Your favourite Polish Patriotic films

There are loads of Polish films that are not political and not comedies or entertainment stuff. On top of my head 'Pora umierać', 'Jasminium', 'Zaklete rewiry'

As for patriotic films, there are just certain scenes that I find moving like the Battle of Grunwald in Teutonic Knights.

Would you consider "Katyn" a patriotic film?

I loved Ogniem I mieczem.

Also there's a youtube video about the soviet invasion of Poland - about 40 or so mins long so not like a feature length film but still a great movie imo

I saw that one years ago. Yes, quite a powerful epic-type film.

Yes, it shows Polish martyrology at the hands of our second worst enemies after Nazi Germans.

I saw "Man of Iron" (Mezczyzna zelazy) many years ago. Can't for the life of me recall either the actors or the even the director (Wajda??).

Thought it was a bit heavy handed myself. Any thoughts from our members?

Wajda??

Yes, Wajda.

Also patriotic as it shows the birth of Solidarity movement in 1980. It got the main prize at Cannes. But that was a political decision. not artistic, cause technically the film wanst` a masterpiece. Actors - as usual with Wajda, the best.

Aha, Człowiek z Żelaza.

a polite note to the mods.... please this comment to the polish patriotic movie thread where it better belongs

Człowiek z żelaza

Thought it was a bit heavy handed myself.

In purely cinematic terms not as good as Człowiek z marmuru and a bit heavy handed at times (the best parts are the previously unreleased scenes from Człowiek z marmuru) but in social terms it was a stunningly brave movie - an artist taking on a genuinely repressive government and telling a story that officially couldn't exist.

I can't quibble about it as a movie - it's an invaluable work of art on the movement that would ultimately bring the whole filthy communist system down.

Łyżko, have you seen this film: Birth Certificate from 1961? It consists of 3 seperate stories and the last one is about a Jewish girl who looks for a safe place after the ghetto liquidation.

Now with English subtitles. from 57.30

Fucha - Side job. from 1983, made by the last year student of director school. It is only 60 minutes long.

I must say it has been my fav patriotic film for a year or two. I watch it once or twice a month, coz I love the acting and the plot, too.

Two alcoholic tomb masons from Warsaw are sent to the countryside to build a tomb. They get involved into doing a side job in mysterious circumstances. .

Once it was available on youtube. Now only a fragment:
at 4.15 there is an inscription on the tomb, not translated in subtitles: Nothing for myself, Everything for Motherland.

Fully available on this site but only Polish.

I almost forgot - the music score is also very appealing.
