News / Have PO (Platforma) operatives in Poland fallen into a panic? [332]

PiS

It actually stands for Patriotyzm i Szalchetność (patriotism and noble-mindedness).
PO = Perwersja/Oszustwo (perversion/deceit).
You're entitled to your musing, rambling and nostalgia - there's no law against it. That's all that will be left of the Platfusy very soon.

Platforma Obywatelstwa has a long future to look forward to

Yes indeed -- in memory lane. Grannies will tell their grandkids: Once upon a time there were three tenors who set up a political party... Through clever propaganda they managed to pull the wool over the public's eyes and got to rule for all of eight years. But they were finally caught onto and seen through....

government with Platforma

Maybe a virtual PO-PSL government can be created as a computer game with the Platfusy spewing hate speech v PiS and NIK leader engaged in some new contest-fixing scam. The bad part of it is that it wouldn't sell too well, because Poles have had their fill of the Platformer hate industry. Adveniat regnum PiSorum!

News / Referendum to cost Polish taxpayers nearly 130 mln zl amid uncertain turnout [29]

referendum

Without expressing a view for or against the actual quesitons of Duda's planned referendum, knowing the Poles' low turnout, combining general elections with any current referendum IMHO would be a good and inexpensive way of proceeding. The best of both worlds: direct voter input on a given issue at no extra cost. Separate referenda should be reserved for only the most vital state questoins such as: "Should the Polish Armed Forces march to Ukraine's aid in the face of Russian aggression?" or "Should Poland withdraw from the EU?"

PSL

The PSL is probably the sleaziest and most opportunistic party around. Its leader Sawicki is a sneaky scammer of the first order. Former PM Pawlak ostensibly promoted Polish industry by arriving at the government building, press conferences and other official venues in ....... a Polonez car. But on the outskirts of town he would transfer to a Mercedes.

PSL readily teamed up with the ex-commies, now they back the Platfusy, and they will not hesitate to enter a PiS coaliton to get government slots. Hopefully PM Szydło will see through those greedy bumpkins.

Food / Is black tea disappearing from supermarkets in Poland? [29]

drinking with a little milk added

Known in Polish as bawarka (Bavarian maiden?), tea with milk is fed to nursing mothers (and not all of them can stomach it!), as it's supposed to promote lactation (probably an old wives' tale).

Food / Is black tea disappearing from supermarkets in Poland? [29]

teabags

Never use messy, drippy teabags -- brew herbata only the classic Polish/Russian tea-essence style. In a small teapot you make a strong essence by drenching tea leaves with boiling water and let it steep at least an hour. Then you use as much essence in your cup or glass as you like and top it up with fresh boiling water. An excellent way to gauge the strength you want or need -- something potent to wake you up, something milder for grandpa or junior.

Food / Is black tea disappearing from supermarkets in Poland? [29]

Merged: Black tea being eclipsed by chemically flavoured varieties

A while ago I noted here that black teas were being displaced on supermarket shelves by more and more flavoured varieties, mainly chemically aromatised fruit and herb flavours. It was something every tea shopper could not help but notice but my contrarian Bully Brit adversaries claimed that was not the case. Now Rzeczpospolita has finally taken note of that tendency. The fact that something is called raspberry- or quince-flavoured tea means only that it is aromatised with lab-produced chemicals which never came within a thousand miles of a berry bush or quince tree.

News / Referendum to cost Polish taxpayers nearly 130 mln zl amid uncertain turnout [29]

10-15%

That figure came from the National Election Bureau chief:
polska.newsweek.pl/ile-bedzie-kosztowac-referendum-6-wrzesnia-2015,film,369752.htm

That turnbout estimate seems quite likely. It seems Komorowski went off half-cocked. Now nobody -- neither PiS nor PO nor even Kukiz himself is really urging any turnout or publicising the referendum.

News / Referendum to cost Polish taxpayers nearly 130 mln zl amid uncertain turnout [29]

The 6th September referendum concocted by ex-president Komorowski the Platformer-controlled senate will cost Polish taxpayers some 130 million złotys. The exercise will be in vain if 50% do not turn out nad vote, but the cost will have to be borne anyway. It's amazing how nonchalantly politcians are generous with other people's money! Komorowski's knee-jerk panic at the 21% support Kukiz got prompted him to call a referendum. Although initially the JOW (first-past the-post) election system seemed promising to many, upon reconsideration and observing many foriegn examples (e.g. UKIP) it has raised serious questions.

As noted in the thread (below), adding referendum questions to a parliamentary election ballot (the way Priesdent Duda has suggested) costs next to nothing, but printing seżarate referendum ballot papers runs into the millions.

History / Boycotts of Solidarity's anniversary celebrations. Poland's Solidarity - Now and Then? [16]

very left wing

strange? Duirng the 1980 Lenin shipyard strike and signing of the labour accords, visitng foreign journalists and politicians were amazed at the traditonal, right-leaning atmopshere of those evetns -- the patriotic and religious imagery, priests coming to the yard to hear workers' confessions, workers jointly singing the anthem and reciting the rosary, even the JP2 pen Wałęsa signed the deal with. That contrasted with the lefty, "progressive" (?!), secularist, often anti-clerical stench emanating from many western trade unions.

Of course you can call anything anything. Trade unions are supposed to fight for workers' rights, and you can call that leftist if you like. but it makes no sense. Soldiarność was, is and hopefully will always be a patriotic, pro-family. pro-Catholic trade union no matter how many idiots want to call that leftist.

History / Boycotts of Solidarity's anniversary celebrations. Poland's Solidarity - Now and Then? [16]

believes everything a trade union

Approval or criticism has depended entirely on a given government's performance. Solidarność was part of the government of Jerzy Buzek, and genrally supported the PiS govenrment. It has been critical of the anti-worker policies of the Platfusy. What trade union would support pro-oligarch, pro-corporate and anti-worker policies?

History / Boycotts of Solidarity's anniversary celebrations. Poland's Solidarity - Now and Then? [16]

Merged: Kopacz and PO regime flunkies a disgrace to Poland

PM Kopacz boycotted Solidarity's 35th anniversary celebrations led my President Duda and laid a separatist wreath of her own at the Gdańsk Shipyard. Senate Speaker Borusewicz was invited but did not attend. Lech Wałęsa was conveniently abroad at the time. The PO-led government have again shown they intend to perpetuate the foolish and counterproductive Polish-Polish war they have waged for the past decade and have now zeroed in on Presedent Duda. The PO hate industry is alive and well! The PO-led ruling camp is a disgrace to Poland.

Language / Ambulans displacing karetka - similar meaning of different Polish words? [19]

lachon

Lachon appears to have come from lacha, the augmentative form of laska. But why was a stick chosen in the first place? The prevalent version of feminine beauty has not been the Twiggy look for decades. The same laska is used is for the male organ. wonder if there's any connection.

Other changes in the language include:
**dwa w jednym: a very un-Polish borrowing from English (plentiful in adverts)
**odkryj (direct trsnaltion of many German (entdeck) and English (discover) adverts.
**Od Wedel (from Wedel); proper Polish would be od Wedla or firmy Wedel.
**ciężko powiedzieć: proper Polish = trudno powiedzieć: a calque of it's hard to

PO (Platforma)

Anyone interested in finding out more about the Platfus clique's scams and abuses should check out:
mapaafer.pl

Platforma

PM KOPACZ MAKES DESPERATE LAST-DITCH STAND
With election day approaching and PO survey results dropping PM Kopacz is desperately trying everything she can think of. Besides more of PO's typcial PiS-bashing (which no longer makes the impression on voters it once did), she has been making behind-thre-scenes offers they cannot refuse to oppositon types. She has recruited former PiS deputy PM Ludwik Dorn, ex-commie Napieralski and the late PM Mazowiecki's son Michał. More such coopts seem likely.

PO is thus becoming more and more the refuge of renegade turncoats. The classic example is bugologist Niesiołowski - once a leader of the ultra-rightist nationalist Christian National Union. Former PiS spin doctor Kamiński is an especilaly sleasy opportunist. Ex-commie Arłukowicz as heath min. (since sacked) brought about the veritable collapse of the healthcare system. He promsied to shorten outpatient waiting-room queues, so he cut the time a doctor can devote to a patient from 15 to 5 minutres!!!!

Will Polish voters fall for the Digger's (Kopacz's) new-old bag of tricks?

News / Polish Parents protest against Poland's pro-homo sex education [75]

it will be too late to protest

That is precisely what the homo promoters and their "useful idiots" want: lull the public into indifference and then face them with a fait accompli which may be difficult to reverse. That's why one should be vigilant, "dmuchać na zimne" and not be caught with one's hand "w nocniku".

False. I was reporting what a demo was protesting against. Nothing more, nothing less. But whence your fear or aversion or reluctance to contac the ed min spox? Unless you're just trolling and not really interested in info from the horse's mouth.

the referendum

Komorowski's panicky knee-jerk referendum will be a total fizzle becuase 50%+ of eligible voters will not show up. A huge waste of money which can be listed amongst the PO's numerous other blunders.

homo education in schools

The education minister said sex ed should be based on WHO guidelines and everybody knows that organisaiton is controlled by the pro-homo lobby. She even said it might be better for outside instructors to teach sex ed. The LGBTQ crew is just waitng to get such a foothold.

But if you're that interested why pester posters about it. Get it straight from the horse's mouth. Contact the spox of the Ed Min.

PO won 41.5%

Yes, good thing you used the past tense. You can nostalgically relive the past, even shed a tear, as your political darlings start packing their bags and head for the rubbish bin of history. Good riddance to the Platfusy! But no-one can blame you for reminscing -- there are people in Poland who yearn for the good ol' days of PRL, and in Russia who wistfully recall the "great Stalin era".

simply not true

Truth is of little concern to crazed Church-bashers. Their only purpose is to hunt out some marginal incidents and blow them way out of proportion to fuel their Christophobic fantasies.

The bottom line is that PF has again shown itself up as not being typical of Poland's current Zeitgeist, since most posters sound like paid PO propagandists or unpaid apologists and toadies.

And these are the same hypocrites constantly blathering away about "diversity"!

Teraz K***a My.

YOur feel for Polish is abysmally low, but this colourful slang phrase means nothing more than "now it's our turn". That occurs in every democratic society when there's a changing of the guard.

longest lasting

Cleverly coined and honed propaganda works wonders! The Platfusy deceitfully blamed all their failures on the world economic downturn, the weather and, of course, PiS which they used as a scarecrow to confuse and intimidate voters.

As Lincoln said: You can fool some of the people some of the time....
