I would spare a tip but I don`t want to reveal the secret of the next photo. After guessing this one, you will easily "do" the first.

Boys, it means that for all other guys who don`t run their own businesses or aren`t expats Poland is an unaffordable place to work and live in.

Do you know what would have already happened if it was true?

UK and others would have been invaded by 36 million instead of 2.

Gendarmes - white belts, scarlet berets, and scarlet patches (with ŻW white stylized lettering and yellow flame) on the left sleeve.
If they are from Kraków Branch then they have some tough customers to deal with.

Yes!

including right to arrest civilians or even use of deadly force if necessary.

Yes, even stingers. Next one: Where are the men sitting?:

News / Why are many Poles anti-Euro2012 [16]

A big PR stunt designed to show off and promote something but not quite succeeding.

Jon, I promise we will get back to this thread in a year or two to compare the statistics of tourism in Poland before and after EURO. :):):):)

Oh, I see. So you didn`t do much sightseeing in and around Krakow. First years of medicine are very exhausting.

So, next riddle. What are the typical tasks of this Polish military formation?

Life / Is it common in Poland to reduce the km numbers of the cars? [11]

Fine, you're not, maybe its because you probably know what fuel injection or a differential is. If you know a lot about cars, repairs, etc, then sure, it's easy to spot when your being ripped off. The vast majority don't and do get ripped off.

You are probably right - yes, I know sth about cars and what I don`t know of can always be explained to me by a certain befriended mechanic.

But I would never sell a "made up" car - it would be totally beyond/against my nature.

And I don`t believe that I am the only person like that in Poland. There must be more of us.

That is why I told you to cut down on generalising. If you felt offended, I am sorry, but you should also take my feelings into account.

News / Poland's Economy Is Booming! The EU's Success Story? [711]

In my kitchen right at this very moment is a Polish person related to my wife who we are helping set up in the UK to escape Polish poverty.

Probably my student who cut school, didn`t read a single book and displayed a total reluctance to studying.

Sorry, it isn`t my fault, though sometimes I do blame myself for not being able to infuse some knowledge into those hopeless guys.....

Life / Which services is Poland still waiting for? [218]

Don't you get any results when typing "pralnia samoobsługowa <cityname>" in google?

No, I didn`t get any results because I never tried to get ones. Sorry.

But I will try, I promise.

For Kraków I get at least a few websites that look promising.

Holy shyt! You are right! :) There are about 5 - some since 2007.

BTW, I suppose the biggest local group of customers would be students.

Yes, though it is strange. I used to visit my uni mates in their dorms, scored a few nice parties there in 1980s. I saw washing machines in shared kitchens. I thought it is a standard facility in dorms.

Life / Which services is Poland still waiting for? [218]

You are quite right. I forgot about travellers.

But....

Do you think that foreign capital which deals in laundrettes didn`t consider opening such outlets in Poland? I am sure they did. And they decided that travellers wouldn`t provide enough profit, as native local demand is going to be near zero.

History / Why are Jews pestering Poland for "proper" WW2 monetary restitution/reparations? [750]

first I'm hearing that Poland paid compensation to the US, which included money due to former polish jews in the US. When did that happen?

It was specified in Poland USA 1960 treaty in which

Under the US-Polish agreement in question, Poland undertook to pay $40 million to the US government over 20 years to compensate "nationals of the United States . . . against the Government of Poland on account of the nationalization or taking by Poland of property and of rights and interests in and with respect to property."

but Am Jews reject it as :

Simply put, the 1960 agreement does not apply to Holocaust survivors with claims regarding Polish properties since they were not nationals of the United States "at the time the loss accrued, or the injury was suffered or the claim accrued or arose."

thejewishweek.com/editorial_opinion/opinion/polands_foreign_minister_misspeaks_restitution

My current opinion:
1. Individuals who are able to prove their ownership must be repaid/compensated fully by the Polish state or local councils.
2. Jewish organizations should turn to US government for compensation.

History / Why are Jews pestering Poland for "proper" WW2 monetary restitution/reparations? [750]

Poland, as a state, doesn`t owe anything to Jewish organizations in the USA.

Reasons:

1. Anybody can come to Poland and in Polish courts claim his/her rights to properties/real estate which belonged to their Jewish ancestors before, during or after WW2.

2. American Jewish organizations are frauds. They embezzle their own funds. E.g., infamous SInger who first shouted "[m]ore than three million Jews died in Poland and the Polish people are not going to be the heirs of the Polish Jews. We are never going to allow this.... They're gonna hear from us until Poland freezes over again. If Poland does not satisfy Jewish claims it will be publicly attacked and humiliated." and then he was fired from WJC for fraud.

haaretz.com/news/israel-singer-fired-from-wjc-for-allegedly-embezzling-funds-1.216275

3. The following quote suggests that US Jews should turn to US government for moral and financial compensation: Foreign Minister Sikorski declared on Polish Radio that "the United States gave up the right to represent its citizens in such cases" under a 1960 treaty, "and took the burden upon itself to pay out restitution money worth millions which Poland had already paid to the United States," adding gratuitously that "if the United States would have wanted to help Polish Jews, a good moment for that would have been 1943-44, when the majority of them were still alive."

Work / Salary and cost of living information - Krakow [257]

I eat only lamb and chicken as meat.

Ooops. Bad news first. Lamb, as not too popular, is very expensive in Poland.

The best option is to buy a lamb and process it on your own. 300 PLN for a 16-18 kilo lamb.

s

young jagniaki ( inks ) weigh about 16-18 kg -price 300 zł
older sheep ( inks ) about 25-30 kg - price 250
Breeding sheep at the same prices
Herd is under veterinary care , the whole farm is within the ambit of agri- environmental program
Cultivation of rolled based on 100% of natural feed
possibility of greater amounts of Sales
if you wish to purchase , please contact us

And good news for a change. Chicken, as very popular, is very cheap in Poland.

While there is a significant difference in prices on many items, it's simply not enough to compensate for the difference in wages. And, as we all know, the prices of many goods (e.g. electricals) are almost identical. I do a fairly normal job, but one which is now at degree-level upon qualification. Yet I earn quite a good wage over here, but would NOT earn a good wage in Poland.

Yes, probably.

I earn six times as much as I would in Poland

Me, on the contrary. :):):)

Come to think of it, I can't think of anything which is genuinely cheaper in Poland (if you consider local wages).

Do you still think so? :):):)

Life / Require a few pointers on Do's and Dont's in Poland [25]

And any other pointers on do’s and don’ts in public too will be highly appreciated…..

Don`t pick your nose or ear in public.

If you do, do it discreetly, but never ever raise your hand to look at the stuff you pick up.

Don't call Poles "Pollacks" and you should be fine lol ;)

Calling Pollaks in Poland Pollacks is OK. :):):):)
