Life / Cigarette prices in Poland [27]

Are cigarette prices the same throughout the country?

Pretty well the same across the country for Marlboro. A supermarket might be a few groszy cheaper than a smaller shop. You can occasionally still find the cheapest at some street markets, though the difference is so small it isn't worth the hassle, even buying in bulk

I realize I need to make sure they have the Polish tax label and not a country outside the EU.

All cigs in Poland (except the Moldovan ones sold by people lurking on street corners) have the excise sticker (tax label).

Yes! It's one of those parties that plenty of active elderly thought they might like joining, and most left because the hardcore activists were just too grizzly for them.

They of course are baby boomers who bought houses when they were cheap, had the protection of strong unions throughout their career, had a completely free education, are still alive due to the NHS and have triple-locked pensions. And want to deny that to anyone younger than them.

Yes. If any country has come to terms with the Holocaust, it's Germany. The memorial in Mitte is deeply poignant, not trying to relativise anything, making no excuses. Just remembering and reflecting.

And no vile displays like the world's cameras saw at Auschwitz this month.

There was a lot more community involvement then, except for the bods who went into 'internal exile'.

PiS obviously hate such structures, because it goes against the idea of such things being decided in Warsaw.

They loathe it. Look at their hostility to WOŚP, despite its popularity.

This is good. Poland has among the lowest level of volunteering in Europe; I'm pleased things are changing. The concept of being community-minded is very hard to explain in PL.

How did they do it from a distance?

They were at Auschwitz on International Holocaust Memorial Day.

Something that should be a place of quiet memory for all those who died. Not a bunch of unhinged fascists waggling banners in order to offend, like monkeys flinging faeces..

Hence their upcoming prosecution by Poland.

Nobody does; she wouldn't lock anyone up in the Tower for not doing so. It's still convention though, and many people do it. One of those things like playing the National Anthem before a performance of Handel's Messiah or having a 'loyal toast' during a provincial dinner dance. It's just something that people in much of Britain tend to.

And if, as the thread says, British men don't really like women, this woman they do like. Apparently 90% of British men have dreamt of having sex with Her...

Me? Dude you labeled and called people demonstrating publicly their views - freaks -

I-S, they aren't "publicly demonstrating their views". You can do that here, you can do that in the pub, you can do that in your house. They were interupting a memorial to people who died in the Shoah nd they'd chosen the very place and time that it would cause the most hurt.

To make it clear. I defend a right of people to publicly express their views, opinions or political likes in a peaceful manner.

Nothing peaceful about loud and agressive people yelling next to the 'arbeit macht frei' gate at Auschwitz on International Holocaust Remembrance Day.

I say show them respect and leave them in peace.

Yes. This should go without saying as an absolute minimun standard of decency.

No you aren't. You made a weird statement without clarifying anything.

Sure, hand them all or shoot them in the back of the head. For the good of humanity of course.

The justice system that will convict them or not on the basis of any evidence supporting the charges is certainly for the good of humanity. That's why it exists, and that's why the prosecutors are involved. They won't be shot 'in the back of the head' though. Even though these individuals are scum, Poland will at least treat criminals humanely.

Odd how there are people sympathetic to the far right. A tendency that systematically killed Jewish people, Poles, and, 'Ironside', the disabled.

Even Finkelstein is way above that level.

The protest was a disgrace. Timed to cause the most offence and the the most media exposure. A bigger disgrace is that wasn't stopped immediately.

There's obviously much bigger news today from Poland, with Kaczynski's fall from grace, however it will be gratifying to see this issue dealt with by the courts.

Spot on. The list of big financial players who've moved all or part of their operations out of the City already is shocking.

Of course the Tory billionaires and their trickledown rich multi-millionaires can hedge against it. The thousands who lose their jobs, managers, cleaners, specilists, canteen ladies, shopkeepers they spend at and everything else as a result of stupidity, credulousness and an onslaught of paid-for propaganda from the Tory rich don't have money in Hedge Funds.
