Jan Potocki On Ancient Slavic History.

Count Jan Potocki (1761-1815-) scion of one of Poland’s most prominent families and celebrated author of The Manuscript Found In Saragossa also authored an exegesis on Herodotus’ Scythian book titled Histoire Primitive des Peuples de la Russie avec une Exposition complete de Toutes les Nations, locales, nationales et traditionelles, necessaires a l'intelligence du quatrieme livre d'Herodote. This book has not been translated into English, but given its subject matter and its author’s reputation I am hopeful that it is known in Poland. If anyone here on the forum has read it would you be so kind as to relate some of Potocki’s conclusions contained therein?

Check out Hoene-Wroński's notes on it - worth reading and makes more sense than the original which after all is an interesting but fairly unexceptional travel story, albeit one which reflect's Potocki's religious/mystical weltanschauung. If I remember, Von Hundt also refers to it a couple of times but only in footnotes.

My great grandfather is a Potocki. He immigrated to America on July 22, 1914 under a different name. His father was killed when a building fell I was told. He fled Poland as he didn't want to be murdered for being "royal". My Great-Grandfather had 2 brothers that I am aware of, one older and one younger. He was born 1892 and died 1958. I know his name now, Walter (Ladislaw) Potocky, but not his REAL name. Can you help me?

Count Jan Potocki - new film based on Polish novel

There's a new film out, based largely on 'The manuscript found in Saragossa' by the Polish writer Count Jan Potocki (1761-1815). The film's in Italian (available with English subtitles) and is very worth watching. The novel it's based on is good too.

Potocki, incidentally, was the first person in Poland to fly.

why bother when there is a Polish masterpiece movie adaptation of the book by Wojciech Hass

Equally, why not? This other film was back in the mid-60s.

Anyway, the latest film (currently showing at the festival in Venice) isn't a direct adaptation, and is very very good.
