News / Giant Jesus Rising in Świebodzin ( Tallest in world ) [323]

The small town of Świebodzin in northwest Poland is ordinarily nothing more than a rest stop at an intersection between two highways for most travellers. Soon, however, it will boast an attraction worth travelling to - or so its citizens hope.

krakowpost.com/article/2400

Ain't this a little bit to much? In the communist times it would be a huge stalin statue. But instead of Stalin they put Jesus.

Welcome to the Régime totalitaire de Radio Maria!!!

Plenty then!!

That's a bit optimistic

What's wrong with that? imagine the world filled with pessimists!!!!!

you are looking at a longer time frame to redress the imbalance between property prices and salaries.

Are we talking about more then 30 years?

I really hope for a brighter future for Poland.

The problem is that the country is not a small country like Hungary or Czech Republic. It's big with a population with over 38 milj poles. It will probably take a couple of more years before we will see salaries on the same level like the ones in the west.

History / Recent Lech Walesa interview made by VBS [30]

too late.... Lech took the last spot...

If it were only 1 spot left and the question was if Walesa or Kaczynski should have it, i would for sure say Walesa. But Kaczynski died before Walesa so no biggie!

Like I said, not arguing with you on it.

Yea i know ;)

History / Recent Lech Walesa interview made by VBS [30]

i wonder if he's gonna lie one day by Lech at Wawel....

Yes he should, he did aloot to Poland and deserves a place in Wawel.

He's also a socialist. As was/is Solidarity. Nothing wrong with that, but hey, it is what it is.

Most of the countries in Europe are socialistic, just that they got a more liberal stand. Look at Sweden for example, being an Democratic socialist country for over 50 years, and still one of the richest countries in europe.

History / Recent Lech Walesa interview made by VBS [30]

This is one of the recent interview with Lech Walesa made by VBS.

They talk about solidarnosc and recent politics and about what Lech Walesa thinks about Barack Obama etc etc.

I seriously love this guy after watching this interview!

Info

Earlier this year right-wing ideologues Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh burned up the airways with excerpts from an interview by former Polish President Lech Walesa, arguing the co-founder of the Solidarity movement and anti-Communism crusader was warning that President Obama was leading the U.S. into the shackles of socialism.

It turns out Beck and Limbaugh were merely manipulating the Nobel Peace Prize winner's words. Classy! Here in a recent interview with VICE's Eddy Moretti, Walesa sets the record straight. Turns out he was merely being used by the right-wing pundits for their own propaganda and actually considers Obama a leader of world reform.

Travel / From Poland With Love [20]

Episode 7

This is the final Episode!!!
In the final installment of the show, Ivar and Julita are back in Warsaw and go live on the radio. Then they go chat with Swanski, a graffiti artist, designer and illustrator, about street art in Poland and his work with American skate companies. And, though this won't come as a shock to anyone, they have a big ****** with lots of vodka and friends on their last night in Poland.

UK, Ireland / Why Manchester rules over Warsaw :) [65]

I really wonder how London and Manchester would look like after being bombed to the ground and after that being under communist occupation for over 60 years ;)

History / Life in Partitioned Poland (Specifically in the Prussian Partition) [118]

Bismarck’s Speech to the Prussian House of Deputies on the ―Polish Question (January 28, 1886)

The Germans' good nature and admiration for all things foreign, a kind of envy with which our countrymen regard those who have lived abroad and who have adopted certain foreign allures, and then also the German tradition of battling their own government for which they were always certain to find willing allies among the Poles (“hear, hear” on the right). Finally, [there was] the peculiar capacity of Germans, not found among other nations, to not only get out of their own skin but to get into that of a foreigner (laughter) and completely to become, in a word, something like a Pole, Frenchman, or American. I remember from my childhood learning the most popular melodies in Berlin about the old Polish general:

Remember, my brave Lagienka; (laughter)
Ask no one of my destiny;
My Fatherland . . .

interesting... a huge change since last year...

“When it comes to the future, there are three kinds of people: those who let it happen, those who make it happen, and those who wonder what happened.”

I guess you're the one who wonder what happened!!!

SUPRISE SUPRISE!!!!!!!

Just like Germany has to pay for it in every single history book, painted as the worst war criminals in the history! I salut you!!!

Well....it has been awhile, hasn't it? ;)

Indeed but it will be in the history book for ever!!! Nothing you can exterminate my dear germ!!!

Without Prussia there wouldn't had been a Germany...say Thank You to prussian Bismarck for that! ;)

I wish Poland annexed Prussia when it still had the chance.

Stupid liberal poles doh!!!

Anyhow I think a Poland becoming voluntarily part of Germany again is as high as your vision:

Fair enough, let us all dream away for a while into our utopia...

Okay...maybe Prussia rings a bell?

I did know you would say that. But Prussia was never Germany ;),

And Prussia only had small parts of Poland. and Don't forget that Poland were masters over Prussia long before the prussians partioned Poland togheter with 2 other countries.

News / Poland 2050? What will happen? [60]

But if you take the case of the EU you did kind of beg for entry - without one bullet fired

No... They begged us ;)

Why WWIII...you yourself stated that countries should look at their more successfull "true masters!" and beg for entry??? Totally voluntarily!

Germany never was a master of Poland, just a occupier for 4-5 years ;)

News / Poland 2050? What will happen? [60]

There have been many forecasts about Polish depopulation by mid-century to even as low as 20 million.

Forcasts made by monkeys bribed with bananas maybe by some evul anti-polish communist?

Do you think that will happen?

No, i believe we will have a growth when our Gdp starts get closer to the ones in Germany and France etc etc... Poles rather live in Poland you know, but some of them rather go where the money is.

Or will Poland follow the lead of some West European countries where significant Thrid World immigration preventing the birth rate dropping?

How can a starving cow feed anyone else then her own little Calfs?

Do you envisage any territorial changes?

With the success of Poland the other countries that have been under Polish rule for centuries will realise that the only way to grow is to join back to it's true master Poland. And that would be Lithuania/Belarus/Ukraine! ;)

If Poland's currently superior GDP were to continue, by when would it approch the econ level of the West?

Max 20-30 years.
