The Celtic admixture is unmistakable.

Celtic admixture in whom? Slavs or Sarmatians?

Merely take a gander at your average Cracovian. Poland has heavy Celtic admixture.

I´m proud to be a Thüringer. The Turingii are one of the oldest germanic tribes. 8)

Don't be proud of yourself, better wait when other people will be proud of you.

Nothing wrong with self-pride, merely self PRAISE might be questionable, eh Weimarer?:-) "Eigenlob stnkt.aber fremdes Lob klingt!" - "Don't blow your horn, let others blow it for you", something to that effect.

To be sure, the Turingii, along with the Suebii, are indeed among the oldest of the extant Germanic tribes.

Russians and Belorussians are slavonised east Balts, whom may have mixed with Finns earlier. Slavonised from early middle ages onwards, just as Prussians and Vends were Germanised gradually.

viking/norse blood added in from 800's AD

The Letts, Livonians, and the Lithuanians though, were not.

Actually, the Livonians were originally of Germanic origin, I believe.

Their is no need for resurgence of `paganism' in Europe.

There is a ``secular'' paganism in Europe. Protestantism and lapsed Catholics have given way to.

It could be interesting not from religious, but from purely cultural (revival of ancient traditions).

Probably. I would say self-respect is normal, self-pride/praise is a bit strange.

Maybe no need but it's happening anyhow....re-discovering our true european roots as the imported religion(s) are leaving the lands and creating a void waiting to be filled...

Supported in a big way by the upcoming culture clash between the natives of Europe and the incoming immigrants. A fight which is taking up pace with the rise of identity populist movements.

An interesting mix I admit!

Ancestors of 90% Western Europeans came in Western Europe 2.500 years ago from territory of modern Ukraine and South-Eastern Russia. Quite possibly there could be some common roots of pagan traditions.

bratwurst boy,

it's good to be proud of your country and origins but we don't need to look to Europe's past paganism only.

For example, Catholic faith is a big part of Polish identity and actually if you took that away, Poland as an identity would not exist. The Polish kingdom was forged by acceptance of the Catholic faith from Rome and not from the Germans who used Christianity to drang nach osten for land grabs instead!!

As for those Muslims, they have nothing. Islam is a failure and not even a religion but a political movement based on territorial expansion and imperial rule.

The Muslims are like the Huns, brainless. They might conquer by force but they can't hold on to it for long. They ahave no intelligence.

And actually it was the Czechs I believe who introduced Christianity to the Poles

Has there been any attepts of re-surging paganism in Lower Saxony lately? The pagan Saxons inhabiting Lower Saxony in the Middle Ages remained pagans long after the rest of Germany become Christian and - as far as I can remember - Charlemagne ordered to kill a great number of Saxons after a battle in the second half of the 8th century in the course of long-lasting wars between the christenized Franks and pagan Saxons.

Folks have been arguing, roughly ever since the early fifties, that the Germans never truly Christianized, because they always remained proud pagans at heart.
Hence the relatively easy, untrammeled rise of Hitler; once all Judeo-Christian morality is removed from the game, rules of traditional convention are deemed
fit to be broken at the Strong Man's whim, fair play, conscience along with human soul are then considered laughable commodities, easily dispensable in the Fuehrer's brave new Thousand Year Reich, no surprise that what happened was ALLOWED to happen. Hell, being pagan's a lot more "fun" than being a Christian. Being a subject is far more expedient than being a democrat where a citizen must take commitment and responsibility for himself and those around him.

Yepski, ol' Professor Plessner was right all along!

What about fertility rates? At least they don't need to import immigrants.

Klasse nicht Masse, Vlad!

It's not the mere quantity, but the quality of the offspring that makes all the difference:-) A race of mental defectives owing to poor early nutritions etc ad nauseum helps nobody, particularly an already overtaxed medical and school system.

Probably part of issue here is that Christianity haven't originated in Europe and was imported from Middle East. And it came to the place where native religions were well developed already. It took lot of efforts and time to eradicate paganism in Eastern Slavic lands, for example.

Where are Ancient Greeks now? Surely they were not as numerous as Chinese.

Definitely! :)

Hence the relatively easy, untrammeled rise of Hitler;

The Jew hate was definitely a Christian thing....not to mention that the Church did not put up much resistance against the rise of the Nazis, quite the contrary...till up to the WWII pope in Rome. Did you remember him helping?

The number of Jews killed by Pagans because of some anti-semitism is Zero!

Has there been any attepts of re-surging paganism in Lower Saxony lately?

There are no official statistics about it...there is no party and no leader to be followed and observed....but the interest is rising every year...most meet at first in internet fora and inform themselves, make contacts, building a network...its a slow but steady going.

For example, Catholic faith is a big part of Polish identity and actually if you took that away, Poland as an identity would not exist.

We should build a european identity, there is place for everyone in there...its our continent, its our heritage!
