News / Demonstrations in Poland in defence of democracy. [2554]

Except they're not. There's no "foreign financing" - that's just yet another poor PiS smear used against any opposition. And "my crowd" is very much Polish, as witnessed by the fact that I use Polish exclusively when meeting with my section.

History / Rajmund Kaczyński not in PZPR [43]

Dude was a friggin corporal in the AK, a squad (several soldiers) commander during the Warsaw Uprising.

So he was an officer.

No amount of abuse will change the facts as Harry posted them.

Such people are going to find it interesting

It's very interesting. It certainly shows how the twins used the old PRL system to acquire power, and why many of their recent tactics (votes in the middle of the night, hounding innocent professors, etc) are based entirely on what lessons were learnt then.

What's happening with KOD Delph?

Latest news is this initiative - komitetobronydemokracji.pl/obywatelski-projekt-ustawy-o-zmianie-ustawy-o-trybunale-konstytucyjnym/ - basically, a citizen's initiative to change the law.

It's all quiet because of Christmas, but because of the PiS actions (changing the result of votes that they don't like, PRL-style) recently, I expect demonstrations as soon as this holiday nonsense has finished.

January will be very, very loud, I think.

News / Demonstrations in Poland in defence of democracy. [2554]

Amusingly, despite the claims posted earlier in this thread by PiS supporters that claimed that Gazeta Wyborcza reported 200,000 people.

m.niezalezna.pl/74391-przepraszamy-gazetapl

We apologize for the publication of incorrect information about the portal Gazeta.pl.We alleged that Gazeta.pl said that the demonstration "Obywatele dla demokracji" on 12 December 2015 was attended by 200 thousand, depicted by a false screen from the alleged homepage of Gazeta.pl. This information we drew from a false and manipulated source on the Internet.

PiS media caught lying again!

Real Estate / Refusal for a mortgage in Poland [18]

For a start, stay away from PKO, they haven't got a clue about anything unusual. The rubbish about "stopping foreigners" is just that - rubbish.

The rules have been considerably tightened up, which is true - but if you've got 6k a month in hard cash coming in from a reliable source, it shouldn't be a problem. You should try Citi Handlowy or ING, both of whom are a bit more clued up.

History / Rajmund Kaczyński not in PZPR [43]

The matter is fishy to say the least; has been asked for some years now without a satisfactory answer.

I think we'll see the question brought up sooner rather than later. Someone with parliamentary immunity needs to ask him straight to his face how it all transpired, but we all know that they'll just cut the microphone.

You seem obsessed with the idea of people opposing the government being deported or sent to prison. Why is that?

Remember Polonius, EU citizens can't be deported except in very very limited circumstances. Opposing the government isn't one of them.

Worth pointing out that they've now admitted that there's not enough money to fund the 500zł per child promise and that there will have to be limits/regulations/etc - in other words, another electoral promise broken. Likewise with the increased tax-free base - the Ministry of Finance has made it clear that there simply isn't the money available to enact that promise.

Anyway, it turns out today that Ziobro is now using his power to yet again settle personal vendettas.

They lacked expertise on how to organise, run and design things, hence engineers and educated people were worth their weight in gold and they could affair to overlook their partylessness.

You're suggesting that Rajmund was that even worse kind of beast - the type that collaborated?

The President has done nothing illegal so there is nothing to protest.

Incorrect. He has explicitly signed the latest TK law despite the fact that it contains clearly unconstitutional articles.

Furthermore, he's a liar.

Oh, and of course, we mustn't forget that Duda is ignoring published decisions by the TK. He is duty bound to follow their decisions, and he has failed to do so. For all your American claims of him having a "pocket veto", no such concept exists in Polish law.

Still, Duda will no doubt enjoy himself in prison as being the first European ex-President to go to prison for a very long time.

History / Rajmund Kaczyński not in PZPR [43]

Indeed that you are clueless about polish history?

Looks like you're the clueless one. Stalinism might have only officially started in 1948, but the TRJN was very much controlled by the Communists from 1945 onwards. AK officers didn't get to re-enter their studies straight away, nor did they get nice cushy positions straight after graduation.

Rajmund Kaczynski went from being an officer in the AK to being a highly favoured university student and then on managerial position in a state company in the year of his graduation and then promptly on to teaching the children of the elite at Poland's finest technical university

Quite.

Quite incredible that such a non-Party man would be allowed to go anywhere near the children of the elite.

History / Rajmund Kaczyński not in PZPR [43]

Well, well, well. You're right, he was either a lieutenant or second lieutenant (it doesn't seem to have an exact comparison), which means that he was an ex-AK officer and yet his career flourished at the end of the war during Stalinism.

There's only one conclusion there.

History / Rajmund Kaczyński not in PZPR [43]

Rajmund was no different than millions of his non-PZPR-belonging compatriots.

A man who went straight from being an officer in the AK to being a highly favoured university student and then on managerial position in a state company in the year of his graduation and then promptly on to teaching the children of the elite at Poland's finest technical university.

That's not what I would call "no different".

When the Kaczyński twins were studying at uni all qualified students could study if they passed their entrance exams.

Untrue. There was still heavy manipulation going on, and entry into law was very much controlled. You didn't get near law studies if you weren't reliable politically.

Having a father in the AK was no longer the obstacle it had been under Stalinism. Stalinism ended in 1956 when the twins were 7 years old.

So you admit that being in the AK was an "obstacle" under Stalinism. Yet Rajmund didn't just survive, he flourished. How?

But written under the inspiration of ex-commie president Kwaśniewski over the strong opposition of Soldiarity, the Church and all patriotic, anti-communist forces.

Nice bit of historical revisionism there. The truth is that the Constitution was voted in by the National Assembly with 451 votes for, 40 against and 6 abstentions.

Didn't Jarosław Kaczyński vote "za" in the vote?

News / Demonstrations in Poland in defence of democracy. [2554]

Indeed. I wonder if the poster known as "dolnoslask" is intentionally turning a blind eye to PiS appointing ex-communist after ex-communist to leading roles within the Party.

I certainly know some people attending the demonstrations who were committed anti-Communists (not turncoats in 1989) who point out that the PiS methods of taking over the State are very similar to how Communist parties of old did so.

When have left wing liberal rabble rousing communists been protesting in Poland?

If you're referring to KOD, you really need to attend a demonstration in person rather than relying on the right wing media.

But this isn't about them, it's about Rajmund Kaczyński.

Harry : you forgot that both of his sons were able to enter (and complete) law studies, with one of them (Jarosław) even being able to start studying towards becoming a public prosecutor in the PRL.

Koryta Translates as Trough (the thing that the Bolshevik piglets fed from) great analogy of the KOD supporters I think.

Have you been to a demonstration? You would soon find out that many people demonstrating are against PiS because they already lived through one totalitarian system and they have no desire to go back there.

News / Poland's President-Elect Duda leads in public trust - CBOS poll [185]

Personally I'd be fairly tempted to have a flutter at quite short odds (but not at odds on).

Need to investigate. I've got a pretty good idea of what the opposition strategy will be, and given that Duda's shown himself to be an obedient spineless puppet in every sense of the word, I can't see him surviving it.

History / Rajmund Kaczyński not in PZPR [43]

An AK freedom-fighter, after the war he belonged to the Teachers' Association and Ex-Servicemen's Union, both of which were commie-controlled.

That sentence alone tells you all you need to know about Rajmund Kaczyński.

Meanwhile, his fellow men and women were being persecuted, imprisoned, tortured and worse.

Work / Any Speed School of English in Poland? [54]

The sheer amount of transference errors from Polish in the post above should be enough for any native speaker of English to understand that it's obviously a representative of the school posting here and not a genuine ex-teacher.

Work / WANT TO MOVE from Morocco TO POLAND - job as a customer service? [17]

First of all by locals as they usually do not require being native speakers and languages such as German, French or Spanish are (relatively of course) commonly spoken here.

In Wrocław, it's actually very easy to get such an entry level job with English+French+Arabic. Qatar Airlines for instance will hire anyone with a pulse if they speak those languages, but of course, the salary is garbage and the job isn't much better than working in a factory.
