Poland's 20th century and modern national heroes?

Who were the most important, altruistic, patriotic, influential and symbolic persons of Poland during the 20th century for modern Poland?

For example;
Witold Pilecki

I am mainly looking for martyrs during the resistance, but anyone who would be considered an outstanding national hero today will be appreciated.

Thank you.

General Fieldorf aka "Nile"

General Leopold Okulicki aka "Bear cub"

There are quite a few 'heroes' who arose as a consequence of the Warsaw Rising in 1944. I suppose both of the above could be considered martyrs.

Rising '44 by N Davies has quite an excellent spread as to Polish heroes of the Rising. One worth mentioning and reported anecdotally in that book was the Polish priest who accompanied orphaned Polish children in their train ride to the concentration camp, singing to them as they walked up the gang plank to calm them down.

My dad told me about a Jewish doctor whose actions were heroic. This Doctor treated AK insurgents but also treated a Wehrmacht officer. My dad saw it when the SS came to take the doctor away to be executed and then the Wehrmacht officer's soldiers put a stop to that by forcing the SS away after a tense stand off. I suppose these Wehrmacht soldiers could be considered heroes too.

Jarosłąw Kaczyński. He possesses all these features:the most important, altruistic, patriotic, influential and symbolic

Kaczyński.

You are joking, right? Him, who had the rest of the Solidarity shipyard delegation photoshopped into blurred onlookers? Including the person who actually had the charisma.

Do tell us you're on a wind-up.

No, I wasn`t joking. I was dead serious. I simply made a mistake. Errare humanum est.

It is good that you show your human frailty.
