Point is that Lwow should belong to Poland!

Well said

Lwow is Poland and Poland is Lwow one day Poland will regain what was taken from it whether it be by force or not.

European borders will never change because they were formed by Stalin's will.Only a person with power bigger than Stalin can change them.(only exception is Kosovo but we will see how it ends).

Ok we need to find that person then. ;)

...not.

Well said!

Or maybe I should support you? Because a thrashed, greedy Poland would have no power anymore to stop Germany to get back their eastern lands...okay...please go on! :)

PS: Keep that in mind. Don't think for a minute that dreams of "Greater (insert country of choice)" will get unpunished! Ask Germany. Ask Serbia...

BB you can come and try if you want ;)

Ask Germany.

Germany failed because they got greedy and took land which they had no right to. Poland taking Lwow is not the same.

Not now...no reason...but the moment you start anything...heh:)

Yeah we should had stopped after France and keep what we already had...darn Russia! :(

;)

Poland taking Lwow is not the same.

Facts are the same...Lwow is full of Ukrainians now, as Breslau is full of Poles now.
As I said before, there are facts you can not change (reasonable that is).

BB, no reason to party separately then :) Swedes will be fishing them in the Baltic like herring.
*opens a can of nicely marinated Polish herrings and puts them on potato puree. BB, you are always welcome for a delicious dinner :) There will be some Danzig shnitzel and famous Peremyshel pea soup on menu. I could never refuse such warm invitation our neighbor constantly expresses.*

You went a little overboard calling Poland unstable and very overboard calling Russia stable.

That's because delphiandomine likes Russians more then he likes Poles.

Just look at his post #14 for example. He gets very defensive about any criticisms about Russians while he has no problem labeling Poland and Poles in a negative way.

I registered just to add my 2c to this discussion. I live in Przemyśl so Lviv's the nearest big city from here and I've been there many times. During the last few years the amount of renovation work there is unbelievable. Compared to how it was in 2005 it's a different city. Yes, under the Soviets the place was allowed to deteriorate, but so were other many other cities. Never forget that the city is near the border and after World War two the authorities were loathe to invest in potential regional hotspot - that Lviv is also the centre of the Ukrainian nationalist movement was another incentive for the Soviets to avoid any investment.

Sometimes the Poles view the situation with blinkers. Przemyśl, which is architecturally and culturally very similar to Lviv, was also allowed to rot for the best part of seventy years while all investment was funnelled into Rzeszów. Much of Przemyśl is still ruinous, there's an enormous gap in the old town where the Jewish Ghetto stood that has yet to be rebuilt, many of the streets are potholed and lacking cobbles or asphalt and unemployment is still sky high. The city is only now slowly returning life, as will Lviv eventually. It's a large city and those old buildings require a lot of time and money to restore - we're not talking about glueing Styrofoam cladding onto a few commie blocks here, you needed skilled labourers and plenty of cash and Ukraine doesn't have the advantage of sucking hundreds of millions of euros out of the EU kitty.

And Lviv is not a Polish city, hasn't been for a long time - Is New York still Dutch? Is Sydney still British? Times change, borders change and we have to live with it whether we like it or not.

WOW Thats debatable ....

Is New York still Dutch? Is Sydney still British? Times change, borders change and we have to live with it whether we like it or not.

Easy for you to say , you know what that say about advices ?
However, you maybe be right somewhat Texas and California gradually become Mexican again !

(@Lwów should belong to Poland@)

It's a good thing that Ukrainians are taking care of Lwów. It means that it's in good hands now.

Times change, borders change and we have to live with it whether we like it or not.

Sounds sensible.

@Lwów should belong to Poland@

No, it should NOT belong to Poland. You don't want to mess with borders in our
region, Iron. It would be like opening Pandora's Box and Poland would not necessarily
end up in a better position after the changes of borders.

Germany and both Poland and Germany dont have the population to effectively settle these regions

I bet if they had a chance to get this land back, they would quickly find enough people wanting to settle down in those regions. Open employment for many people in restoring this area to what it once used to be.

If Poland and germany would have to pay for it, how much would those areas cost?

I don`t want to buy Lvov. Why should I need an Ukrainian city? Because it had Polish origin, culture etc? That is the past which have already passed.....

What, you think people would want to live in a very poor region of Europe, where the majority of locals would be devastated at losing their country and where they would be hostile to Poland's government, possibly along with mass civil disobedience and an infrastructure that is really, really poor?

Lviv still doesn't have 24/7 running water in the centre!
guesswho  4 | 1272
3 Oct 2010 /  #140
Supposedly, there are still many Poles in Lwow, right? If so, it shouldn't be really that hostile, don't you think?
As far as the poverty in this region, it's exactly what I said above, it would be a great chance for thousands of unemployed people to find a job there while restoring it.

Nothing like a majority.

You gonna pay for that?

You gonna pay for that?

Your country gains on territory and it's an investment. At first you guys pay for it so one day this part of your country will be able to help you when you need it. Just look at the Germans, the invested billions of euros in reunification and slowly but surely it will pay off one day. I bet, they would gladly spend even more money if they had a chance to get East Prussia and Lower Silesia back from you guys. Besides, it's not only about money, it's a matter of your national pride and identity. If you guys believe that Lwow is or should be Polish then you have to carry the financial consequences too and if you're not ready to do it, you're not supposed to even mention that this territory is or ever should be Polish again.

ust look at the Germans, the invested billions of euros in reunification

Poland would love to be able to spend billions of Euros on regeneration, but there are projects (like a decent motorway network) that would come first. And the majority of Lwow residents are quite happy with Lwow remaining in their own country.

Also, Poland regaining their old Eastern territories would open the door to Germany claiming their old Eastern territories too - and Poland would probably rather keep that than gain Lwow.

I guess, it's a choice you guys are making then. I wonder how the majority of Poles is thinking about it.

People tell me that they're sentimental about Lwow and practical about Szczecin etc. They lost countryside and gained industrial regions.

They lost countryside and gained industrial regions.

As if manufactures existed today, production moved to China and India !

To whoever is in charge of this thread today,

I wonder why you guys are moving many good comments to the random but allow an obvious fool, who doesn't bring anything valuable to this thread, to run his mouth constantly?

Just in case you have a problem to spot him, I'm talking about Mr. Moron-ironside.
