Lt. John Ward - a Pommy hero of the Poland's AK

I've been interested about this chap after reading the brief anecdote on him in Rising 44, and after DTaylor started a cool thread about the Poms who helped the Poles in the C19, I thought I'd add Lt. John Ward as a hero worthy of mention.

His tale is an extraordinary one, and his missives to his superiors in Britain during the agony of the Rising are harrowing and emotional. They can be found in the Warsawuprising website.

RIP Pan Ward and thank you for trying your darndest. Are any of our native Polish members aware of any memorial to him in Warsaw or Poland?

I don't know about our 'native Polish members', but at least one of the others is. There's a monument to him on Nowy Swiat with a text telling some of his story. It is on the wall of the building he was based in.

Thats the Red Runs the Vistula fella you are thinking about,and he was a Brit who after the war moved to New Zealand.
Quite a few non Poles found themselves working for or actualy members of Polish underground groups. Many were escaped POWs from the camps built in Poland/old Germany.

If I remember rightly during the Uprising Slovakians made up the largest national group.

I remember going in a park somewhere in Warsaw (Can't remember where) and I saw a memorial for the allied pilots that died during the Warsaw uprising

It's in Park Skaryszewski, near the lake. The pilots were dropping supplies but were shot down by the Germans.
