News / Opole townsfolk outraged by mayor's destruction of their song festival [137]

artists boycotting the event

A sizable share of the showbiz community is against the current conservative govt. As I mentioned before, both Kayah and Rodowicz had refused to perform at the 2015 annual carol concert in the Duda presidential palace although they had done so the previous year under president Komorowski, widely suspected of being an SB informer code-named Litwin and known to oppose the dismantling of the Soivet-era military intelligence WSI. This is much the same as Hollywood boycotting Reagan, Bush and Trump but going gaga over Clinton and Obama.

If the mayor had not been a PO operative and former councillor and had firmly backed Rodowicz's anniversary gala, few performers would have dropped out. But he himself had objections to some of the peformers Rodowicz had invited such as the King of Polish Cabaret, Jan Pietrzak.

Communism will die

But not ex- and post-communists and their families nor today's cultrual marxists. Despite their valiant efforts, I doubt if PiS can succeed in fumigating all the post-PRL hold-overs and their fellow travellers out of the nation's woodwork.

credible source

Not everything gets reported. Interview-givers only give out what they want to. A lot of stuff comes over the grapevine, through personal contacts, often on condition of anonymity so linsk are not always available. Rodowicz was not one of many in this case -- this was to be her 50th-anniversary gala and the otehr artists were to lend splendour to the event.

I was referring not just to Opole, but to the Polish-Polish war in genral. Ever since the losers went into shock over losing the election in Oct. 2015, their side of the dispute over numerous individual issues was largely accepted as the gospel truth by the Western liberal-leftstream media. So right there we know we are not dealing with balanced reporting but with a biased, partisan narration.

the FT reporting

No argument there. FT is not a ztabloid but a serious business and general newspaper. But any paper that constantly highlights only one side of a dispute is not providing balanced reporting. The Western mainstream media have by and large taken the "total opposition" view as unquestioned truth. Do you regard that as impartial reporting?

a local incident

You're not quite PiSlamic so I won't suspect you of maliciously twisting my question to score points, but I specifially referred to the "Białystok incident". Of course I agree that Opole is a landmark cultural institution, but Białystok has generated probably more copy than the festival.

Easy to say

One quick question. How do you explain the huge volume of copy generated on PF by a single, local incident. There are numerous town councils where various rows, incidents and irregularities occur but go largely unnoticed beyond their local area. In terms of PF focus, the Białystok incident might appear to be a major "catastrophe", "disaster" or "conflagration". In actuality it is truly a peripheral occurrence if one consdiers the Manchester massacre, the NATO summit, scams such as AmberGold and many other domestic and international issues. What is your personal, candid take on this?

What are the new - non-state controlled news?

Those are the media whose principal activity is PiS-bashing, badmouthing
every single word, gesture, action, plan, project or piece legislation originating within the democratically elected good-change Law and Justice government. Those media are heeded by the losers' camp whose only aim is to regain the status quo that gave them power, prestige and financial gratification. Case rests!

News / PIS councillor wants to censor Poland's history book [148]

Russian provocation not being mentioned in the book

I had not read the book, but since a certain PiSlamic poster contested someone's statemenet that "Poles are not anti-Semitic", one could only conclude he was again tarring the people of Poland with the anti-Semitic brush,

BTW does the book mention that Jews opened fire on a Russian Orthodox procession? Was that true or just a provocation? What about the bomb that allegedly exploded during a Polish Corpus Christi procession the same day, killing a Catholic?

Oh yes, that is perfect (pigdin) Polish: doszklo do pogromu ludnocsi

foreign teenagers

Word is out that the book is to be translated into English. Those that attend Polish schools abroad do know Polish and they are amongst the target audiences. T'hose pre-teens and teens are apparently are more intelligent than one old Anglo-expat who has spent a "mere" 22 years in Poland but couldn't get the hang of the lingo so he never bothered to learn. Anglo-jabber is better, innit?

That isn't the target audience

Then what is? It was my udnertsanding that these comics are to be distributed to Polish schools abroad and via Polish embassies. The graphic format appeals mainly to today's non-reading picture-minded generation.

attempt at censorship

Funny thing, PC is mainly about censorhip and yet you love, support and advocate the muzzling of free speech. How come?

blacklists

It's not about principle. Celebrities are too egoistic and narcissistic for such things. It's more about go-with-the-flow tribal solidarity. If the majrotiy of the shwobiz gang's top acts planned to perform at Opole, the number of those boycotting the event (although I'm sure there would be some) would be much smaller. The politicisation of culture seems to be a growing phenomenon. Many US celebs will not perform for Trump. Others did not want to share a stage with Obama.

This isn't

To show Poland or Białystok as an interesting place when the audience are mainly ignorant foreign teens (and they really are ignorant although it is not PC to say so!) requries forethought and skill. Here is an audience that are not sure what Poland's capital is, what countries Poland borders and had never heard of the partitions. (I have worked with American college students, so believe me I know!). A few sentences cannot do justice to all the socio-ethno-religio-political complexities of such incidents, that period and that place on earth.

I'm sure you would not approve similar short-shrift treatment of the number of Poles murdered, jailed, beaten or sent to Siberia by Jews. There were certainly more than 88. Or how about an artistically drawn cartoon of young Jewish red-guardsmen shooting Polish soldiers in the back in Grodno in 1939. Such things need to be explained in a work devoted to precisely such topics and not tacked on as an also-ran to someone's comic-book-style biography. I'm more than sure you'd be doing a lot of airbrushing yourself (if you had any say in the matter) rather than just leaving the Grodno incident as mentioend above.

coalition with PSL

A fairly balanced appraisal unlike the codswalop PiSlamic regularly churns out. That's poltiics. Luck always plays a role, also the turnout, the weather on election day and other factors. Probably had PiS pulled in fewer votes they would have no choice but to link up with PLS. And as you correctly noted, PSL joined forces with the ex-commies, the PO liberals and would gladly join PiS if only to remain on the stage. Kukiz also would be a likely partner. Depending on how they all fared, PiS/PSL/Kukiz might have garnered enough support for a constitutional majority. Would you know what % of votes would make up a constitutional majority?

will always have followers and fans

But she would be ostracised and blackballed by the showbiz community, many of whose members yearn for a return of the comfy-poshy status quo of post-communist RP III. Incidentally, both Rodowicz and Kayah had boycotted a concert for President Duda back in 2015 or 2016 by refusing to perform. In a sense, Rodowicz got a taste of her own medicine.

best selling daily newspaper

Marxists, Stalinists, leftists of every srtipe and coloration usually destroyed ecnomies and the socieites with theiri skewed utopianist notions, but they had one merit: propaganda skills. So at oen stage much of the flower of Western intelligentsia saw Stalin as the "father of the progressive world proletariat" despite his bloody purges and the millions he sent to slave-labour gulags.

The heirs to that 1984-style fact manipulation is the PC agenda and those that promote it. Only in recent years have more and more Poles begin seeing through the GW façade and their sales have been dropping accordingly. GW never was a general-news publication but a propaganda sheet for the KPP-rooted, leftist-KOR-ite clique. A clique the majority of Poles do not identify with.

non-state controlled news

You mean the propaganda tubes of the toxic "total opposition" which have still not recovered from the shock of losing the 2015 election. Bitterness, vindictiveness, frustration and impotent fury have pushed them into all kinds of circuses in defence of their beloved sttaus quo -- occupation of parliament, mud-slinging in the Sejm, disruption of patriotic and religious events and making general a*seholes of themselves. Their latest victim was the Opole Song Festival. They simply cannot accept the voters' democratic verdict that swept their 8 years of misrule into the dust-bin, so they go about ranting, chanting, grumbling, griping, b*tching, belly-aching and cry-babying the whole time. With no programme of their own, they are bent on undermining, sabotaging and badmouthing those who actually want to develop, build and strengthen Poland, not tear it down.

responsible reporting

Biased, one-sided reporting is never responsible. Both sides of a controversy should be fairly presented so readers can make up their own minds. That's why GW (known by some as Gazeta Wybiórzca, Gazeta Koszerna and Gówniane Wieści) can only be called a leftist smut sheet.

liberal/leftstream media

That applies to left-leaning liberal media. If the FT, NYT, CNN, TVN and GW have provided roughly the same narration in their blow-by-blow account of the Polish-Polish war, uncritically spreading the "total opposition" version, then they reflect the same poltical mind-set. Reagrdless of hteir economic stances: pro-market or pro-social.

capable of making up her own mind

She was definitely a "survivor". Once had a fling with the Red Prince, the playboy son of commie PM Jaroszewicz, not to mention Olbrychski and a slew of other wealthy and influential males. She may be financially secure, but this was to be her 50th annviersary gala. When Kayah began shouting at her that she was "selling out" and warned she'd be "washed up" in Polish showbiz if she performed, well... We all know what narcissistic ego-trippers celebrities are. Under the dual pressure of mother's death and her own divorce, the prospect of her life-long career being undermined and smeared was to much for her to take.

Financial Times

The FT is part of the liberal/leftstream media clique to which also belong GW, TVN, NYT, FAZ, CNN and a few others. They can always be counted on to regurgitate the "toxic oppostion" line and never give the opposing side equal time or space.

If I can re-find the source I will post it. It whizzed past me and I don't recall which website it was on.

Are those her words?

I don't think she knows the towel idiom. I hope you do! Anyway, Kayah leant on Rodowicz to withdraw from the festival and threatened her she'd be all washed up (in Polish: spalona) in Polish showbiz if she refused. In effect, she was being told her long career would be a shambles unless she did what the PiS-bashers of show biz wanted. And remember all this beign heaped upon a 70-year-old who had just lost her mother and was going through a divorce. Who has friends like Kayah needs no enemies!

it wasn't quite like that

Indeed it wasn't. Rodowicz decided to throw in the towel following a massive attack on her by soem of showbiz's toxic oppositon types for saying the problems had been cleared up and all her invited performers would perform. But that would have deprived the PiS-bashers of yet another opportunity to stage a rumpus so they started leaning on Rodowicz who already was not in the best of form. Her mother had just died and she was going through a divorce, so the added stress and pressure were more than she could take. So yes, utlimately she withdrew but it's best to know all the circumstances surrounding her deicsion. The things PiSlamic and his cohorts prefer to sweep under the carpet.

TVPiS broke the contact so the mayor terminated it

A carbon-copy of Hitler's accusation that Poland started WW2. BTW have you already initiated canonisation proceedings for Wiśniewski or are you still waiting for lower-case to second the motion? ROFL!

another TV station is happy

Many a town is bidding to become an alternative Polish Song Festival venue. There's been talk of Kielce and Kazimierz but others are waiting in the wings.

That is understandable considering the presige and revenues the festival provides, all destroyed by that pitiful excuse for a mayor, PO-brown-nosing, ego-tripping Wiśniewski. But our "beloved" (?!) PiSlamic is alfready ready to canonise him (ROFL)!
