Ok thanks Henry You shouldnt be giving away Polish medals like that they`ll probebly be worth hundreds in 15 years. Edit:Oh and the picture of your grandfather is great!
Thanks - my dziadek was a good man. Really, if you want the medals - e-mail your address and I will drop them off in the mail to you. I got them for nothing, and I have what I need.
I was just googling to see if I could fine when and where the bayonet I have came from. The first one in this picture looks similar?, what do you think ?.
Or maybe German WWII K98 Bayonet - Wooden grip?
WWII German Army Mauser Rifle.
The little ball thing at the end looks similar. Probably German from WWII by the looks of it? I don't really care just curious.
Yeah i think your bayonet is the kar 98. The fist picture scares me and reminds me of a story where germans killed kids for blood to give to there wounded officers and after just threw the kids in a pit =[
Yeah, I know it is a bit nasty. All I can promise is that it will never harm anyone. I will probably give it to a museum or something, that is if they want it. I mean what the heck am I gona do with the thing. Ah sure, I was just curious when this thread came up, I had forgotten about the thing before this.
But i think you should still keep them. Sory but i just feel like sharing this with everybody i was reading one of the Colonels articles and it turns out that my Great Grandfather Wojcieh Kłos is a recipient of the virtuti militari! But i still need to claryfy if its him
Here is a picture of my Grandfather's WW1 and PSW medals framed.
H
OK... I did. The file is too big to post here - dang shame, as I think it came out nice, ehh, PolskaMan? It cost about 150 USD to get done, but it is a nice heirloom now.
Wroclaw, just for clarification (and thanks for covering my back) the medals I am offering have no value to me, not family related, etc. So if anyone wants them, please take them off my hands, as I do not collect medals and they are just taking up space. I will trade for Polish money, paper money, any type. Your option.
One of the pieces of my very small collection is the one I'm most proud of; my grandfather's military record book from the time of his service in the Polish-Russo war. He served in an artillery unit during this war. It's in rough condition with some missing pages, but I have carefully scanned it to my computer to avoid handling it for translation purposes. My father is going to find someone who can preserve it to keep it from deteriorating.
=[ its to late to remove but i think nothing will happend, Those are really beutiful medals.I just realized that my GreatGrand Father was awarded the Virtuti militari and im so proud of him.But the down fall is i just found out that my GreatGrandfather on my mothers side might of been a victim to Katyn.Baterja welcome to the forum the military book record is a great piece of history,Is that all you have?
In terms of Polish militaria, the record book is all I have. I do have a photo of my Granddad in cavalry uniform from WWI. I'm not sure which uniform it is, my dad thinks that he fought with Germany on the Eastern Front against the Russians.
I also have scans of his and my Grandmother's birth certificates. Since they were Roman Catholic these are written in Latin. They are in pretty good shape for being over 100 years old.
Not sure if this counts but I have a Polish Home Army (Armia Krajowa or AK) cap from the Warsaw Rising 1944. It is adapted from a German railway man's cap and was discovered in a cellar in the Srodmiescie district of Warsaw and most likely belonged to a soldier from IV Battle Group 'GURT' Armia Krajowa.
I collect mainly period photos of Nazi occupied Warsaw (some of which are on: Polandww2.com), but also have a large collection of Polish WWII medals, badges and insignia.
I have been collecting for many years. My long dead father was 'tanker' in Pulk 4 Pancerny 'Skorpion' 2 Warszawska Dywizja Pancerna (4th Armoured Regiment 'Skorpion' of the 2nd Warsaw Armoured Division).
This is a photo of him outside "Skorpion's" post-war base at Potenza Picena in Province of Macerata, Marche, Italy.
Heres a picture of my great grandfathers 20 year service medal he had more but probebly hid them some where during the war,Sorry if the pic is bad i quickly just took a picture of it with my webcam.
Polska man! Emil, I recieved the bills yesterday, quite beaufitul, thank you! I still need to get to the post office and drop those medals in the mail. Sorry for the delay, brother.
Very interesting thread. My grandfather used to have quite a lot of WWI and II stuff, he grew up in Poland but served in US Army during WWII (he was born in US while his parents visited Pennsylvania). When he passed, unfortunately, my grandmother desired to be the "only antique in the house" and threw out countless things that today no doubt would bring collectors running.
Bummer. Well, I'll sit back again and read. Kind of surprised I can access this site out here (I'm in Iraq and most stuff is blocked for us out here)
Incidentally I've heard somewhere that the Mauser K98's made in Radom are considered to be some of the higher quality versions of the rifles made, license or no.
Col. Wesolowski probably has the ribbon if you want to replace it... send him an email... describe the medal and let him know you need the ribbon... he'll charge ~12 USD.
