I'm wondering if I still have any relatives in Poland. My grandmother was Kamillia Tuzinowska from Gruta area. Her mother was Anastazia Malinowska, and her mother was Barbara Susmarski and her parents were Joannes Szmarski and Francisca Rutkowska of Briesen, Marienwerder, West

Preussen, Prussia. (Gruta was once Prussia). Kamillia came to the US as a very young woman with her sister Jadwiga.

If anyone has any information on these families from that area, please contact me. Thank you very much.

My grandfather came from the Radom area... a farm. He had many brothers. I'm looking to find if any of them are still alive. The father of the family was Jozef Wojtowicz and one son was named Jozef. The brothers that came to America were Thomas, John, and Walter.

Thank you very much.

your request is pretty big, you want information and give very little.

One thing to remember is that the only people that know your family is your family.

I also want to point out you left out dates. is your grandfather still alive? any uncles still alive?

have you spoken with extended family here in the states?

SUSMARSKI: probably derived from German adj. süß (sweet – nice, pleasant, mild) or Polonised equivalent of German/Yiddish surname Süßmann.

SZMARSKI: possibly patronymic for son of someone nicknamed Smarz (variant of smardz - morel mushroom)

WÓJTOWICZ: patronymic for son of the wójt (village mayor)

TUZINOWSKI: from tuzin (dozen)

MALINOWSKI: topo nick from Malinowo (Raspberryville)

RUTKOWSKI: topo nick from Rutków or Rutkowo (Rueville).

The area of Lomza/Elk was where my grandmother came from. Her name was Kamillia or Camillia Tuzinowska. Her mother was Anastasi Malinowska and father was Francezak Tuzinowski. She had a sister Jadwiga. There were probably more siblings but as far as I know Kamillia and Jadwiga were the only ones to come to USA.

Any information greatly appreciated.

TUZINOWSKI: root-word tuzin (dozen); probably originated as a toponymic tag from a locality called Tuzinów or Tuzinowo. There are about 100 Tuzinowskis in Poland of which around a third live in the country's NE corner in the Suwałki area (north of £omża) along the Lithuanian border.

SMO£EK: probably from smoła (pitch, tar); possible occupational nick for tar-maker (smolarz) or for an unkempt, soot-streaked person (osmołony).
