News / Does democratic Poland guarantee it's LGBT citizens respect for human and civil rights? [1169]

Nobody that I know in real life

Just goes to show the limited circles you run with. Polish society is a rich mosaic of diverse opinions. It's good to hear the views of more than just one segment thereof. If you function only amongst like-minded peers then it can get to be a mutual adoration society with no fresh input.

global warming cra

Here in Poland and, as far as I know, throuhgout Europe there isn't any noticeable groups of global-warming deniers. In the US it is a leftist-rightist bone of contention.

Same with the gun business -- not many Poles or Europeans are for widepsread gun ownership.
And there is no creationist movement. JP2 made it clear that religion and science are not at loggerheads but complement each other.

approving same sex marriage

I am unaware of Pope Francis ever approving same-sex marriage. Have I missed something? He said he could not condemn gays and the sensation-seeking media hyped it up into "Pope supports homosexuality". But that has long been the case. The Church does not condemn homosexuals as such, only their vile, sinful practices, so Francis was not saying anything new..

Merged: Mercy for LGBT activist

GW reports the the Catholic website Fronda.pl wishing God's mercy on LGBT and Greens operative Katarzyna Bienias who was killed by a falling tree during the recent spate of violent weather. "May God forgive her for all the evil she has committed in her lifetime," Fronda said.

convenience above the rest

And predictability. The food may not be outstanding but it is predictably standardised so you know what to expect wherever the familiar fast-food chains operate. Not everyone is gastronomically adventurous when travelling abroad.

extra sugary junk food

As long as that's what the masses WANT and are willing to PAY FOR, that's what they'll get. Aren't schools educating kids about nutrition these days?

Genealogy / Huminsky last name - I would appreciate any info [9]

Huminsky.

CHUMIŃSKI: Polonised version of Eastern Huminskiy, from Eastern Orhtodox igumen/ihumen - the head of a monastery; equivalent of Catholic prior; Chumiński could have emerged as a patronymic nickname to identify the son of the igumen or someone attached to him.

Law / Radca prawny v adwokat? [2]

Is a Polish radca prawny the same thing as legal adviser and solicitor and an adwokat is the equivalent of a barrister? Are their rights and duties identical or do they differ in some areas?

believers are better

The phrasing may rattle the godless, but it's a fact that an idealistic, altrusitc "love thy neighbour" philosophy is better suited to serve the public welfare than the advocates of egoism, materialism and hedonism who are in it only for themselves.

Many decent politicans in different democratic countries invoke a higher ideal -- only the motley collection of rattle-brained anarchos and lefties do not.

History / History of European and Poland's anti-semitism [192]

Merged: Jews on anti-Semitism (a documenatry)

Israeli director Yoav Shamir embarks on a provocative -- and at times irreverent -- quest to answer the question, "What is anti-Semitism today?" Does it remain a dangerous and immediate threat? Or is it a scare tactic used by right-wing Zionists to discredit their critics? Speaking with an array of people from across the political spectrum (including the head of the Anti-Defamation League and its fiercest critic, (author Dr.Norman Finkelstein ) and traveling to places like Auschwitz (alongside Israeli school kids) and Brooklyn (to explore reports of violence against Jews), Shamir discovers the realities of anti-Semitism today. His findings are shocking, enlightening and -- surprisingly -- often wryly funny.

neofb.net/defamation.html

We mostly focus on what Poles and other Gentiles have to say about anti-Semitism. This enlightening
documentary made by Jews provides a Jewish-eye view of the problem.

News / The wave of designer-drug poisoning (dopalacze) in Poland [48]

many legitimate businesses

How many legitimate plant-food and incense producers are there in Poland? It's an inconsequential drop in the ocean. If you regard making Poand safe from the toxins of chemical quacks a poltical goal, then I'm all for it considering the alternative. Even one Pole hospitalised or dead is one too many!

close down legitimate businesses just to achieve a political goal?

How many legitmiate businesses produce pseudo-plant food, pseudo-incense and other designer toxins? If they were all put out of business, the GDP would not budge a bit.

The future of the nation's youth is not a poltical goal. It is the concern of every decent citizen. The greedy bastards who will destroy everyone and everything for their ill-gotten profita can be f*cked!.

BTW are you getting paid for your lobbying?

why are you so intent on big foreign

I'm not, I am against anything that depraves young people including drugs, liberal alcohol sales to 18-year-olds, porn, and commercial pop culture brainwashing them into unethical, immoral, "anything-goes" (whatever rocks your boat!), mindless, hedonistic lifestyles.

can't have your cake and eat

You obviously can. Are you being paid to spew this pro-dopalacze propaganda? Any more openings? Where do I sign up! (ha-ha!)

"plant food".

If it's a cover for psychoactive substances then it should be banned.

"plant food".

If it's a cover for psychoactive substances then it should be banned. Even if some legitimate producers of plant food are hurt, the plant-food industry is not one that will affect Poland's GDP. You seem overly concerned about colateral inconvenience to shady business types rather than the direct damage to gullible young people brainwashed into believng that colourfully packaged poison is somehow "cool". No-one's business success or failure is more important that the wellbeing of the nation's future -- its young people.

Nothing new, and nothing bad

As always jon is the true society-wrecking "progressive" who sees nothing wrong with any pathology -- including designer drugs. He'd probably love to have the age of consent lowered which is already ridiculously low (15) and maybe drinking age which is also too low at 18 (it should be 21). Well, his beloved EU think designer drugs are a plague that needs ot be dealt with, although they are still in the "molecule-changing chemists" mode which leads nowhere. The law mist have teeth in it: no strange or mysterious substances can be marketed. They must be clearly described and their purpose plainly stated and a certificate from a state-approved lab showing they may be marketed. Nothing more, nothing less. Otherwise it'll me just a cat & mouse game -- add this molecule, subtract that one, change the name, provide new packaging, etc.etc. and the problem will remain insoluble. And that's precisely what jon wants -- keep society in a state of anarchy and chaos because that takes some of the heat off the preverts.

FDA doesn't do its job

There was also Tylenol and probably others. On the other hand, what government or state office or agency do their job to perfection with no much-ups?. That additonal filter would be very useful in Poland.

your cake

It's a question of priorities and the safety and wellbeing of the nation's youth always shoudl take precedence of the profits of greedy mega-corporations or shady drug dealers.

News / Have PO (Platforma) operatives in Poland fallen into a panic? [332]

rp.pl/artykul/738670,1216548-SLD-do-wyborow-pojdzie-razem-z-Palikotem.html

SLD and TR

From both parties' standpoint probably a wise move (although personally I hope the ex-commies and Palikot's dingbats fail). As a coalition they would have to win 8% or not get into parliament. If SLD includes TR nutters on their ballot, they only need 5%. That they may get under the wire, but 8% is quite unlikely. The left have tried various ruses over the years such as Lewica i Demokraci but failed.

if Duda screws up

Is Andrzej Duda the Polish James Bond?

"Nazywam się Duda. Andrzej Duda!" No, he hasn't pulled that one yet - that's how Beata Szydło introduced herself at the PiS convention. But one website did compare Duda to Bond:

"Both gents are handsome, but as far as comparisons are concerned Andrzej Duda is a great cyclist and skier. He gave first aid to a mate who had broken his leg and in general is a versatile guy. In addition he is nice, plesasant, ("sympatyczny" - hard as hell to translate into English) and well-educated. In fact he's probaly got more trump cards than the film's main character," Marek Suski of PiS told Superstacja. "Reflex and reflectiveness are extremely important in politics. It is necessary to quickly reflect and react. Both James Bond and Andzej Duda have what it takes," commented Andrzej Romanek of Solidary Poland.

For 26 years of the III RP thieving cliques has been stealing out country blind, because they could do so without facing any punishment. The reds in PRL, an entire host of secret-police types, scam artists and in recent years PO members - all of them have regarded Poland and Polish taxpayers as a sucker cow that can be milked to no end. It's time to say "stop!" Soon the Platform will lose their parliamentary majority, and then the penal code can be beefed up to drastically punish thieves of public assets and scam-mongers.

pharmaceutical industry is years ahead in Europe.

And the designer-drug industry as well!
Anyway, heap on the excuses, defend the poisoners, oppose any restrictions so more and more young Poles can be exposed to the threat, toxified and even killed. The main thing is for the producers and dealers to rake in as many illicit gains as possible.

I hang around with are PO's supporters

You mean arrogant fools, snobs, yuppies, crass materialists and egoists who support the crook and scam Platfusy for a bigger slice of the pie. Now you know why such types are in jitters at the very thought of getting locked out (the way they locked others out over the years) and pushed away from the trough.

mercenary people

All the mercenaries support PO, the most materialistic, mercantile and corrupt grouping on the Polish stage. Their backers are now trembling in fear that their cosy nests will soon be disrupted and their machinations exposed and punished.

even 19% of voters

Kukiz's support is down again, but PiS has increased its lead over PO. The latest TNS Polska poll shows:
PiS 37%, PO 23% and Kukiz 14%. No other grouping cleared the 5% threshold.

little Polish guy

Poisoners are poisoners-- whoever injects these toxins into ciruclation should be dealt with severely.
Judicial independnece as it fucntions in III RP means they are free to accept "gratuiites" from wealthy defendants or their legal reps. Who pays the piper calls the tune is an old Enlgish saying adeuqate to the occasion. The big pharmaceutical compmies should also not be free to unrestrictedly place untested remedies and supplements on the market. Poland needs an American-style Food & Drug Adminsitration to rule which products are safe fo public consumpotion.

Kukiz may not be a greta cathc, but hsi supprot is indicatoive of growing disnechantment with the pwoers that be. It is in the anti-ACTA and Occupy Wall Street convention. Maybe nothing will come of it but the PO agreeing tosa referendum (after quashing all earlier attemtps) shows that this backlash does worry the "sytem".

newpolandexpress.pl/polish_news_story-7360-hundreds_poisoned_by_designer_drugs.php

As more new poisonings and additional deaths are reported the PF lobby in support of the youth-poisoning "industry" is workingn overtime to trot out arguments against public concern over the problem. This won't work, that won't work, you cannot ban this or that, ways will be found to circumvent regulations, bla-bla-bla. One wonders whether they are on the take from, for instance, the producers of "Strongman" or are they simply "useful idiots", promoting their brainless, hedonistic "anything goes" permissivism. They probably agree with the judge's decision to release the chief Silesian "Mocarz"distributor on bail even thouhg he will probably set up alibis and buy witnesses to testify to his absolute innocence. Another proof that the PO-era judicial system is totally corrupt.

Kukiz is predictably falling away

To early to celerbate... Latest survey shows Kukiz* with 19% support. It' gonna fluctuate.

Onomastically speaking, the Kukiz surname was dervied from the verb kukać (describing the sound made by the kukułka /cuckoo/).

pay all their tax there

It's a question of legislation. A problem erupts, then the proper legislative measures must be enacted.
A law can be enacted making it illegal for someone to pay taxes to anyone other than his country of residence, in this case Poland.

It seems you and yoru ilk are always on the side of the wreckers, destabilisers and even criminals who pose a threat to society. You are an apologist for letting banks and corproaitons not pay their fair share of taxes, one of your comrades is an apologist for deisgner drug market and so it goes.
