The Battle of Grunwald (or 1st Battle of Tannenberg) took place on July 15, 1410 with the Kingdom of Poland and the Grand Duchy of Lithuania ranged against the Knights of the Teutonic Order. It was the decisive engagement in the Polish-Lithuanian-Teutonic War (1409-1411) and one of the greatest battles of medieval Europe.
The battle saw the Monastic State of the Teutonic Knights decisively defeated - and the order never recovered its former power.
The few eyewitness accounts are contradictory. It took place near several smaller villages, and different names in various languages are attributed to it.

The fact is that the situation form other paintings appeared as well. What means Russians were on the knees, and it is historical fact which appear in books. The fact is that only Poles have beaten you, in way you accepted this fact. Your tsar (beging in Cracow for help) converted in to Catholic religion and was our puppet. as to movies about our grate victories, it is more probable that they will make movie about Jan III Sobieski smashing Ottoman Empire ... maybe M Gibson will do it ... but now it is only rumor

Sure Yes! It hurts us, but Russians were beaten for many times, not only from poland, but from tatars, swedes, french, germans, jupanees abd so on. But Roman empire, for example, was not so invincible, as it is described in textbooks.
My brothers, it always especialy hurts when bother harm/beat brother... from the micro level (from angle of one single family) to the macro level (when we speak about kin people/nations).
What does it matter who is Catholic, who is Protestant or Orthodox, etc. It is even good to us that we can expirience different religious approach thru expiriance of our kin nations.

It depends from the fact which Roman Empire do you mean? If it is Western part, than it fell long before Russia, if it is East Roman Empire (Byzantin or Romeion Empire), than Russia had long term relation with it, and may be considered as a true successor of it and therefore of all Roman Empire. This fact was well expressed during 15 cent in wellknown phrase "Moscow is a third Rome, two Romes fell (Rome itself and Constantinopol) but third stands and will stand forever"

after the Grunwald we had several wars against Teutonic order in XV century and one in the XVI c ( that lead to the Prussian Homage. Germans call it the greatest disgrace in their history en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prussian_Homage and after that until uprisings during the partition of Poland we didn't fight against Germans. So there's nothing to laught at.

Dude, that was a complete twist in history. Insolent bastards who had seen themselves superior to Polish 'peasants' got a huge beating. History of Europe took new turn on that day, and THAT'S a LOL :))
because it's great part of European history. This year I've read a great book about hundred years' war. it was long long time ago but this era is still fascinating. don't tell me that you don't have a football game you love to call to your mind and still feel the same excitement. some ppl have the same with history.
Definitely feared, especially by civilians but in this case the army constituted only about 50% Germans, the remainder where Poles, Hungarians, Austrians and so called guests, chiefly French.
Sadly to bash a pro-polish topic, Grunwald was not the biggest battle, not even close, there's battles like Crecy or Agincourt where French tended to field effing huge armies, then there's battles with Saladin and so on and so forth.
geez tornado, why are you in such a hurry to p*ss on their parade? Yeah the people of today had nothing to do with what went on then but you gotta admit the face of europe today might well be much worse for modern day Poles had it not been for that victory by their ancestors.
No not really, Teutonic Order even victorious could not and did not want to do bad stuff to Poland, in fact they wanted Poland to become a prominent element of the order since that'd ensure the Orders status as a great power on a global scale ( i'm talking medieval global scale ).
The order while cruel and pretty nasty was in itself fairly international, a few of the Grand Masters werent even german, they did however had nasty plans for Ruthenia and Lithuania.
