Travel / Rented car from Germany to Poland [15]

But be carefull, as some poles hate Germans.

I wouldn't call that "hate"....they love those cars to much! ;)

USA, Canada / Most common ancestries in the USA [56]

Yes, I remember that...:)

I didn't know that though: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/German-American_Steuben_Parade

...
Every year the German-American Steuben Parade is led by cadets representing the German Language Club of the Military Academy of West Point, which was founded by General von Steuben.

In Germany there is not much known about the German-Americans....they are all Amis to us! ;)

USA, Canada / Most common ancestries in the USA [56]

well, quite a few of us in the states have something to do with Germany, many don't even know it :-)

There is even a german-american heritage month!

National German Heritage Month (Celebrated from September 15 to October 15)

A month celebrating America's German heritage. Numerous historical programs, museum and library exhibits, cultural events, genealogical workshops and more planned.

Besides the german-american day that is:

I mean this site is from July 2008 but it shows our most common ancestors on this territory.

We should just call it Germany v2 :)

History / WWII - Wolf's Lair. Valkyria operation had place in Poland's bunker complex. [11]

I didn't fully understand what you meant.

First anger, horror, incomprehension...then disgust and hate for the traitors who were seen as back stabbers as so many german soldiers fighted and died on the fronts.

That seems to be the prevalent emotion as he saw it....I think we can safely conclude from that
Hitler would had come out as a martyr in their minds.

If Hitler had been assassinated, would it have changed much? would he have become a martyr?

I recently read an interesting interview with one relative of the plotters.
He was on the Eastern front as the news came over the radio to the troops...he remembers that practically ALL his comrades were utterly dumbstruck and speechless. Feeling only absolute disgust...how could someone do to this to the leader....emotions run high.

He later learned that his uncle got hanged for it.

History / Ukrainians working in Poland in the 90s [34]

That's a good survey about the change of the attitudes about membership, life situation and everything of the new EU-members since their accession and now...some finds are quite surprising:

God Kysia, get a grip on your emotions! *backs away slowly*

My comment was about your notion that Poles lack generally the complaints-about-immigrants-like-the-Brits comment.

To this I tried to remind you that Poland till now never experienced the masses of immigrants like Great Britain or other countries in Europe do/did, so you just can't know how they will react once Poland get's a place on the want-to-go-there-list of masses of third worlders.

Next time you are about to fire another anti-german grenade you should be sure what your "enemy of the day" really said!

Typical German. I'm sure you enjoy the compliment.

Erm...Kysia?
What did I say wrong???

It's still a fact that more people leave Poland in search of work than the other way around.
The same holds true for most would-be immigrants from the third world...

My error was what exactly?

Then they turn around and spread the Goering propaganda about how Poland is inferior.

Huh???

The belief in Poland of poor little Poland and poor Poles is created by Germans.

Wot????

History / Is Jozef Pilsudski the king of modern Poles? [138]

and compare them to the UK one :)
I don't talk about numbers of course ;)

I'm not quite sure what you are talking about in the first place...;)

But I would prefer if you would bring some evidence like links and such and not only
unfounded opinons, thank you!

Question - do you remember anti-Ukrainian riots? No? How odd!

Nope...possible protestors were elsewhere in Europe....looking for work....;)

What I am saying is that there are no anti-immigrant riots prevalent in our culture.

When you become an attractive country for would be immigrants and they are beginning to swarm you like Western Europe....we can talk again!

Ukrainians and Poles are both Slavs so they get along easily.

Poles and Russians are both Slavs too....so they get along easily too?

English are not Slavs, they are Germanics and tend to get along with Germanics.

Yeah....two world wars! Beat that love!!!

But you are obviously overestimating those German influences. After the first quasi prehistoric period of German presence Cracow became more and more Polish with a lot of Italian color

You call history back till the 16th century pre-historic??? Interesting.... :)

It's rather interesting that all this happened first after full polonisation of the German element.

Nope, all these german artists and merchants which made the towns so beautiful and prosperous were most successful till their polonization.
And the polonization is synchronous with the end of Polands Golden Age...coincidence?

UK, Ireland / Brits to protest against foreigners in the workforce, including Poles. [289]

Reason why you see many Poles in UK is because in some ways we are connected to each other

Nope..main reason was that the labor marked of GB was open for polish workers whereas those of Germany and France and others were still closed.

Nah, they are American:

Nah, they are German! ;)

Germany takes Great Britain over at last! (Okay...abit long winded way and it took awhile but still....)

News / Shouldnt Poland be invited into the G-20? [7]

I've read up about it and I too think that Poland could surely be "in"....but as I already posted the G-20 have already several EU-countries AND the EU as a whole...it should be hard for yet another EU-member to get an extra place..

From Europe in the G-20 are already: France, Germany, Italy, UK, Russia + the whole EU!

(I wonder about countries like Mexico and Argentina though....I don't count them more important economies than Poland)

News / Shouldnt Poland be invited into the G-20? [7]

Latest news shows that the World Bank now ranks Poland as the 18th largest economy in the world.

You are in....in the EU slot!

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/G-20_major_economies
g20.org/about_faq.aspx

I don't think that Poland's economy isn't good enough it seems rather that the economy isn't everything for the G-20.

I rather think that it will be hard for yet another EU-member state to get yet another "extra-place"....as the G-20 are already 19+EU.

Language / 'MOZNA' - When is this used? [27]

I can even make it a wooden palisade, put in some fat guys and give them beer. Settled :)

Now I just need an adress and I'm coming to the party! :)

Language / 'MOZNA' - When is this used? [27]

This root is now unused in Polish, but retained in German, which does not mean that Germans named the river. This name is 6-8 thousand years old.

Well, Poles for surely not....as there were no Slavs in this territory at that time.

After all they have only been able to create a strong country when forced to,

When you don't count the Holy Roman Empire of the german Nation, for a millennia (962 - 1806)...

needed 500 years to win a battle with Poles after Grunwald,

Wot??? :):):)

News / Poland: In Top First 15 Countries in the WORLD by the number of CRIMES [286]

Wrong.
What about bankers and politicians? Huh?

I understand "trying to survive" as not knowing where and how to get some food on the table for the children tomorrow....and no, in the West there are enough state welfare and private charity organizations to help out. Nobody has to become criminal to survive here.

If he does he does so for own lower reasons...

News / Poland: In Top First 15 Countries in the WORLD by the number of CRIMES [286]

a man who has nothing has nothing to lose.

His dignity, his pride? His integrity???

Well....maybe he never had it then.
In our rich western societies nobody has to become a criminal to survive, period!
Just to be able to get the newest electronical gadget quicker than through work is NOT a reason.

(In Germany we have special social workers who run around and try to get the homeless people from the streets into state run homes, they would get all the help they need, from food to medical services etc. - many just don't want help! You can't always blame the state.)

....so technically they are included in our ancestry. Yes, the input of our German ancestors was quite invaluable xD

Yes, that was it....thank you! Now I can rest in peace :)
