So you keep saying, Wulkan. And that doesn't make it true.

It's still Poland's main newspaper, still independent and still evidently irritating you.

That's what Poland's ultra-nationalistic press is for, such as it is..

Really Wulkan, anyone interested can look online and compare for themselves...

sheckles

What are 'sheckles'?

Sales of GW are declining

All print media is declining, however as a news provider, the Polish Gazeta Wyborcza is doing fine.

it's pretty clear to everybody on this board what the source of your hatred of Michnik is

Yep, looks that way, doesn't it.

News / Russia says: WE'LL NUKE POLAND [150]

Too bad Poland didn't shoot down the choppers that violated its territory!

Not even the insane Macierewicz would be that daft.

They probably don't even have a cathedral there. Isn't that what distinguishes a city from a town

Not in Poland. You ought to know that by now.

And of course there's the fact that Michnik is a man of principle who went to prison rather than go against his conscience

Very much so - one of the reasons he and the newspaper he edits are so respected.

but you really met him? how not surprising.

Thousands have. Being a well-known MP and now the Mayor of a city. And all.

In your tiny little mind

In the "tiny little minds" of all those who buy it, and even more, those who use the website as a news source or even, like Po, as their email provider.

I wonder why you think that?

Saying hello to someone once, about 10 years ago is

in your 'opinion'? That casts a lot of doubt on the point you're trying to make, whatever that is, boy.

It is still Poland's best selling quality newspaper.

"Gazeta Wybiórcza" by majority of the Polish population

Firstly it isn't called that by many people at all, just cranks like Po3, and secondly, you're very out of touch with Poland, having been an economic migrant in Brum for the past decade.

statistics

Right, so all those copies people buy compared to the miserable sales of the nationalistic tabloids like GP and ND are a mirage.

Well, Wulk, looks like you're in a minority again with your whinging about Poland's most respected and best selling newspaper.

The sad thing is that an outsider or newcomer might read this and think it's a reflection of what people think here in Poland, rather than just online woo from someone who emigrated from here a long time ago and has to say the least a skewed idea of reality.

GW writes the truth, and you lie about GW. Perhaps that's why GW is Poland's best-selling newspaper

Basically very highly respected - the only Polish newspaper to have anything like international stature. And not about to go away.

Polonia / Do you know any Polish Language teachers in India? [44]

its a place where people speak polish and i will have to deal with a lot of people in restaurants, with cab drivers, hotel staff etc.

Restaurants and hotels will be fine with English, for cab drivers, use Uber (you'll need to download the app) where you order the cab through the app and they follow a route from GPS (so no cheating).

Of course some Polish phrases will be useful and I just googled 'survival Polish' and a few interesting websites came up. If you learn a few phrases, people will appreciate that.

If anyone approaches you after seeing this thread and offers 'lessons' by Skype, I would suggest you avoid.

getting divorced

Who said divorced? What we do know is that the marriage has broken down for well-reported reasons and she's left the marital home. Divorce or not is a matter for her.

The whole tide of public opinion is against GW on this particular point

No it isn't. You may object to it, but then again, you always have, for the obvious reason.

BS written by GW?

You do realise that the marriage split didn't come from Poland's main newspaper - they just report things. Admittedly PiS dislike the concept of press freedom, however their manipulation skill just weren't enough to cover that one up.

anti-First Lady slurs?

Anti? If anything very pro, given that she's left an alleged philanderer.

public domain readily circulating hither and thither.

Basically smut from very very dodgy sources...

Hackers indeed!

Oh so you actually believe it?

Everyone does - this is nothing new and certainly a thousand times more believable than Po's smut about the democratic opposition and child abuse posted on another thread today.

Real Estate / Questions about what's standard or conventional in a tenancy agreement in Poland [21]

any suggestions or any problems i have to face with polish law here??

Providing there's a notice period specified in the contract, there is no problem.

Assuming there is, to be on the safe side, send you should send your notice of quitting by registered post (with recorded delivery). Even if he doesn't pick up the letter, it is still valid under Polish law.

What a load of old rubbish. Absolute stuff and nonsense, limp propaganda against an august institution. And all because they wouldn't give you a job a few years back for the obvious reason.

unsubstantiated rumors and insinuations from tabloids and online gossip sites to convince readers that the First Couple's marriage is on the rocks

You mean the same 'First Couple' who have just separated...

to target and attract Fakt and Super Express readers

According to you.

More feeble attacks from the far right on Poland's independent media...

a shrewd and crafty elite

There you go again...

the authoritarian cronyism of the Kaczynskis, Szydłos and Dudas

Absolutely, although the latter two are just political boobies - basically the only two they could get away with putting on a ballot paper

Life / Information about sending items from a foreign country to Poland [10]

you can't depend 100% on the postal service in Poland.

Yes, always use a courier.

Worth mentioning that you post a package to Poland from certain countries using their normal post office it will be delivered by courier anyway - a few country's post offices do not entrust items to Poczta Polska because the level of theft is so high.

News / Demonstrations in Poland in defence of democracy. [2554]

You all non-Poles

You seem to forget the tens of thousands of Poles who come out onto the streets of every major city here to take part in the Polish pro-democracy movement.

Plus of course the majority of people here who, according to the latest polls, want rid of PiS.

in fact you can't even vote here.

My passport and Dowód Osobisty say otherwise, and interesting that you seem to think that only the opinions of ethnic Poles matter yet are here flaming on an English language forum - as if there aren't enough fora in the Polish language to discuss the current political crisis in Poland.

News / Poland -- Europe's only counterweight to Russia [271]

Indeed, our western powers belong to the less credible ones, given our history.

You think Russia is more credible than the free world???

Russia is public enemy number one.

in Europe it very much is just that - as has been explained to you before.

Very sad to hear what is basically Putinist apologetics, flying in the face of all reason and above all, against the best interests of Poland and Europe.

News / Demonstrations in Poland in defence of democracy. [2554]

For them those were happy years, certainly better years than now.

Basically the 'good old days' that will never return, however much PiS dream of a golden past that in fact never existed.

I don't think they have any real concept of the strength of democratic opposition to their undemocratic aims.
