Poland and Russia? If the answer is no on both counts, and you do get the chance to visit the aforementioned countries you will realise your mistake.

News / Poland Parliament elections in October 2011 [944]

it really makes me wonder if his "advisors" are not deliberately destroying him so they can take power for themselves.

I am not so sure, that would be suggesting that they possess a bit of intellectual acuity, which i just don't believe they have. To mix my metaphors, i think that they like a desperate man who is drowning and willing to grab hold of any short term political advantage, no matter how stupid it is in the broader perspective. They are going about the country trying to set everything to light, that is their only tactic and that is the only thing they are capable of.

And that silly woman Gilowska, is still hurting after being caught out by the media for nepotism, that is the only reason why she is siding with Kaczynski.

Life / Can any young Poles can still speak Russian [25]

I'm aware that all Poles over the age of 40 can speak Russian

No, only a few can in fact. And hardly any young people in Poland speak Russian or understand it.

I am English Wulkan.

Which makes it worse.

Why do they have so much...anger in their faces?

That is the least of their problems, the fact that they have stupidity written all over their faces is more of a serious problem. As for the guy with the Ireland Shirt-there is no way I wold want Poland to resemble Ireland at this point in time. To borrow a Polish phrase, they look like "głupie bydło które morde krzyczy" you can substitute bydło with knury or ziemniaki. I hate this agression that has cret into Polish politics, which will contradict my next sentence which is, if i were Tusk, whilst speaking to them i would have an image of myself splitting a saber on their thick oval skulls-because they are the type of stubborn morons that will never mentally develop.

does anybody else share my feeling or is it only me {blushes}

OK, the guy with a silly moustache. :):)

The campaign news: Donald Tusk, The Prime Minister, is taking an active part in his party`s campaign. He rides on his Bus Force One around Poland and meets people.

Yes that is the one(:
I think it is really brave of Tusk, and hopefully it will pay off. It takes a lot of stamina, I think after only three meetings like this, and he would feel physically and mentally exhausted-the nervous strain must be unbearable. This is not something a person of a nervous disposition can do.

News / Poles are able to forgive their enemies - how noble. [68]

Giving a good example to other politicians is not vanity.

Well I suppose it is not, and well done to him for doing so. However a true Christian gesture would be to reconcile with him and not tell anyone about it.

News / Has there been an influx of Polish people into Germany? [21]

I was wondering if Poles have starting moving to Germany since they lifted immigration restrictions this year?

There has always been a huge number of Poles in Germany, even before the restrictions.

How would you feel if there was an influx of nearly 1 million low payed working class Brits to Poland within a space of 2 years?

There wouldn't, because they would be to lazy too learn the language.

case being far means you are able to see far less

Perhaps you are right. Maybe i should follow Kaczynski's flaming torches (pohodnie) to lighten the way, so I can see a bit further into the distance. Wait a minute wasn't there once a guy who was a huge fan of torches-I think his name starts with an H?

Lech Walesa

And don't forget the other part of the Lord's prayer

Taketh they camera
maketh sure that thy taketh a photograth,
to showeth to the rest of the world
Be sure to stroketh thy vanity once in a while
So that the world seeth what a good person you are.

Vanity of Vanities.

UK, Ireland / Why do so many Polish guys in the UK have a crew cut or buzz cut? [106]

Iv'e noticed that many if not most Polish guys here in the UK have very short hair.

For someone who feels inordinately disinclined to all things Polish, you do seem to be spending an awful lot of time on this forum. And the reason for this post is? Are you a hair stylist, or thinking of setting up a barber's saloon(: ?

UK, Ireland / Grateful Polish photographer stitches up his Welsh hosts [96]

The pictures

They are funny and sad at the same time time. In Poland you are much more likely to find old drunks-with plenty of other problems besides drinking, they generally tend not to be as well dressed as some of the individuals in the photos, i think younger people tend to be a rarity.

When I was in Poland a few moths ago I did see an old unemployed fool pissing into the street. The reason I noticed this was because all the traffic in front of us suddenly went in to crawling speed, naturally I was wondering what was the reason for the holdup-and no it wasn't some road maintenance up ahead, it was the above mentioned man pissing from the pavement into the street (in broad daylight). And the cars slowed down to swerve around his *****

PS. She is pretty, too. Kaczyński has no chance.

Indeed he doesn't.

On a more serious note, for all those who constantly complain and find the Polish bureaucratic system very frustrating. this article is for you-very interesting and no BS: I fear the current government's approach would not be replicated by PIS if it were ever to win power, and the process of reforms would come to a halt. I think that Adam Szejnfeld is definitely one of this government's stars.
