History / The story about German- Polish reconciliation [194]

Don`t try to shift the responsibility. German crimes during WW2 compared to Polish retribution afterwards are a like an Elefant to a Mause. :):):):)

In your next post, will you try to accuse Poles of starting the war? :):):):)

Millions of murdered Poles compared to a few million resettled Germans - I hope you understand this difference.

If not, you are a troll. :):):):)

The reconciliation process will go on, despite your dirty job here! :):):):):

Life / Poland needs more immigrants and their children - which nationalities are the best? [518]

I want a job that would guarantee my future...

This is totally out of my studies, but I can learn it of course.

The knowledge of Turkish isn`t enough. You need to learn basic Polish and, to increase your chances in the job market, you should have some basic education in certain field. And previous experience is preferable.

There are many positions for people with fluent Turkish e.g.:

Chef for a Turkish restaurant:

History / The story about German- Polish reconciliation [194]

Your problem if you cannot cope with the truth.

The only thing I cannot cope with is the fact that a troll is shytting in my thread. :):):):):)

That is outrageous.

But I won't hold back the negative examples like: Odilo Globocnik, Otto Skorzeny

Skorzenny is a bad example. His family roots could be Polish but there is no direct proof for that.

Otto Skorzeny was born in Vienna into a middle-class Austrian family which had a long history of military service. In addition to his native German, he spoke excellent French.

You should mention Bach Zelewski instead: his family was truly Polish: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Erich_von_dem_Bach-Zelewski

Why is Prostitution still legal in Poland?

Because right-wing PiS party led by Jarosław Kaczyński didn`t abolish it when they ruled Poland with other far right extremists?

Just a guess.....

Don't underestimate our power to Germanize Slavs. We are masters in that art. It will only take two generations and you will find perfect Germans there, and for a good German it's totally normal to have surnames like Kowalski, Wischnewski, Nowak, Kaminski, Schimanski, Nowitzki and so on :) :) :)

You obviously don`t know the story of Konrad Wallenrod, a "perfect" Germanised Slav. Read it please. :):):):):):):):)

Your thread is very interesting and moving, thank you so much for putting so much time into this very informative thread.

I love this thread! Keep it coming :)

Hmm, thank you guys, but I have never been showered with so many compliments before. I am a bit suspicious - I smell a hamster. Why are you praising me? Do you want to borrow money? Go to bed with me? Or else?

Yes, I am. If you saw things my students and me do at school...... :):):):):):)

Thank you, :):):)

However, though I enjoy your praise, you obviously lack arguments.

I asked you for a link to prove that anti-Polish slander of yours about Poles settling in Belarus.

Where is it?

pawian... many thanks for that information, but currently, my Polish level is very very bad. So I don't even understand what it is in that link. Would you please send me a PM to talk about this matter and what we could do? I'd like to learn your ideas about that. Thanks in advance.

If you ever try to get into Poland, you simply need to be GOD to be given work and residence permit.

That is a fierce selection, I admit, but it is good for Poland. We need those most persevering ones, who will overcome all obstacles in order to become Polish. :):):):):)

The number of Ukrainian students have increased 3-fold and today they constitute the biggest minority at Polish unis.

More and more Ukrainians are interested in studying in Poland. In Kiev, the trade fair dedicated to learning abroad.

The fair brings together more than 50 foreign universities , including several Polish . Danuta Duda from one of them told Polish Radio that they give students a much greater opportunities than the Ukrainian ranging from trips abroad , through practices in foreign companies , and ending on the diploma recognized in the European Union .

Volodymyr and Tatiana told Polish Radio that they want to study in Poland due to the high level of the university. They note that the fee is a little higher than in Ukraine , and the learning is efficient. Besides, the diploma issued in Poland is recognized throughout Europe , not just in my country.

In the past three years, the number of students from the Ukraine in Poland increased three times - now studying them over six thousand , and are the largest group of foreigners in Polish universities .

When the baby is born the happy couple get 2.500 Ozzie dollars.

In Poland, it is 1000 zlotys,

But additionally, every year you can deduct about 1100 zlotys from your tax (not income) until the child is 25. Last year I didn`t have to pay 3500 zlotys to my local Tax/Revenue Office. Not bad.

History / The story about German- Polish reconciliation [194]

Did you know that some inhabitants of Scczecin now move to the German side of the Border because the prices for housing and stuff like that are cheaper than at the Polish side of the border?

Yes, I do. It has been taking place for a few years now. German East is slowly depopulating, so Poles are entering.

In the good old days of the German Democratic Republic, aka East Germany, Hoyerswerda was a model industrial town with about 80,000 inhabitants. It had the highest birthrate in the East. After reunification, things changed. The population fell by half. The average age increased from 35 in 1989 to 48.
"Every time I visit my parents and I drive through Hoyerswerda, there's every time a new house that's torn down," says 24-year-old Judika Zirzow, a German woman who now works in a bank in Karlruhe. "The face of Hoyerswerda is different... It's sad to think that if I have children, I could never tell them, 'Here's where I grew up."

mercatornet.com/demography/view/5433

The city of Löcknitz is one good example for that:

It seems local authorities in the German East say prayers so that Poles come and settle there:

Language / Polish saying about spider webs? [21]

my mother used to have a saying, upon seeing a spider web, that God blesses your house if a spider makes a web in it? thats a loose translation. does anyone know the real saying?

I don`t know the Polish saying/proverb but we have always treated home spiders with reverence. I forbid to kill them and when my wife runs into one in the kitchen or bathtub, I scoop it delicately into a glass and release in my room (if it`s small or medium sized) or onto a balcony (if it is really big). Spiders are good. For a few moths we fed a toilet pet spider with moths and flies.

History / The story about German- Polish reconciliation [194]

very interesting thread Pawian.

Wow! I understand it as an incentive to work harder.

So, back to topic.

Right after signing the border treaty, The story about German- Polish reconciliation German Chancellor, Willy Brandt, decided to make an even more spectacular move. He honoured Poles of Jewish descent who perished by German hands during WW2.

The incident took place during a visit to a monument to the Nazi-era Warsaw Ghetto Uprising on December 7, 1970, in what was then the communist People's Republic of Poland. After laying down a wreath, Brandt, very surprisingly, and to all appearances spontaneously, knelt. He remained silently in that position for a short time, surrounded by a large group of dignitaries and press photographers.

Brandt had actively resisted the early Nazi regime, and had spent most of the time of Hitler's reign in exile. The occasion of Brandt's visit to Poland at the time was the signing of the Treaty of Warsaw [...]

/wiki/Warschauer_Kniefall

His act of repentance wasn`t received too warmly in Germany:

It wasn`t appreciated by communist authorities, either. The Polish press was censored by communists and photos of kneeling Brandt were cut out from next day articles.

Brandt was repeatedly interviewed about the genuflection and about his motives. He later noted that:
(German original) "Unter der Last der jüngsten Geschichte tat ich, was Menschen tun, wenn die Worte versagen. So gedachte ich Millionen Ermordeter."[3]

(English translation) Under the weight of recent history, I did what people do when words fail them. In this way I commemorated millions of murdered people.

Today, there is Willy Brandt Square in Warsaw with a small monument.

Love / Prevention of child abduction by Polish mother. [232]

I am not acting in a malicious manner or with anger towards my ex-partner. I simply want my child to have both parents in their life so hopefully despite their parents not being together they have the best childhood possible.

So:

-she wants to go back to Poland.

-you are going to keep her in the UK against her will because you want to be a father.

I don`t know about British law in such cases, but in my opinion she has the right to go back to Poland and take her child with her, especially that you are not married.

If you want to have a contact with the child afterwards you will probably have to file a lawsuit in the Polish court which will decide about alimonies too.

Life / Poland needs more immigrants and their children - which nationalities are the best? [518]

Poland isn't dying it is merely adjusting and if it is a downward adjustment then there is nothing wrong with that.

Now, the question is: Who do you work for? :):):

I mean: whose agent are you? Which country is paying you to write such things here as a hidden influence lobbyist ? :):):):)

Germany or Russia? :):):)

Or Great Britain?

The estimates for 2050 say that the UK will be the most populous country in Europe - 77 million, easily exceeding Germany and France.

independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/uk-population-largest-in-western-europe-by-2050-2039395.html

32 million is a very healthy number of Poles to have in any decade. Much wealthier countries like Sweden and Switzerland get by now with around one third of that size.

You haven`t read my links, but I don`t blame you for that. :):):):):):)

So, one important piece of news: half of that 32 million Poles will be pensioners in 2050.

Life / Poland needs more immigrants and their children - which nationalities are the best? [518]

The good news though is that the curve has reversed again and after falling as low as 1.2, the birth rate is in an upward mood again..

Though rising, it is still below the nation`s reproduction minimum. Statistically, we lack 0.8 babies each year.

-0.8 means we are losing people, with the speed of about 25% per generation. Experts estimate there will be 32 million Poles in 2050. Some settlements will be totally depopulated.

Even if we increase social benefits for mothers/parents, improve child care facilities etc etc, the childbirth rate won`t increase significantly in Poland. I am a pessimist here. Why? Poles have taken to comfy life without children or with only one per family. Instead of spending their resources on the second, third etc baby, they prefer to go on holiday abroad, buy or build a house, have fun out at weekends etc etc.

Children mean burden, it is true, and who wants to consciously take it on one`s shoulders?

Therefore, guys, you won`t convince me that immigration is bad for Poland.

Only immigrants are able to give a new impulse to stop the dying out.

No, it isn`t bad, it is our only rescue.

And we have to be quick.

Poland doesn't need any ******* immigrants. What Poland needs is a decent pro economic growth policy. It not that Poles don't want to breed they simply can't afford it in this sad, anti citizen, opressive country. You need to fight the cause of the problem and inviting here bunch of semi civilized immigrants is not any solution. To hell with that and all who advocate it.

thats what he says and I don't believe him!
Who in his/her right mind would say that Poland needs more immigrants? Only a politician or a fool.

Let me remind you that first discussions on increasing the number of immigrants into Poland were held by Mr Kaczyński`s government in 2007.

A task force, under the auspices of Prime Minister Jaroslaw Kaczynski and including officials from ministries of labor, foreign affairs and internal affairs and administration, as well as secret services, is working on an action plan to open the labor market to immigration from Asia or from post-Soviet countries.

A professional study into immigration to Poland from 2009.

Some observances are very interesting:

Only "immigrants" and "transmigrants" from Western Europe and North America differ in choices
of schools for their children. They tend to chose American, British, French or German
kindergartens, primary and secondary schools. Only those married to Poles follow the same pattern
as do other migrants who send their children to ordinary Polish schools. On the one hand, in
selecting international schools, migrant parents seem to prefer enabling their children to sustain ties
with their country of origin or simply to obtain an education in an international environment, no
81
matter the country, no matter the new society. On the other hand, choosing international schools
may stem from the conviction that they provide higher standards of education than does the Polish
schooling system. Nevertheless, it seems clear that, in the case of migrants originating from the
West or Far East, educating children in Poland does not necessarily stimulate the development of
social ties with Polish people and Polish society.

Life / Poland needs more immigrants and their children - which nationalities are the best? [518]

Yeah Poles in Poland are so prosperous that 3 MILIONS decided to leave this paradise,

First of all, not 3 but 2.2 million.

Restless voyagers left their country to see the other, greener side. But they are coming back today. Experts say half of them have already returned.

Every second Pole, who went abroad after the Polish accession to the EU , he returned to the country. Only every tenth was associated with job loss .

As said Izabela Grabowska - Lusińska of the Centre for Migration Research, University of Warsaw , lasting several years, the economic crisis has meant that fewer Poles decided to migrate from Polish . To the country back half of the 2.2 million people who went abroad after 2004 . - But mainly because the planning is already leaving .

From the presented data it is clear that the economic crisis in the EU countries affected more immigrants than nationals , but not everywhere , for example . , Ireland and Spain, outside the labor market are more natives than visitors from other countries.

Unfortunately, I am seriously doubtful if they are going to increase reproduction. No, they are going to start and run their own businesses to increase their personal prosperity.

Pity.

et's say, a few million Ukrainians move to Poland. Would they be welcomed by the locals, or would the same problems arise as in the west? What's your opinion?

If it happens within a few years that such numbers of immigrants appear in Poland, there will be problems for sure.

However, I believe the influx of immigrants, though rising every year, will never exceed the Polish melting pot`s ability to adopt new citizens.

Some steps are being taken

(Reuters) - Thousands of illegal immigrants will be allowed to stay and work in Poland under an amnesty unveiled on Thursday that highlights the country's transformation into a regional economic powerhouse from communist-era basket case.

Apart from Ukrainians, Belarussians and other former Soviet citizens, members of Poland's ethnic Vietnamese community are expected to be among the main beneficiaries.

I agree Pawian. Poland definitely needs more immigrants. It's not just to solve the population problem but Poland also needs multiculturalism.

Eurostat figures show only 0.1 percent of people in Poland were born abroad, the lowest figure in the European Union.

Poland is actually an attractive place for people in the former eastern block and 3rd world countries. It may not be a perfect country but at least it is safe and finding clean drinking water is not a problem.

Yes, safety is important. I feel safer in Poland today than I felt in US in 1990s.
As for water, ooops, it is a problematic issue as Poland isn`t abundant in water supplies and we pay a lot for it.

pawian:
What we need is poor but persevering immigrants who are ambitious enough to have a better life than they had in their native countries.

Whom do you have in mind?

I'm against today's expression of "Multi-culturalism" because it ignores the root problem of native people's BEING FORCED TO LEAVE THEIR HOMELAND in search of a better life. The problem is that they have No Options at Home and that's the real problem. Importing the problem is not the solution-it's a band aid.

Sorry, we have a rat race and the law of the jungle.

Poland is losing its elites to better developed countries.

If Poland sucks in elites from less developed countries, it will be balanced.

Life / Poland needs more immigrants and their children - which nationalities are the best? [518]

but I believe that the country needs a few more decades of development before it can seriously think about competing for highly skilled immigrants.

Come on, Poland doesn`t need spoiled highly skilled immigrants from the West who will always remain doubtful about their choice and will leave the very moment they get a better salary somewhere else, be it Fiji Islands or Belarus.

Poles are skilled enough. I just talked to an ex-student of mine who is studying biotechnology at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow. She told me that Western Erasmus exchange students are amazed at the high quality of biotech faculty in Poland, e.g., lab classes in German universities start in the third year, while Polish students have them in the first year.

What we need is poor but persevering immigrants who are ambitious enough to have a better life than they had in their native countries. Even if they don`t become highly skilled professionals, their children will one day. And they will feel Polish.

They only thing they need is a warm welcome in Poland.
