Language / Ways of Learning Polish (courses, lessons) [21]

I'm learning English by watching youtubers. I choose things that interest me much as cars, electronics, what guarantee not boring me after 5 minutes.

It took months for me to remember how to pronounce awesome and unavailable ;) I think the only way is to repeat after native speaker zillion times per day until you unlock your tongue.

Study / Advice needed for a French student on living in Katowice for a semester [7]

I read somewhere that it can be tricky because owners don't make it easy for foreigners who do not plan to stay for a long time.

They don't make it easy for everyone or don't care. They demand whole amount from "oldest" tenant eg 1600zl for 4 rooms. Then don't contact landlord. Contact tenants.

I also read that polish people, especially young people, speak an OK english in big cities. But is it the case in Katowice as well?

Katowice is quite a big city don't you think? ;)

You are absolutely right. I even cannot imagine how some people are able to learnt it from grammar books. My advice learn it by heart.

Some are, some not. We are heading to the West. At least they still don't lie on the street on Friday night or sit on the ground while waiting for the bus.

No. It is legend. There are a lot of fake Catholics. They go to the church every Sunday but steal in the workplace anything thy can.

I'm definitely not going to the church on sunday morning, nor will I be faking a prayer before a meal

How about the people in Katowice ?

I can't help you here. I never been to Katowice but I heard they don't need to eat. They have everything in smog in the air and mini earthquakes ;)

dealers "auto handlers" comis control the used markets on vehicles?

Yes but they control their own mass of vehicles. Imported from abroad by them. We sell and buy vehicles among family, friends and workmates to avoid surprise. We don't even contact komis. In majority if someone catches a decent car keep it for years or until scrapyard.

It depends. For short "official" visit in nouveau riche castle we don't take shoes off but in blocks in small town we do. If you stay in home with them longer than dinner, evening you can pay respect to hostess effort to keep the floor shiny.

Yes a lot of the yellow boxes are empty but they change location of working surprise frequently. Additionaly there is a Straz Miejska. They are more dedicated to repair the council budget. We don't want you (expense generator) in the jail we want you on the road (income generator) ;)

UPC internet connection? And what are the alternatives?

Every provider has outages. You need a gsm backup. Stable ping tell us about provider quality a lot. Outages not.
Since 2004 I have my brilliant multimedia.pl but recently (in April) crack on the monolith appeared. Outages in the night.
Now everything is fine.

I had the front shocks replaced some time ago and since then there's a crackling noise when I turn, very low in the beginning and now louder.

Isn't there a parking place or an own garage a kind of luxury? ;) I haven't seen many estates with underground parking garages. To be honest I haven't seen many estates.

2. press both OK and RED for a while
3. enter four digit code (you got 20 sec)

4. press STANDBY to check if tv react to command

if not, repeat procedure with another tv code.
if the last code doesn't work you are out of luck and have to change tv brand ;)

Best advice might be not to touch a car without its valid przegład

yup :)

What happens if the car has no przegład

In case of accident an insurance company can break off policy.

Theoreticaly you need a tow truck, pass the mot then you have to visit wydział komunikacji.
During mot no one asks if you are car owner but they ask for 99zł :)

Dobrej pracy jest bardzo mało. Poza tym dobra praca rozchodzi się wśród rodziny i znajomych. Obcokrajowcy w ogóle nie zbliżają się do tych rejonów rekrutacji bo po prostu nie mają jak. Nie odbieraj tego jako niechęć do obcokrajowców.
