History / "SOLIDARNOŚĆ" is just a word for Polish people? [47]

Does that song go on about 'we of the first brigade..duh duh regiment of fire power...duh, duh, we've thrown ourselves into the fire?'

Issy - I told you you were a menthol smoker. Is there a Spandau Ballet t-shirt lurking under that uniform ;-)

I dont think it was just a word. I recall being very young when Solidarnosc inundated Poland. My dad was very happy - you couldn't tear him away from his Solidarnosc t shirt.

I see it as a metaphor for something that Poland did for themselves that really meant something - perhaps akin to the US Bill of Rights?

UK, Ireland / I have concerns over the British immigration policy so I wrote to my MP. [126]

weather tanned

*whispers* The lights from your monitor arent really the suns rays Issy.

Spandau Ballet

Sorry, I meant Dead or Alive ;-)

No sh*t,you dont say,wow...so the ethnic cleansing of the aborigionals and the forced seperation of children from parents happened for 70 odd years under an indipendant Aussie government did it? Ok,youve got the moral high ground back and no mistake.....

Once again you take a post and bend it your own ends. Not surprised really. The warms beer's getting to your head - watch those menthol dregs - they make my head spin too.

thats Uhlarhu or some such you colonialist invador

Now that's just silly Issy. Just between you and me, we both know it was the Poms that invaded Australia (*whispers loudly* Australia wasnt actually a nation til 1901).

Kangaroo shagger, kidnapped any Aborigional kids lately?

Ha ha! Scathing!! I'm picturing a pasty faced Pom with a Spandau Ballet t shirt on waving a fist at the computer screen and the other arthritic hand feebly clutching a glass of warm beer with tobacco dregs. Did I strike a nerve Issy?

You'll keep mate.

remember 1942 aus, lots of "POMS" fighting to save your grubby dusty little island from the nips.....

You again (audible groan)!? You're like that Neville Nobody know it all kid in school who piped in to every conversation with an obscure tid bit of knowledge that no one really cared about or wanted to know. Bloody Pomgolian.

The Aussie diggers did just fine without any help from the Poms thank you very much - we actually lost heaps of good soldiers due to British incompetence (again) resulting in the fall of Singapore.

Don't call my country grubby and dusty. Just because you frantically wiki'd Australia and came up with Ayers Rock doesn't mean it's so.

they have all gone to England in an attempt to sink it.

Is it a case of the sins of the father being visited upon the son?

In actual fact, very few Poles died in active service in World War 2. A few died from 'friendly fire' as the Russians had to fight their way westwards through Warsaw towards Berlin but the truth is, most died from natural causes in the labour camps from dysentery and other common diseases.

Are you deluded? You must be.

I wish this forum had an MP to write to. I'd complain about all the English that have invaded this forum, stealing our posting space, being rude and generally doing what the Poms do best - whinge.

We've got lots of you guys in Australia and Ive worked with heaps of them - they were generally lazy and inept at the quite simple manual tasks they were given. Poms are accepted though in Australia. I wonder if anyone would notice the Poles in the UK if they had English accents? Probably not.

Remember - 1940's England. Lots of Poles then - fighting for you - keeping your children safe - committed to helping you. Perhaps if the debt had been repaid in kind there wouldn't be this influx for obvious reasons.

UK, Ireland / Polish and Irish should love each other [65]

I agree, particularly in respect of the Irish. Poles should remember the assistance the Irish gave to the Poles in their insurrections

History / What was the culture of Poland prior to the advent of Catholicism? [17]

Gday mate

There is a good book called "World of the Ancient Slavs". It's been years, but I'm pretty sure itdeals witht he period youre after. I cant remember the author. The book is a large hard cover one.

Also try Norman Davies' various publications on Poland, but in particular "God's playground". Hope that helps

Australia / I got assignment for Community and Family Studies about Polish Culture in Australia. [7]

Hey guys!

I'm currently in year 12, and doing my major IRP assignment for Community and Family Studies.

I'd be happy to help, but the info would be from my dad as I was born in Oz. When do you need this by?

I suggest you go to your local Polish club. I'm sure some of the oldies would be happy to chat to you.
