News / American GIs troops finally in Poland and, thank God, there's more to come [480]

The topic is can we rely on the USA to uphold its treaty commitments to NATO.

for you the topic seems to be raking over the coals of an election that Trump won, probably fair and square, plus some irrelevant stuff about Clinton's emails and god knows what else.

We did feel safe here under Obama, whatever his faults. Same with both of the Bush presidents. With Trump we don't know - different message every day - and that is not surprising as he is an ignorant and bigoted buffoon deserving only derision and contempt.

You are not a Reb any more - your team is in charge now and we want to see what they do, not talk about what the last guys did.

Study / Overview of the WSGE university in Poland [42]

Yes that is what I mean to say - that it is a bona fide organization, accredited by the Polish education authorities.

As for the usefulness then I broadly agree with you - but I could say that the other 2 universities in my home town are worse than my Alma Mater but its still just my subjective opinion. I have had some good employees from WS institutions in Poland.

Yesterday's farce shows just how far respect for the US is slipping. Once that happens it is very hard to get it back - your politicans must find a way to unseat Trump soon or other countries will start to make their own security arrangements. This was not fake news - we saw him unfiltered, shooting from the hip for more than an hour. He is a moron and probably mentally ill - favorite subjects are the media, Hillary and his own TV ratings. He did however defend Flynn and then talk some nonsense about Russia and firing missiles which has gone down like a lead balloon with the Polish media today.

What we want here is some firm commitment to NATO - but he gives the impression that he probably does not really know what NATO is.

Study / Overview of the WSGE university in Poland [42]

It is incorrect to say that this is a fake school. You can turn up there and take your lessons and get your qualification.

It is right to question the academic reputation of this place - but it has a building, teachers, classrooms etc.

Life / Withdraw Europe money in Poznan [16]

Euronet cashpoints do this - but only in certain places. Check on their website but it is available in 2 or 3 places in each big town. But factor in your bus ticket and your time and you might be going through a lot of hassle for a few zloty benefit

But what Hillary would have done is not relevant - the election is finished, Trump won and saying "Hillary would have been worse" makes no difference. The Obama admin is now in the history books. So what we are interested in here in Poland is whether we can trust the US to guarantee our security.

And the jury is still sitting - Trump has appointed a Russian stooge as security advisor then had to sack him, but not before Flynn put the wind up the Polish government with his insane questions about the Belarus border. His Secretary of State is also close to Putin.

Trump is someone so erratic that he deals national security questions in a crowded dining room in public. That's not fake news - there are authentic photos of it.

Trump is the one who appointed him - just one month ago. Chaos and totally disconcerting for long time allies.

And you are not a "reb" any more - your guy is in charge and I have to say a fine comedy so far.

As for Clinton's emails - I presume you have seen the pictures of Trump responding to a missile launch in a busy restaurant. He is a moron but with a bit of luck he will also be gone within a year or so.

Law / PESEL or NIP in Poland for an American married to Polish citizen [22]

You could try making your PESEL up - first 6 digits are your birthday and then just add some random ones. That worked for me a few years back while I was waiting for my real one to arrive. I don't think the government's computers are often connected to other departments though some data sharing is happening in tax etc.

Well thank god that the person who asked for information about these fictional incursions to Belarus is now gone - sacked or resigned due to lying about his inapporpriate contacts with Russia - and that is good news for Poland.

I hope Trump will replace him with someone sensible - one month in he surely appreciates he needs some experienced security staff.

Love / Do I move from UK to Poland or not? (I met a Polish lady) [21]

As Smurf said - give love a chance but is there some kind of halfway house you could do - e.g. work remotely from Poland for 2 weeks a month. Or she visit you in the UK one week ? That way you can see if you are really a fit with her and if you are then you can take some long term decisions.

Before you chuck in your UK life then you must discuss the big issues with her - do you want kids ? looking after old parents, would you buy property ? If you don't feel ready to have those dicussions with her then moving is probably not wise.

If by liberal you mean a lover of freedom then yes I am. And yes I am a Westerner - not much you can do to change that.

Work / What is the average accounting/auditing salary in Poland? [42]

As I understand you are looking for internal audit work and not being in public practice ? If that is the case then there are plenty of roles, and in many cases lack of business Polish may not be an issue - often in Europe blue chips will have a European team who will fly in and out of assignments - but that can be tiring. It is also as you note a good time to look for bank compliance work as more and more of this type of work in Warsaw.

Money probably around PLN 15k a month if you are lucky. You really need to work via LinkedIn than on a board like this. Put your profile together and then make contact with Warsaw recruiters - there are about 10 companies specializing in finance staff.

News / Frau Merkel today in Poland [70]

Why is it presented as a given that the EU has failed and that its model is dead ? It remains the most equal and richest place to live - 16 of the top 25 happy countries are in tech EU and that includes the supposed basket cases Portugal, Greece and Italy. A similar number of EU states are in the top 20 of any quality of life index or any quantifiable measure of wealth. How many of the EU 27 are really neoliberal? Many have high tax, well developed safety nets and high level of workers rights.

The refugee influx was a big mistake but the root cause remains US interference in Iraq, Afghanistan and Russian interfence in Syria. The other chancers from Africa, Kosovo etc should be turned back at the borders.

The EU is far from perfect but at the moment i would rather live there than in Putin's Russia or Trump's America. And it's awesome to see what a pigs ear Trump and the Brexiters are making now that they have to implement their crazy ideas.

Real Estate / 100% LTV Mortgage on a purchase of an apartment in Krakow, Poland [4]

There is a recommendation by the Polish banking supervisor that the maximum LTV can be 80%, in some exceptional circumstances 90%. It is not strictly a law, but all of the main banks follow that, and your chances of getting 100% LTV are basically zero. It's nothing to do with you being a foreigner either, a Polish person would have the same difficulty
It's a sensible law, Poland's currency is quite weak and I think it's essential that the banking system is stable, and that there is no reckless lending to consumers.

Life / A good cobbler and bespoke tailor in southeastern Poland? [7]

That will be very difficult - google Krawiec meski and there are a few hits in Lodz- small private guys. But they will not have linen lying around waiting to be used - linen suits are almost unheard of here. if you don't find someone this week then forget it. Given that you could try a more organised tailor in Warsaw - try Zaremba or the Mexican guy (forgot his name). They are both rather expensive by Polish standards.

Honestly your best bet is to get Ryanair to London and get something off the peg.

News / V4 (Poland) wants Serbia and 5 others in EU [60]

Romanian gdp and living standards have nów comfortably overtaken Serbia thanks to it being in the EU. It has some issues but it is looking forward and not back and I have always found it a good place to do business.

Meanwhile your Serb government won't take the steps needed to give its citizens a better life - too busy painting trains with childish slogans.

Language / I'm Moving from UK To Poland to learn Polish and live there [11]

it is good that you have a few years to think it through because without a job that is a big step. It is unlikely that a cafe or other entry level job would hire you - they can get perfect Polish speakers for about 3 quid an hour or Ukrainians if they pay under the table. So maybe look at something like English teaching or shared service centre work.

Also bear in mind that in 2 years time it might not be so straightforward to come here and work if you are a U.K. citizen with no ties. Read the newspapers but freedom of movement in the EU will be somewhere near the front page.

Other thing I would ask is are you sure this lady wants you back in her life, even as friends ? I know its a blunt question but think through if you are doing it only because of her. Mind you if you are single, and look after yourself there will be plenty more fish in Wroclaw :)

News / What impact will Donald Trump's election have on Poland? [331]

But Hillary got more votes than Trump so he is not really in the majority. Not arguing with the result or the electoral syste, but save the histrionics - there are enough nutjobs on here already. You do know that you can be a white, conservative, straight, male and still think that Trump is dangerous and unfit to govern ? The consequences for Poland could be severe but lets see how it goes.

News / What impact will Donald Trump's election have on Poland? [331]

Well you are right - apart from being governor of the largest state in the US for two terms Reagan had no political experience. Walesa had 8 years experience in a leading role in Solidarity.

Trump has none of those abilities - changes his mind literally every day.

And I am not goung to read a book about Martin Bormann because it is probably tripe - he was never in exile and they identified his remains in the 90s in Germany.

Right, so thanks to a moron with no experience of political office who pobably could not place Poland on a map, this country will increase its economy by 400 percent in 8 years ? Must have been a good afternoon on the sauce.

News / What impact will Donald Trump's election have on Poland? [331]

Thanks mods - but in any case the topic seems to have switched from Trump to posting white supremacist nonsense and insane theories about Putin and Martin Bormann.

Trump will at least be good for comedy if the first three days are anything to go by - his slow dance reminded me of some awkward school prom moments and he seems to have spent the rest of the time arguing about how many people showed up for his party. Not sure if he has started work on the wall yet.

Do you have some evidence that this agenda exists ?

And does that mass immigration include Poles ? Is an unqualified Pole a more desirable immigrant than an African doctor or an Indian engineer ?

Maybe you would be happier discussing your views on a white supremacist forum ? Until about a year ago this board was mainly for advice about Poland.

Who is going to pay for this European wall ? Or do you want to send the bill to Mexico for that one too ?

Not sure how the EU has failed its citizens - its given them the longest period of peace and prosperity in history and in the top nations for quality of life there are many EU members.

I doubt Trump really knows much about Brexit - he is not good on details and I think he does not really know who is in charge in the UK - but if Britain thinks they can get a better trade deal with the US then they can get cracking on that on Monday morning. Probably will not be as easy as they think.

Love / Should I follow her? I met a beautiful Polish woman who has been working in the UK [62]

The expats that are in her hometown are doing what ? Probably they fall into 3 groups - english teachers / translators, long established expats who speak Polish and have Polish wife and kids and experts who are here on some company gig - mainly engineers, bankers etc.

Investigate that and speak to those people before you take the plunge - It could work out for you but if you are 30 then really be careful before you burn your boats and leave a bit of cash to restart in the UK if needed.

Good luck !
