This might be interesting,

A group of Italian filmmakers is currently touring southern Poland in search for location sites for an international project of RAI Television, provisionally entitled The Battle of Vienna.

I heard some rumors that Mel Gibson maybe would play the polish king Jan Sobieski.

Btw how come that the poles wont make the movie? to poor? or doesn't the polish audience like polish history films?

Merged thread:
Director Skolimowski to play Sobieski in Renzo Martinelli The Battle of Vienna

The famous Polish film-maker Jerzy Skolimowski is to appear as Polish King Jan III Sobieski in a historical blockbuster by the Italian director Renzo Martinelli.

Entitled The Battle of Vienna, the film focuses on what historians describe as one of the greatest military successes in Polish history - the relief of the siege of Vienna in 1683 in which the Polish ruler led an army of 70,000 troops against 100,000 Turks. The victory was crucial for halting the advance of the troops of the Ottoman Empire into Christian Europe.

Harvey Keitel is too short and too thin to play Jan Sobieski.

I heard some rumors that Mel Gibson maybe would play the polish king Jan Sobieski.

Sadly both false and old, those rumors were born with the fake project "Victoria".

Some of them are very good movies too!

They should get Gerard Depardieau to play Jan Sobieski. He is fat and a great actor. They should also get Leelee Sobieski to be in the movie as she is one of Jan's descendants.

Harvey Keitel is to portray King Jan Sobieski.

His parents were Jewish immigrants from Poland and Romania.

Depardieau.

King Sobieski's nose was not that big.

I bet Polish film industry is involved somehow just like with the popes movies we sometimes allow others to pick up our history and do movies doing it as an european production under the Italians is a better financial idea's plus they're bound to make it interested however the Battle of Vienna isn't as that much Polish history than european it had very little impact in our countries politics we often do movies about significant events and for us Poles the Battle of Vienna wasn't significant besides we saved a country that invaded us later

we saved a country that invaded us later

I wonder if this film will foreshadow Austria's horrible ingratitude at all. What scum the Habsburgs truly were! This film may be used to increase Islamophobia but the sad truth is that Poland "saved Europe" only to have her fellow Christians destroy her a few decades later.

Its got better, Austrians to this day actually believe its their emperor and his soldiers that saved the day, Poles figure in their history books as some auxillary unit to the combined austrian/prussian/saxon relief force.

On my keyboard, the comma is directly to the right of the "M" key.
