News / Lithuanian ambassador 'Poles not loyal citizens' [63]

I was born in Stalowa Wola came here when I was 9,

And still given a boot which proves my point, besides what the affairs of heart have to do with loyalty to any country?

What are you talking about?

I heard what you said but what’s the reason behind it especially for someone who was born there and has trouble speaking the language in the first place? Sounds like you simply can’t stand rejection even if you do speak broken Polish.

No joke serious. American born Polish girls who will only marry a Pole

Face it, she didn’t want to have anything to do with you or your friend, whatever – you were simply not her type. However you rationalize it, it still won’t change the way you appear to her. I know, it’s hard to face reality when dealing with rejection.

Why the hell they live here if they feel that way?

GW, do you find every guy attractive? Please.

Life / Homosexuality in Polish Culture [231]

I’m assuming that in the big cities in Poland people are a bit more chilled out about this sort of thing and don’t have hang ups or are so narrow minded?

Your assumption is wrong. Narrow minded my a**, general consensus across the board is that sort of thing is wrong and immoral. If you want no problems then you’re half way there, as long as you keep that "not in your face attitude" and "keep it in the closet" so to speak, what you do in your own bedroom is no one’s business, you should have no problems. Muscled or not, tough guy or not, it does not matter, just don’t flaunt it. Yes in my opinion it is wrong but no one is going to prosecute you or beat you up just because of that, your attitude about your lifestyle on the other hand might do just that.

No. Nothing contradicting here

Let me see; running home when they want free education and medical care is somehow using US as ATM? Perhaps only in a sense that they made direct deposit in that ATM of yours in the form of Social Security tax funding programs such as unemployment insurance, temp assistance to needy families, medicare, medicaid, state children's health insurance programs etc. not to mention other taxes all to the benefit of the native Yanks but when it coms to using those very programs and services they run back to Poland. Ah I got you ;)

What about Polish folklore? Or myths? Please tell me. I'd really like to know.

Tons of it by Lucjan Siemieński. Don't know if any of it has ever been translated but you can open up literat.ug.edu.pl/podania/index.htm#spis - This Link in Google chrome and hit translate button to view it in English

History / What do Poles owe to Russians? [193]

What do Poles owe to Russians?

Roughly 300 years of repression, destruction of not only of their nationhood but also their cultural achievements (if they had any) and countless Gulags so we can take good care of them on their well-deserved retirement but I’m afraid that the Chinese will beat us to it, they need raw materials.

Genealogy / SEARCHING FOR A RUSSIAN FATHER.....where to begin.... [12]

Looks like you have impossible task ahead of you indeed. Not much is known about the place as it was top secret Soviet military base about which even Polish authorities were kept in the dark. As to organization and identity of the Soviet units stationing there you won’t find much in Polish sources and I very much doubt you’ll find anything in Russian either unless you knew exactly the unit he served at. What’s known is that the garrison there was part of the Northern Group. At the time of withdraw this group was under the command of gen. Wiktor Dubynin and his deputy gen. Anatolij £opata – later on deputy defiance minister of Ukraine, prior to that period it was restructured couple of times. Even Kuklińskis’ report given to CIA back in 81 contained only partial information about this place, only an estimate number of troops and equipment. The last officer in command of this garrison was gen. Władimir Bułhakow, he was the commander of the 6th-Nowogrodzko Witebsko Mechanized Guard Division. Borno Sullinovo itself was the greatest concentration of Soviet ground forces stationed in Poland, there was a division stationed there, two mechanized regiments, battalion of tanks, artillery regiment, antiaircraft artillery, battalion of sappers, medical, reconnaissance, operational-tactical missiles brigade, supply depot, etc., all together about 25,000 personnel on 18,000 ha. of land.

As an added piece of trivia for you, the rumor has it that this was the last battle ground between Polish and Soviet forces in the late 50’s. The Soviets were confiscating live stock from the local villagers as their food supplies were iffy and the local villagers armed themselves to take them on at which point Polish army stationed at Szczecinek joined the local population and the armed skirmish supposedly took place at the village of Krągi.

News / For all Americans worried about Schengen in Poland, dont worry about it. [142]

Now expanding this concept even further given that US population is roughly 300,000,000 and the number of Americans of Polish ancestry is roughly 10,000,000 as stated earlier by someone then what do you think of 811 visas in this category that would be granted to Americans? I wonder how many rejects this category alone would generate? LOL

I'm curious as to the level of reciprocity

Level? It all depends on what you mean by it. What I’m purposing is quiet simple really, the amount of foreign pollution within US society in the form of Polish nationals that the US is willing to except each year and vice versa in order to make it fair for both parties concerned. Simple percentage based quota, based on the population size which would absolutely be always equal to that of US. Since there are different types of visas that the US government issues Polish nationals then each type of visa would have to have its own quota factored in but always and I stress always equal to that of US not in number but by percentage of the population on whole.

I.e. Immigrant visa; US sets its yearly numerical quotas for Polish nationals at 6524 so US consuls abroad have no choice but to reject any application that exceeds this number, therefor the same would apply to US with the percentage factored in to make sure it’s absolutely fair. That would put this number at about 811 visas that would be available to the US nationals each year in this category, any application that exceeds this number an automatic reject, similarly for student visa, tourist visa, H1-B visa, etc.

Now I’ll bet that the number of rejects for US nationals summed up from all those categories on yearly bases would be quiet high and we could similarly use it as an excuse of not granting the US nationals an unrestricted visa free travel to Poland and keep this system in place indefinitely. LOL

As for the fees, $140 per application no matter what the outcome as our employees would need to do background checks on all US applicants too, plus the coast of the visa of course.

Btw. I don't think, you've ever seen my pic

If you say so ;)

News / For all Americans worried about Schengen in Poland, dont worry about it. [142]

I'm not sure if Poland can do it. I mean we are part of Schengen Agreement

It’s not a question of "if" this can be done as US itself does not recognize Schengen as a single region for whom the visa is issued but rather the emphasis from their perspective is on individual countries within this region. Therefor Schengen has no jurisdiction in this matter neither with US as it cannot deal directly with US in that matter but neither is Poland bound by the Schengen Agreement since US is not part of it. It will take some brass balls to do it though so the question is "do we have the will." To me personally the Schengen argument as to whether we have the right or not is as ridicules as the number of Americans in Poland as a justification of not looking into this matter further and make some noise. Not doing so we encourage the US government to practice what is clearly a discrimination policy. This imaginary paranoia of being overrun by Poles on their part is baseless and the pathetic excuses for it to justify their bigotry of visa overstay?, well let every man be the judge of that. It may very well be a great selling point and an excuse to their dumbed down domestic audience but at least they have one and a receptive audience judging by the posts in this thread alone. What’s our excuse for not reciprocating? Our politicians don’t even have a decency to come up with one, their self-interest is self-evident and their constant ass kissing simply repulsive. Some insignificant insect pretending to be a great statesman in the form of a cowered politician ready to do anything to score some brownie points thinking it will advance his career somehow, always diligent to pucker up at any moment has not only lost my respect but that of his peers, to them he will always be a gofer, the sooner it sinks in the better, no matter what he may think of himself he’s here today but gone tomorrow, nothing to show for his effort. It’s time for a new breed of politicians that requires a drastic change and break with the old way of doing business. After 20 years of the same the opportunity presents itself, just grow some balls and take it.

I was talking about "our" (SHT's and mine) little problems in the past

What problem? You are way too sensitive for a public forum; a little tease becomes a problem? Don’t worry cute, I still remember your picture in your profile and personally I think you’re very attractive girl. The red neck American woman comment, nothing personal, I know how you look and like what I see. Are we all good now?

News / For all Americans worried about Schengen in Poland, dont worry about it. [142]

I don't have any problem with it but none of us will be able to change anything about it.

Speak for yourself, I intend on letting my voice be heard and rally other to do so to those who might be in the position to do something about it, a matter of principal you see not that I have a problem with Americans.

I hope you realize that whatever will be done about it in Poland, won't change much at all for the 300 mln of non-Polish Americans

I do but that’s not the point of it all, is it?

I'm sure 99% of Americans visiting Poland are of Polish origin

So; they have the right to enter Poland on polish passport, no visa and no punishments, everyone else though luck.

I personally see it that way, countries which show no interest to make me visit them (in making laws that don't suit my vacation plans), simply won't see me.

Feeling is mutual, I’m sure.

why even worry about it?

No worries babe, just a demand for standard way to do policy something that’s long overdue.

News / For all Americans worried about Schengen in Poland, dont worry about it. [142]

I only replied to SHT and what I basically meant was that comparing to Poles in the US, there are not really many Americans in Poland

Good let’s keep it that way, shall we.

Poland and that's why there's no need for any restrictions for Americans.

But there is, it’s called policy of reciprocity, quite a few countries have imposed it on US, i.e. China charges $140 for a US citizen to get a tourist or transit visa to the PRC, so does Brazil although I’m not sure of the fee. Btw; Brazil does not enforce visa’s for more than 60 countries including EU, that's doubled the number for US, so if you want to inconvenience others you should also be prepared to be inconvenienced in the process. I for one particularly favor the Chilean reciprocity, not only do they charge US and other visitors exactly what their countries charge, after all fair is fair but they do it at a special little counter to one side before their passport control, which for some mysterious reason is curiously understaffed, the result of which is a nice long line, from which these so called privileged souls can watch everyone else waltz right by.

Because visa process is a reciprocal policy then if country A asks for a visa for visitors to it or even those in transit through it from country B then country B will similarly ask for visas for visitors to country B from country A. As you can see your irrational pathetic excuse for Poland not doing so because there is not enough Americans in Poland does not apply and Poland has every right to do it if that’s our wish. Our politicians will soon stop kissing US a** as the outcry from those who are affected by this baseless discriminator policy of US government. You yourself had given figures here so do the math, how many of that 10 million have actually a close family there and a potential of dissatisfaction with the status quo? Dissatisfaction translates into domestic votes something every politician cares about be it Polish or American and the patience is running thin for those who have a relative there, empty promises won’t do the trick anymore, time to do something about it. The pressure on our politicians will only grow with time simply because a grandma can't attend her grandsons' first communion, graduation, whatever.

places they go is Caribbean or Mexico (Cancun)... :)

In their wildest dreams perhaps, you’ll be surprised, I heard that Wisconsin Dells is the choice destination for those that live in Chicago area, with a well deserved name as honeymoon capital of Midwest, further up north it's the Mall of America ans so on for each region.

Im not worried about Schengen

Damn right you shouldn’t be, as US does not recognize it as a single territory for which a universal visa law applies but neither should Poland when dealing with US since the change in visa requirement would not affect the Schengen region only the outsiders. Time to seriously rethink our options here and act on it.

Life / What do you generally think about Poles? [62]

So I'm supposed to judge 38 million people as a collective despite them having different travel experiences and genetics? Come on ;)

Why not? Everyone else does it all the time, think of it as a Borg collective, now out with it. ;)

their taste buds are branching out through travelling but they are still pretty bland and samey when it comes to their palate.

You’re not lying, my got used to jalapeños already time for something more exotic.

they were obviously very "successful" otherwise we wouldn't have a muppet of a president here too.

A Muppet preceded by a Marionette, how appropriate, wouldn’t you say?

it's about dressing up like a slut and putting on a show, that's all.

Flaunt it while you still got it and if you can make some money in the process, why not? After all isn’t it the American way?

Off-Topic / How do Polish people operate? what makes them tick? [103]

The recent tornados we experience here were devastating as well as the floods, but when you look at the news, the people here are positive, they will rebuild, they even joke about it

Correct me if I’m wrong but I heard the nasty rumor that in order to give help to the tornado victims they have to cut spending somewhere else. The bankruptcy starts to rear its ugly head and Katrina was just a sign of how those types of disasters will be handled in the near future in US.

Polish men are pigs

I gather you didn’t have many dates while in Poland, wonder why?

the pee all over the buildings and it stinks so bad. Must be because they drink all the time.

Sort of like a stanch in New Orleans on Mardi Gras, you must have felt at home, but at least you don’t see a woman squat in the middle of a street with hundreds of people around to do her business and drinking a hurricane while doing it. I must admit, talented she was.

Must be because they drink all the time.

Yap my impression too.

And why do they smoke so much in Poland?

To annoy loud mouth Yanks.

I can go on, but going to the circus now.

That’s where you belong.
