Travel / Travel by Motorcycle in Poland (cost, distance, risk?) [47]

Thanks my friend.....

Just got to sort out some more documents , and find out how much its going to cost me to import my Jeep and my Harley into Russia....

i hear it could be 50% or even 100% of the value , and thats their idea of the value...not mine...

Life / What on earth is the fascination of Indians, Pakistanis and Nepalese with Poland? [112]

I think that our enthousiastic promotor of race-mixing, Mr. Lodz_the_Boat prefers to see these posters as fake, so he can continue denying the increasing threat of 3rd world males looking for a white woman.

Its no worse than Polish guys looking for third world women because they can,t get a Polish girl and their mum wants them out of the house...

Travel / Driving to Poland from England - any tips? [264]

Hi, we did consider doing the ferry crossing but im not good on a boat lol,

If you go from Hull , you will sail on the pride of Hull , or the pride of Rotterdam , both are very big modern ships and don,t move about much unless there is really bad weather...

they are not the usual small cross channel rustbuckets....

We are setting of from the midlands about 20 miles from birmingham.

Have you considered getting the ferry from Hull to Rotterdam....

You arrive in Rotterdam 8am after a good nights sleep and a breakfast....

your next breakfast will be in Tarnow...

If we ask to stay on a farm land, what would be reasonable to offer as cash?

Well , considering you would only pay about 5 quid for a two man tent on a proper campsite , you don,t need to be waving large amounts of cash at Mr Polish farmer for pitching a tent in his field , many would be happy to let you stay for free , the Poles are very friendly people , and having guests from another country would be something they would enjoy...

You would be welcome to stay at my farm for free , but if all goes to plan i will be in Russia in August , i am selling my farm to a friend and moving to Moscow , mind you , he is a friendly biker so you could probably stay here anyway...

Zachodniopomorskie , the bit where i live would be a good starting point to begin your travels , its quite pretty , and i could put you in touch with some local Polish bikers that speak English to give you advice on good biking roads , places to stay , and great places to visit...

If you are in this area then Malbork castle is a must see , if you are into steam trains then there is a great place a bit further south that has them running a regular service...There are loads of historic battlefields , bunkers and stuff here , lovely lakes , and lots of fun activities...

i could also put you in touch with an English speaking bike mechanic and auto electrician in this area ...just in case you have any problems...

As i have said before in this thread , there are not any no bikers signs anywhere in Poland....

If you get that ROUGH GUIDE TO POLAND book well in advance of your trip , you can check out whats good to see in Poland and plan your route from it....

Where are you crossing the border into Poland...?

This will make a difference as to what is the best route...

Hi there , you will love it in Poland....

How safe are the bikes , well as safe as you make them , there are people in Poland who would be happy to steal your bike , just as they would in the UK if they got the chance.... and yes , they may take a fancy to your luggage if they think there may be something valuable in it....

There are plenty of places to camp in Poland , and if you are on a camp site your bikes and luggage will be much safer than if left in some place with not so many people about....

Wild camping in some places is not legal , but my experiance of it is....if you are not causing any damage , or setting fire to the forest with an out of control camp fire then the chances are that nobody will bother you...

There are people who patrol and take care of the forest , but they are very few in number , and you are not likely to bump into them unless somebody complains about you , not very likely...

A better idea may be to ask somebody with a small farm if you can camp on their land , this way , nobody can complain , and you may have access to water , or even get invited to a Polish breakfast....you can offer them a bit of cash for the camping , and your bikes will be much more secure on a farm...people do not usually wander onto people farms unless they live there...

How tolerent are the Police.... well i have been riding my Harley with illegal pipes on for over five years now , never had a problem , i have never been pulled for speeding here , but i got stopped about five times without my documents in my pocket , here you used to have to carry them on your person... Well , each time they pulled me they could have given me a hefty fine for not having them , they never fined me once.... Be polite to them , don,t give em a hard time , and you may well get off with a warning , unless you have done something really terrible...

If you see motorists coming the opposite way and flashing their lights at you , they are not just being friendly , they are telling you there is a radar trap ahead.....

Get yourself a book called.. ROUGH GUIDE TO POLAND , and when you cross into Poland get yourself a book called POLSKA ATLAS SAMOCHODOWY... with these two books you will have all the info you need to have a great tour of Poland....

safe riding.. have fun...

Oh , and you need your lights on all the time...its the law....for cars and bikes...

News / RHD cars in Poland - my campaign to change the rules in Poland [128]

there is only one country in the world which outright forbids the registration of RHD cars: Poland.

I didn,t realise Poland was the only place to make things difficult....

Its about time they got their act together then....

Polonia / SHIPPING HOUSE CONTENTS: from Poland to Moscow. Suggest a company? [17]

Maybe it is different in your case cause you'll be moving outside of the EU.

Good luck.

Thanks for your good wishes...best of luck to you too..

I think there may be problems hiring a van , if i tell them its going over the border into the badlands of Russia , and no doubt they will want me to return it to Poland , could be a problem if my visa restrictions do not allow me to leave Russia for a few months untill i have a residents permit...

Russia puts a notice in your passport that you've imported a vehicle

They didn,t stick anything in my passport about my vehicle on any of my trips....but that does not mean they did not make a note of it on some computer...

A while back i took an off road monster to a competition near lake Ladoga , we wrecked in in a bad crash and i gave it to some Russian friends for parts....not had a bill for that yet...?

maybe they will get me on the next trip....?

check if you have to pay duty on your stuff, but since you are relocating, you might be exempted from it.

I hope so... my girlfriend is checking out what the rules are ...

Once we are married it will be a lot easier to cross back and forth across the border , and i will be a resident of Russia rather than a tourist...

Polonia / SHIPPING HOUSE CONTENTS: from Poland to Moscow. Suggest a company? [17]

BTW, did you check if any special cases in tax code is applicable for you

I did not think about that , but i will check it out once we have got moved in , married and all the other stuff....

I will have a look at the cargo.it website , and see what the prices are....

Of course if i decide to move all my things in my own van , i need to check out what the rules are for crossing the border into Russia with a van full of stuff....

All the boxes are labelled as to what the contents are , and i will have a list in Russian to show the border people...

I supose they may want some proof this stuff is my house contents , rather than for sale in Russia....?

Thats really usefull , thanks...I will check out some of these people....

As for the expense of going to the UK , its not a problem , i need to go there anyway to get one final document i need to get married in Moscow , and i also need to buy a newer Jeep as this one is worn out... If i buy a van also the Jeep will stay at my sisters untill i get back over for it , so there will be a bit of flying to the UK to do in any case...

Like Poland , cars in Moscow are much more expensive than in the UK...
