Matowy, I remember the American terrorist act was in 2001, but can you remind me when was the British terrorist act.

Can you also find The Wall Street Journal 's articles where they refer to it as such? Thank you.

Nazism is dead

It still alive, across Europe, and in the USA too.

Maybe instead of worrying about the camp being called Polish or German, the people would write that many Polish people died there, all sorts, not only worshippers of the Jewish faith.

you shouldn't waste your time talking to such people.

Conversations come up and besides, what's wrong with telling ignorant people the truth?

It would take a massive effort of being willfully ignorant to not know anything about the largest war the world has ever seen.

Your faith in the U.S. educational system is unwarranted. Academia is run by liberals who don't teach - they preach.

People like that need a lot more than some phrase changes to get some sense knocked into them.

Words are very important. They magnify or diminish a meaning, sometimes to the point of changing it. That's why advertising works.

Poles have been the worst at PR.

There are many hard thinkers in Poland, concentration is important. However, if Komorowski gets in, I think a concentration camp will seem like a good idea.

I am afraid that I will not read carefully all thread, but I just wanted to realise to some people that three questions marks at the end of the question of the thread are strange.

There are no concentration camps in Poland. In Poland were concentration camps.
I do not have a clue who invented a title but a verb in it could be useful for some native English readers.

Since location of these camps is Poland, nobody can forbid using terms "Poland's concentration camps" unless it refers to other features than location. It is a problem, but a very small in comparison with other events that are going on. It looks whole campaign against "Poland's concetration camps" it is just a trap for Poles.

Auschwitz can hardly be called "Polish". I remember an American tv program "Larry King Live". In the end Larry King said: "A cross must disappear from Aschwitz". Soon after there was no cross in Aschwitz. That is why i think that Poles, who run Aschwitz, are very subservient to foreigners. For a while Auschwitz was a good business for Poles, since people from around the world were coming. This business was removed by force - commercial activity is not allowed around Auschwitz. The same way Polish church was removed from Auschwitz. These are big problems, not few quotes that nobody cares about.

Good idea. As far as the title of this thread.

"Protest v 'Polish concentration camps'

If "v" stands for versus than I think it'd have been better to say "Protest against..."

Just my take on it.

Jewish society's have been very active over the last 60 years in making sure that people do not forget history. The jews publicize there own persecution in the camps, it is not up to them to make people aware their were others victims in the camps. So it is on the heads of Catholic or Polish foundations to step up to the plate and remember their own victims of the camps, and make sure that people don't ever forget.

Er, if you want to talk about percentage of population killed during the holocaust, the Romani people put Jews well and truly into the shade. Sadly the number of memoirials to those people is hugely lacking in Poland and the rest of central & eastern Europe. I mean, the holocaust of europe's Romani people was so extreme that some languages became extinct due to it!

It's not a competition, Harry. No matter how much you'd wish it to be.

And there's the problem with the holocaust: what it should have been was a race; a race to wipe out the creatures which ended up siring the mistakes that sired you. I always said that Hitler was an under-achiever.

Hi, this is Harry. I can’t come to have an intelligent discourse right now because I'm brain-damaged psychopath … but if you leave your name and number, I will get back to you as soon as I come up with further verbal venom that proves my lack of any ability to look at facts and draw my own conclusions. Thanks. BEEP……………….

Of course, it matters who were running camps and it matters were it was. The problem is that the statement "Poland's concentration camps" does not deny that Germans were running these camps. The purpose Poles insisted to fight with this statement is very simple. They show themselves as good guys fighting with bad guys and they do not insult anybody. If they were fighting, for example, for a cross in Auschwitz, they would have many enemies. I hate such behavior.

Not so. Between 220,000 to 1,500,000 Roma and Sinti victims perished during the Porajmos -- compare this to approximately 6,000,000 Jews. At least get it right, loser.

Anyway, on another note, my boyfriend was telling me about the way that Poland's actions during the war are viewed (he's a Polish Jew), and I am literally astonished. I cannot believe that there is such "guilt by association". My boyfriend thinks it's crazy too. I saw someone on this thread saying that "American kids were brainwashed to believe that the Poles were as bad as the Nazis" -- this is appalling! As a Brit, I've always thought of the Poles as our brothers-in-arms; we fought beside them against the greatest evil history has ever known, while their country was overrun and they were oppressed by Nazi pigs...

Furthermore, my boyfriend also told me that the Polish resistance saved more Jewish lives than any other allied organization or government -- why isn't that ever mentioned anywhere? Seriously, this is terrible, and I'm really sorry that Poland's got this reputation.

During this war, some people would turn to extremes to survive.

I totally agree. But that in no way makes a person as bad as the Nazis!

What? I'm defending Poland. I'm saying Poles during the war were nothing like the Nazis, nowhere near, and should never be considered as such. The Poles were our allies. They were on the good side.

Britain may have a very bloody imperial history, but please, we're not as bad as the Nazis!

You were worse....wanna count corpses?
How do you think the British empire came to rule half of the world once? Peacefully?
And how do you think the enslaving and exploitation of whole countries worked?
The natives just smiled and nodded?

monbiot.com/archives/2005/12/27/how-britain-denies-its-holocausts

...
In his book Late Victorian Holocausts, published in 2001, Mike Davis tells the story of the famines which killed between 12 and 29 million Indians(1). These people were, he demonstrates, murdered by British state policy.
...
Within the labour camps, the workers were given less food than the inmates of Buchenwald. In 1877, monthly mortality in the camps equated to an annual death rate of 94%.

That happened during the 50's...probably the same soldiers fighting for the "freedom of the western civilization" against the mean Nazi pigs shortly before...now shove your self-righteousness where the sun doesn't shine!

BB is German and loves the nazi's ;)

...and Currywurst! ;)

But I get pimples if someone like you tries to sell me his moral horse but having the same dirty hands as everybody else!

It's not that I disagree with your logic, because I do, but I just really wanted to add that none of *our* hands are actually *that* dirty.

In the case of Holland lack of means only!
Lots of Dutchies were proud members of the Waffen-SS...being great little Nazis.

But even so:

That's not what I meant. I meant to say none of us (meaning we, today, now, us, our generation, the people who discuss this topic.) actively have had a hand in these genocides which occurred in the past.

But even so:

Thanks for the history lesson, but I'm aware of our history. (which has been pretty violent and pretty brutal for such a small country.)

And British murders are of course cool, Nazi murders not.

No one is ever talking about the cruelty of the "winners", once you lose, you'll be always blamed for everything anyway. Also, each country teaches different history and so seeing, we're all just wasting time here (brotlose Kunst).
