In the endless search to learn more about my family history, I have obtained more information and am curious to know if anyone knows anything about a Helen Lygas. Helen was my great grandmother's, Mary Rucinski (Szymanski), stepsister. I have just found out about her from my grandfather and have yet to obtain her birth or death date or anything other informaiton. If anyone can possibly help me I would be very, very grateful!! Thank you :)
Searching for Helen Lygas / Rucinski & Szymanski
Maby someone knows. I live in Poland, plz contact me
This is an old post but I am also searching for the Szymanski surname. My great-grandmother was Mary Szymanski, her father was either Piotr or Boleslaw Szymanski and her mother was Apolonia Gawronski. Mary's marriage license lists her father has Piotr Szymanski but her death certificate lists him as Boleslaw Szymanski.

I've been researching my maternal grandfathers side of the family and looking for any information on the Rucinski and Szymanski surnames.
What I know:
Jan Rucinski born 1892 in Poland
Parents were Michael Rucinski & Mary Grysinski
Brother Peter Born 1896
Immigrated to US in 1910 for the first time with brother Peter.
Returned to Poland in 1921 to get married
Married Mary Szymanski in 1921 in Iwaniska, Poland
Returned to US in 1923
Mary Szymanski born 1901 in Poland
Parents were Peter Syzmanski & Apolonia Gawronski
Possible brother Peter - no family history of a brother but we recently found a piece of paper from Mary's son (my great uncle) stating Mary had a brother
Possible half sister Helen Lygos or Lygas. My grandfather remembers hearing about this woman but we know nothing else about her. We are assuming Helen and Mary had the same mother and different fathers but again, we have no idea.
Immigrated to US only one time in 1925, four years after marrying her husband and two years after her husband already left.
I'm curious if we still have family living in Poland! Any information would be greatly appreciated :)

My Grandparents, (from my mother's side), are Walter & Helen Szymanski, I do believe were born in, & were of Poland .... (but where)?...This I love to know, as well as, do NOT know. They came to this country, & "settled" in Connecticut. I'm am almost sure it was Branford, to be exact. ( I do believe also, they lived on Bunnell St.). They had 3/girls... :-P Their names are: Caroline, Barbara, & Irene). I need as much help as I can get, to find out ANYTHING I can, about where precisely their from, & any other relatives that can be known of...HELP!...&THX.!!!
RUCIŃSKI: root-word rucina (the herb rue); probably arose as a nickname for someone from the village of Rucina
(Rueville, Rueton, &c,)
SZYMAŃSKI: possible patronymic for the son of Szyman (more commonly Szymon) or even more likely -- a toponmyic tag identifying an inhabitant of rthe village of Szymany.

Merged: Rucinski, Szymanski, Palka, Lekki, Klimek, LYGAS - Locating records in Poland
I've been doing a lot of family history research and I am to the point now where all the information I need would have to come from Poland. I've searched my family as far back as I can once they immigrated to the United States and now I don't know where to look. I know that I need to figure out where all of my family came from and I am working on making a list of all the towns but what do I do after that? I don't speak Polish so it is going to be difficult, but not impossible, to contact anyone. Is there a specific site I should be looking at for this type of information? For what it is worth I am looking for the last names of - Rucinski, Szymanski, Palka, Lekki, Klimek, Wrublewski, Gagacki, Czarkowski, Tesko, Kolena, Gryzinski (Grycinski), Gawronski, Koseska, Kolenda. Thanks for the help!

Well I'm Szymanski but this is very popular last name in poland so it can be difficul to find any relatives based on it. Share the towns so maybe then we can help you. I really like to 'dig' in genealogy.

I'm slowing discovering that Szymanski & Rucinski are relatively common so my work might be harder than expected. I know that the Szymanski's & Rucinski's were from Iwaniska (I found that information on a marriage certificate) but I'm having a harder time with the rest of the names. I believe that Palka (my maiden name is actually Palko, it was changed in the early 1900's) is more of a Hungarian name but I am not 100% sure on that one. I'm still working on gathering all the locations from the Ship Manifests and I will let you know when I have more! I appreciate all the help.
Oh, I also know that my great grandmother (Mary/Marjanna) Szymanski had a half sister, Helen Lygos/Lygas who never came to America.
Thanks again!
