Yeah, I'm a Raczkowski too. My parents emigrated to Canada when I was about a year old. They were both sent to German labour camps during the war and after the war was over ,they went to Canada around 1952. They went their separate ways shortly after arriving in Canada. I'm presently, trying to locate my father, Stanislaw Raczkowski who lived in Downsview, Ontario, Canada. in the mid 1970's. He had or has a brother by the name of Kazimierz Raczkowski (both I, believe born in Stanislawow, Poland). Anybody have any information please let me know. My mother and I never had any contact with my father since they split up and I would like to let him know that she passed away several years ago. When she was dying I made her several promises. Promise 1: that I would find her Polish family that she was separated from 65 years ago. Promise 2: that I would try and find my father whom I have not seen since I was about 3 years old. The first promise I kept and found them living in Krosno, Poland. My mother's cremated ashes are now buried in Kopytowa, the village where she was born. The second promise I'm still working on and so I humbly ask for your help!
Jan (born 1 May 1925), Jozef (born 25 July 1897) and Edward Raczkowski (born 27.6.20). Shot by the Germans along with 106 others btwn 11-14/12/1943 on charges of possession of weapons and being part of a forbidden organisation (probably the AK). Held on reprieve but executed in reprisal after the AK blew a train killing many Germans. RIP Edward, Jan and Jozef.
Mieczyslaw Rackowski (born 25 June 1910) was charged with the same offences, held as hostage but publicly executed on 18 November 1943 after a German soldier was wounded. RIP Mieczyslaw.
The second promise I'm still working on and so I humbly ask for your help!
I think it's great you try to keep the promise you made to your mom. I live in the US so I can't help a whole lot but does your parents' marriage license, divorce decree, etc. have your dad's personal number, social security number, etc.? Not sure what the Canadian equivalent is. There are PIs who're fairly inexpensive. In the US a couple hundred dollars will give you 24 hours or so of them searching all kinds of data bases, birth certificates, divorce documents, etc, etc. Maybe that's an option?
Are all of you sure it was Raczkowski, not Rączkowski? Both exist in Poland but have a totally different derivation: rączka=little hand, raczek=small crayfish.
Hi, I'm a Raczkowski. My father was Czesław, b 1917, and my grandfather was Francziszek. My grandfather left my father and my grandmother in Krasnistaw and remarried. I know that my father ended up having a half sister somewhere in Poland but he didn't know her name. I'd love to find her or, more likely, her family. My father had a brother who was executed during WWII. My father was active in the Polish Peasant Party and had quite a history during the war. We came to the US from England in 1950 and I have two living siblings. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
My Name is Andrew Rocky Raczkowski, from Michigan, USA. I would like to stay in touch with as many Raczkowski's as possible, and find the branches in the family tree. If anyone has familial, name and origin info, please post and stay in touch. I speak, read and write polish and am able to converse in several languages if need be.
(To Ewa): My Grandfather's name was Francziszek Raczkowski and he married Joanna Adamski in Poland, either Bydgoszcz or Torun? Was this where your grandfather was from?
I look forward to finding the rest of our extended family. Please feel free to google me and stay in touch at: arraczkowski@gmail.
