News / Polish girl, 16, found dead at school after complaints of racist bullying [29]

Very, very sad in an case

Very sad indeed. The newspapers are saying she'd had quite a troubled adolescence. Far too many young people die this way.

No real evidence she was being bullied - and in the current school culture this is dealt with swiftly. She'd complained online a few times that none of her friends liked her - she sounds a very fragile kid.

UK, Ireland / A new mayor in London: opinion of Polish people in the UK? [317]

He's a Pakistani Muslim... like Obama is a Kenyan Muslim

Aside from the silly and inaccurate comment about President Obama's religion, Sadiq Khan is very much a Londoner, born and bred.

Sad to see so many haters, but unfortunately we have come to expect this irrational fear of the future from certain posters.

News / Adam Michnik awarded for integrity, professionalism and high standards. Poland's No. 1 fascist? [321]

500+ would strain the poor state budget

Which they're now trying to fund by taking it from the very organisations that support poor families.

Spectacularly stupid, to fund poor families having even more kids by removing the support structures which exist precisely because of poor families with kids.

Somethign like the Jews who are said to believe: "If you don't cheat a goy early on, it's a wasted day"

Oh dear...

In a legal sense, no. In a practical "don't go there, even the cops avoid that place" yes

It's a myth that there are areas that are unpoliced, and rough areas are rough areas regardless. Nothing new and bad neighbourhoods long predate large-scale migration.

And a number of muslim majority neighborhoods are generally very hostile

Having lived in three such neighbourhoods and worked in a couple of others I can say that your

very hostile to non-muslims and discourage them from visiting or staying there

thing simply isn't true.

And very few posts in the thread about the excellent Mayor Sadiq Khan. Just yet another thread full of posts about Muslims, mostly from people who have very little day-to-day contact with Muslim migrants or citizens.

No go zones do exist

There are no no-go zones in Europe. Rough areas exist regardless of the background of the inhabitants. And neighborhoods in France or Belgium are nothing to do with the hugely popular Mayor of London!

What racist nonsense you post. What sort of person would even bother writing all that, especially when they live thousands of miles away.

Life / Poland is safe to visit - "Daily Mail" [100]

I really do despise these North American posters who have no knowledge of Europe trying to use what they learn on the internet to further their thinly-veiled agenda

Exactly. School bullying nowadays is taken more seriously in the UK than almost anywhere else, the UK is one of the least xenophobic societies in the world, the school she attended has quite a few other Polish kids, we don't know yet about the bullying, who did it or even if it happened at all and teenage suicides in developed countries are all too common.

But hey, some Canadian teenager with a chip on his shoulder and no personal experience of either the UK or Poland decides to make long posts online about it...

Actually no. The crime is so severe that if the polish so-called courts ignored it or dragged their heels, a private prosecution would be easy.

Anyway, there will doubtless be a civl case in the UK.

She will have to be found guilty of the offence in Poland before he can take it any further here.

Sort of. It could be done without however it would be much more expensive.

but getting the awarded sum will prove very hard.

That's become a lot easier recently.

No, she is not obliged to go to the UK court (the country she has nothing to do with) just because he decided so.

Actually Wulks, yes, she does. She is very much obliged to respond to a lawsuit against her. She can choose to ignore a summons however that would mean she were I represented and the judge would decide whether to appoint a lawyer on her behalf.

Although it may upset you personally Wulkan that an injured person can sue for compensation in their own jurisdiction, that is the law, and it is easy to collect the damages.

Its up to the Polish legal system to deal with it, and from what I've heard from the legal system in the UK it is, one rule for Poles and another for any foreigner

This is sadly very true and will sooner or later become an issue however regardless of the criminal case involving the woman, the civil case for damages (and the photos suggest he is damaged) can be (and should be if the guy's got half a brain) under English or Scottish (if he lives, works there or has property there) law. Not sue what you mean by UK law - do you mean English law?

am surprised myself.i used bleach without gloves and never had any burns

It was probably some commercial stuff, much stronger than supermarket bleach and if she was handling the hazardous materials as part of her job, she should be expected to know the safety issues. And ignorance of the possible extent of the crime you've committed isn't a defence, just a possible mitigation that a judge is likely to ignore.

nothing, they will not put her in prison for a civil suit settlement debt.If he gets a settlement even for 100k how will he collec

Your evident lack of expertise, your ignorance and your reckless abandon as shown in your post above in the field of debt collection perhaps explains certain events in your life however to summarise:

- the woman is accused of throwing a corrosive liquid in a man's face
- she worked in a bar where he and other witnesses were customers
- there is no suggestion of self-defence
- the man is badly injured
- a criminal prosecution is likely to occur in Poland
- this does not affect his right or ability to sue for compensation under English law
- if guilty, the maximum criminal penalty for this offence is severe
- if guilty, the amount of civil compensation is likely to be vast
- a debt to a court in one part of the EU can be enforced in any other part of the EU
- debts in Poland stay with you for life and attachment of earnings is common
- debts can also be inherited

Hard to know quite what you mean there however you should remember that within the EU debt collection is very easy and a legally enforceable debt can follow you for life in a jurisdiction that doesn't have the English concept of personal bankruptcy. In Poland where debts can be inherited the situation for her is especially bleak.

a non-profit, non-partisan thinktank

It is a far right organisation - it exists to promote a regressive and reactionary viewpoint.

That's all I read of your post, the rest looked too long and had stuff ranting in bold type. Probably stuff slandering Jewish people too, if not denying the holocaust.

The fact remains that however much it upsets you, the people of London voted for Mayor Khan (a very good man, and popular across a broad range of the community) by a very health majority...

News / Why has the US dollar reached almost 3.99 zł in Poland? [56]

If PiS does it, then plus good!

Spot on - in fact this is PiS (and those posters here, mostly abroad or non-citizens who support them) whole approach to the economy. Yes, there are interesting and scary things right now in the global economy, however the swift reversal in Poland's fortunes after a less business-friendly party took office is extreme and likely to get worse.
