My take on it is: take it or leave it. It might be that the student is great to work with and THAT always helps:)

My school tried to lower my wages from time to time and I always bargain. They know that I am not happy with the lowest, so perhaps one day they will stop. I am like a broken record:). That resulted in loosing some hours but I was working many lat year and now I have more free time and make less, but also my taxes are lower. There needs to be a balance.

well, so am I. It was not a book, but a professional material and I believe that somebody got that translation job via connections - there is NO other explanation since the quality was very questionable.

he doesn't have to give a sermon, since most people who live in Poland and drive know that:

- many Polish drivers should not drive at all since they are bad drivers
- many speed up for no reason at all
- many Polish drivers do not respect other drivers
in comparison to other countries such as European and North American ones.

so I am not sure why you are taking things personally when you seem to live in a la la land instead of real world:).

Generally Poles express a certain attitude when driving, which is: I am the King of the road and I am better, which results in lousy driving and many accidents. End of. Not to mention bad roads, which seem to improve here and there but there is a long way to go.

Also, some Poles don't seem to understand that roads, parking spaces and so on are COMMON areas, not their private estates.

many Poles don't get non-Polish food eg. having different taste, more spicy and so on. It is possible that it is genetic and cultural at the same time. Most nationalities like their own food. So food should be off this thread since we cannot really discuss taste.

I know from my students that some don't get the small talk the English style. I had a lesson yesterday and they almost looked bored when I was trying to explain to them why discussing commuting could be interesting;(.

English speaking people (generalization) seem to enjoy the easy breezy convo, while Poles find it phoney.

Poles don't get that listening is a skill;). Solution? I am working on it;)

I might sound like a grandma, but even when I was younger I would not do THAT;).

I still don't know why I moved to Poland. There are so many countries where there are no bad drivers and kurva boys yelling into my ear obscenities and brushing against me on the train.

Still, that was my highlight of the day. The more I tried to concentrate on the magazine I was reading, lauder I could overhear their "uplifting" conversation. Why do I have to judge people? Why did my parents passed a critical gene over to me?

they are great for meat and anything else. The only problem is cleaning, but the pork chop on cast iron pan will keep its juice in. I cook lots of things with it, I even bake bread in it. Also, it last a long time. I have the cheap version and I love it.

Many countries are both: catholic and liberal, so southern has no point really, however Polish Catholicism has taken a strange form lately and it is far from supporting liberal thoughts, unless they belong to priests;)- he, he, which, on the serious note proves how CC is full of hypocrisy.

I would not call it a revolution, but there are some changes due to travel (joining EU), more money(joining EU) and less isolation from the world(joining EU).

More changes are coming, but at the same time the gap between the liberal and the traditional is widening, which I would like to elaborate on, but perhaps some other time, since I just had breakfast and I am full:).

Palikot should not be underestimated, because he is very intelligent and gathered many Poles, who are tired of the PO and PiS spilt/war. He is capable of changing his skin as it suits him.

I think she is gonna have a hard time to be honest, but she sounds like a sound person and a good fighter. Time will tell. Her gender has nothing to do with how she is going to perform as an MP, why would it?

some people might think that Poland is changing, but I think that there is a long way to go in regards to eg accepting different genders in politics. The are not many women in politics and the last election showed that if they are allowed to got in, they at least have to look good - I still don't understand what the looks have to do with the job performed and I can only guess that those women have womanizing bosses.

Women in Polish politics are either feminist, old and not attractive, or really good looking, so by the looks of it we seem to have a whole spectrum, but I still don't understand why they are not judged on their merit, but instead on their looks or sexual preference. No wonder regular women are not that interested. They would feel out of place.

That is Polish politics in scope.

All I can see is the really dirty war.

So I can understand why women sit at home and look after the home budget, since kids have to be fed and hubbies need to have a new car and an ironed shirts to go into the world and look good;).

I still think that Polish politics is too much of who looks good in a physical sense, who has a good image, while those people are still not judged on their merits.

So going back to the subject - Anna is going to be judged on her looks, not on her merit by people like Grzegorz, who is young and really out of this world in that regard.

wants to or already many step have been taken in order to prepare the company to be privatized? I did a lil research on the net and I came to conclusion that it is just a matter of time and they have been accepting bids since May 2011, so it is not news anymore. The state of PKP has a lot to desire, therefore either sell it or improve it. I know that so far it has been managed by incompetent people.

However, on the personal level I am not really that interested anymore since I will not use PKP anymore:)

unfortunately YES. Those two clips illustrate the state of some institutions in Poland and I don't mean Lis or Durczok- they are professionals who work with ............
