News / Most Poles believe current Sejm (Parliament) in Poland will be better [64]

most often I hear that the best Polish president was ... Kwasniewski

That's the general opinion I hear (even from very anti SLD types). The trick is he did very little and mostly stayed out of the scrum unlike Wałęsa and Kaczyński (too soon to tell about Duda). And he could generally say the right things at the right time (despite occasional public inebriation), unlike the wooden Komorowski who seemed perpetually bored and could not think on his feet.

On tv Duda was very.... unimpressive when talking about the Paris attacks leading me to wonder how well he can think on his feet when he hasn't had time to practice the talking points handed to him by he-who-we-must-not-name

Polonia / What About The Poles In The Netherlands? [102]

a piece of advice! Travel and see places instead of relying on "Youtube" BS.

Do you have any evidence that the video (just one example) is fraudulent? Or are you playing argument from authority and conveniently disregarding any information from sources that displease you or conflict with your fossilized world view?

I have personally NEVER seen anything of the sort

This is the mentality that is leading the EU into ruin. If I've never seen it that means it doesn't exist! If it doesn't affect me, then it doesn't affect anyone!

Another reason to not allow large scale muslim migration to Poland since muslims like taking up public space with their prayers. Ta da!

What to do with Poles in Holland?

Poles are better in-migrants in Europe (including the Netherlands) than muslim groups. They're sometimes involved in petty crime but no terrorism and they go on welfare at lower rates than muslim groups.

Sensible policy that would benefit the citizens of the Netherlands (including muslim ones) would be to drastically limit muslim in-migration as they mostly don't carry their weight.

Religion is considered only as a private matter in France

So it would be impossible for groups to block traffic for public prayer in violation of the law.... oh, wait

Blacks and Muslims have a hell of a time to be hired because of racism and xenohobia

Three points.
Blacks and Muslims (for various reasons) tend to have .... less than stellar academic qualification.

French labor laws make it hard to fire people and this means employers are risk adverse. If French employment were loosened up somewhat maybe more would take a risk.

There's also the problem that if you hire a muslim at some point they're liable to cause trouble about they way they or others dress or people keeping pork in the communal fridge or pig figurines on their desk or want a reduced schedule for Ramadan etc (these are all real cases)

News / Poland's election winning party: PIS proclamations [229]

The only reason he backed out of doing it already is that the electorate were livid that Szydło wasn't even getting a chance.

Yes, her term as PM is clearly not what was really wanted by the PiS leadership. It is interesting and heartening how intense the blowback was to the initial suggestions of dumping her in favor of Glinski. I disagree with a lot (most) of her policy but in the campaign she was offering a different brand of PiS (which is what voters wanted - a change) and the party will lose a lot of support without her.

Work / How to find work in Warsaw "if u don't speak Polish" ! [176]

you'll find that a lot of people like to speak to foreigners in English

Short term visitors for a few minutes here and there? Sure, why not?

Longterm visitors who don't want to expend the effort to learn Polish?....erm not so much. Co-workers who need someone to translate everything that happens? Also not.

No one in Poland expects new arrivals or tourists to know Polish, but if someone wants to live here long term then they need to learn. All the excuses for not doing so amount to some combination of laziness, entitlement and stupidity. None of those are attractive features in a longterm resident.

News / Poland's election winning party: PIS proclamations [229]

Anyone who believes the BS being concocted and churned out by Telewizja Nonsensowa (TVN) and Gówniane Wieści (GW) should have his head examined!

In your Poland, people would only have access to PiS approved media.... For their own good of course.

News / Poland's election winning party: PIS proclamations [229]

PiS winning outright means that they'll have absolutely no possibility of blaming anyone other than themselves when it all falls apart.

You're not very familiar with them, are you?

Life / Are there any Muslim areas in Poland? [173]

Poland is also highly likely to enforce the law with them - they aren't going to be allowed to settle here permanently.

I was assuming they'd be "allowed" to settle here but that the government would turn a blind eye to them when they scamper back to Germany

And then they'd pull a Sargeant Schultz...

News / Don't read "Gazeta Wyborcza" Polish newspaper -- wPolityce.pl [83]

Creating and promoting resilient, dynamic, indigenously Polish entrepreneurship should be a government priority although it hasn't been in previous governments so far

Creating gigantic unfunded mandates (like the 500 zl child payment) will not do a single thing to help Polish entrepreneurship.

The basic fact of the matter is that Poles would rather work for large international corporations (which often have printed employment policies and fairly transparent promotion policies and paths of promotion) than small family companies which have earned a reputation for screwing over employees and bypassing talented outsiders in favor of promoting meathead son who promptly drives the business into the ground.

Also, the individual stores in a chain have some degree of support from other outlets. I was recently buying shoes (at a Polish chain) and they didn't have the shoes I wanted in the size that fit. A small private store would try to sell me something else. The people in the store just got on the phone and found another outlet that had the shoes I wanted in the right size. They earned more customer loyalty through that than trying to get me to buy something else. And this is not a native innovation but practice learned from the larger international chains.

The more limits you place on employment the less employment there will be. This is an iron law of economics (like gravity in physics) that there is no way around.

News / Don't read "Gazeta Wyborcza" Polish newspaper -- wPolityce.pl [83]

Only the government of the United Right is in a positon to do so.

It never ceases to amaze me how much of the standard PiS party line (supposedly rabidly anti-communist) could be lifted straight from 1954 or 1978 or 1982 with just a change of word or two here and there.

I keep having the feeling that Kaczyński liked the People's Republic style just fine, he was just teed that he wasn't one of the party bigshots saying comforting things to the proletariat.....

every decent government's prime duty is to protect its own country's interests

I actually agree with this, I just don't think that that's PiS's primary concern (or alternately and more kindly) their ideas mostly won't accomplish that worthy goal.

Exactly, PiS are playing it fantastically here. They know that the poorest in society have no choice -

I think they're counting on their electorate not being able to associate increased benefits = higher taxes (or think they won't be affected by the taxes, somehow......)

Work / Information about jobs for Indian students in Poland [286]

Is it possible to get white collar jobs for an MBA(HR) person and fluent english speaker.

Winning the lottery is possible, but without Polish you're nothing special on the Polish employment market.

how many months does it take to become a fluent polish speaker?

Years, not months. It's extremely hard at the beginning, then gets harder, then gets even harder, then gets a lot easier.

News / Roman Polanski accused of unlawful sex with a minor [403]

he'd already served some time.

My understanding is that that was therapy and/or analysis and not imprisonment. I'm assuming the results would have been known to the judge and maybe that's why he was possibly about to reneg on the plea bargain...

News / Roman Polanski accused of unlawful sex with a minor [403]

@Maf: you do NOT know anything re DSK's situation

You're getting confused, I wrote nothing about DSK, just Polański who pled guilty to sexually assaulting a minor and then ran away rather than face the consequences (both of these points are beyond dispute quite removed from citizenship issues)

I don't think he should be extradited but I find it fitting that he has to keep looking over his shoulder to avoid the reach of the law....

News / Poland Parliamentary elections 2015 [1060]

Even now, Comrade Polonius3 is at work with his thesaurus to properly excorciate the pseudo-Prussian anti-patriotic hochstaplers of Posen. All offenses to the party must be eradicated!

Ports have always been, wild, unroly, wide-open places full of brawling drunken sailors, tarts, blackmarketeersm, gambling dens and bordellos

Write about the imperialist running dogs, pleeeeease! It's too bad you don't like Urban you have _exactly_ the same style. Two peas in a pod, as it were.

Is Gerry or Hun less offensive to you?

I have a lot of German ancestory so it's not more offensive, Pollack.

KRAUT CATHOPHOPBES

Isn't "Kraut" an ethnic slur? Is this in accordance with forum policy?

Personally I think Polonius3 missed his true calling. He was born a few decades too late and a continent away, but he would have fit right into Stalinist Poland. I can totally imagine him writing for Trybuna Ludu in the 1950's, 60's and 70's.

His values might be a little different but he has the no holds barred propaganda style down pat.

News / Roman Polanski accused of unlawful sex with a minor [403]

rance as a democratic country entitles all their citizens to fair trials but unfortunately in most countries, fair trials do not exist and some countries even have death penalty

Fair trials and the death penalty are not mutually exclusive....

The PF's underclass mob

The mask slips.....

Again, I think this is signalling. PiS wants to signal to voters something about traditional values (misguided but almost anything that condemns the sexual abuse of children is fine with me) and let Polański know that he is persona non grata in Poland (which is very fine with me).

He can stay in France, a nice country, I'm told. There's no reason for him to ever leave French soil.
